Abstract

Mustard is a vegetable commodity that has good commercial value and prospects. Apart from being viewed from the climatological, technical and social economic point of view, it is also very supportive, so that it has the feasibility to be cultivated in Indonesia and this vegetable is a type of vegetable that is favored by all groups of people. Mustard is a vegetable that has many benefits for the body.The stages of this research include sample collection and plant processing, plant identification, manufacture of ethanol extract of bitter mustard leaf, determination of water content, phytochemical screening and determination of total flavonoid content by UV-Visible spectrophotometry.This study aims to determine the total flavonoid content of bitter mustard greens and to determine the characteristics, class of chemical compounds, and total flavonoid value of bitter mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern) extract by UV-VIS spectrophotometry.

Abstract

Noni or (Morinda citrifolia L.) contains active anthraquinone, scaloptin, flavonoid, and adaptogen compounds that have antifungal and antimicrobial effects. Antibacterial chemicals have many negative side effects, and other alternatives are needed as antibacterials, one of which is by using noni. This study aims to analyze bioautography and determine the antibacterial activity of noni leaf ethanol extract against Propionibacterium acne bacteria.

Abstract

Single Cell Protein (PST) is the term used for proteins derived from microbes such as fungi, yeasts and bacteria. One way to deal with the abundance of tofu liquid waste is by using microbiological methods, namely utilizing tofu liquid waste as a substrate for the growth of Bacillus cereus microbial growth for single cell protein production. The purpose of this study was to determine whether tofu liquid waste could produce single cell protein from B. cereus culture and to determine the difference in protein production by adding nutrients to the fermentation medium. The research method used was experimental research, with the independent variables being MFLT1 fermentation medium (Tofu Liquid Waste Fermentation Medium with the addition of KH2PO4 nutrients and sugar) and MFLT2 medium (Tofu Liquid Waste Fermentation Medium with the addition of nutrients KH2PO4; (NH4)2SO4 and sugar); and the length of fermentation on days 0, 2, 4 and 6. While the dependent variables were the analysis of protein content, cell dry weight, glucose content, pH and temperature. The result data in this study were statistically analyzed using the two way Anova method. The results of this study showed that the highest protein content was obtained in MFLT2 medium, namely 0.73% (day 4); cell dry weight 0.253 g; glucose level 1.3339%; pH 3.9 and temperature 29.2oC. Meanwhile, in MFLT1 medium, the highest protein content was 0.46% (4th day); cell dry weight 0.286 g; glucose level 1.3342%; pH 3.9 and temperature 28.8oC. From the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that tofu liquid waste can produce single cell protein from B. cereus culture and there are differences in protein production results with the addition of nutrients, where the protein content in MFLT2 medium is higher than protein content in MFLT1 medium.

Abstract

Penyakit infeksi merupakan salah satu permasalahan kesehatan yang sering terjadi.  Jenis infeksi bisa dipicu oleh bakteri gram postif maupun gram negatif. Salah satu mikroorganisme yang dapat menyebabkan infeksi yaitu Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi senyawa metabolit sekunder dalam ekstrak etanol daun Senggani (Melastoma candidum D.Don) dan mengevaluasi aktivitas antibakterinya terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Jenis penelitian yang dilakuakan adalah penelitian eksperimental. Sampel tumbuhan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah daun senggani (Melastoma candidum D.Don) yang diperoleh dari Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah. Metode pengambilan sampel dengan metode purposive yaitu tanpa membandingkan tumbuhan serupa didaderah lain. Data yang diperoleh dengan pengukuran diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol daun senggani (Melastoma candidum D.Don) dengan metode ekstraksi maserasi dan microwave assisted extraction dari masing-masing konsentrasi dengan 3 kali pengulangan. Data yang diperoleh dianalsis dengan menggunakan uji Oneway Annova. Parameter yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah uji skrining fitokimia, metode ekstraksi maserasi dan microwave assisted extraction dan uji antibakteri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun Senggani yang diperoleh melalui metode maserasi mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan steroid. Ekstrak dari metode MAE juga mengandung senyawa-senyawa tersebut, serta glikosida tambahan. Aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun Senggani terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak dari metode MAE memberikan zona hambat yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan ekstrak dari metode maserasi, menunjukkan efektivitas yang lebih tinggi dalam aktivitas antibakteri.

Abstract

Daun ruku-ruku (Ocimum tenuiflorum L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman obat yang dikenal masyarakat digunakan sebagai bumbu masakan karena aromanya yang dapat mengurangi bau tidak sedap. Berdasarkan kandungan kimianya, daun ruku-ruku banyak mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin dan steroid/triterpenoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun ruku-ruku terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis. Metode penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan variabel bebas yaitu ekstrak etanol daun ruku-ruku dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 20% sedangkan variabel terikatnya adalah aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis. Ekstrak sederhana daun ruku-ruku dibuat dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah Tetrasiklin dan kontrol negatif adalah DMSO. Pengujian yang dilakukan terhadap simplisia daun ruku-ruku meliputi pemeriksaan fitokimia, pemeriksaan makroskopis, pemeriksaan mikroskopis, pemeriksaan kadar air, pemeriksaan nira larut air, pemeriksaan kadar sari larut etanol, pemeriksaan kadar abu dan pemeriksaan kadar abu tidak larut asam. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa daun ruku-ruku (Ocimum tenuiflorum L.) mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin dan streroid/triterpenoid. Hasil penelitian aktivitas antibakteri menunjukkan bahwa daun ruku-ruku dapat digunakan sebagai antibakteri karena mempunyai daya hambat yang kuat pada konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 20% yaitu 8,7 mm, 9,8 mm dan 12,1 mm terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis

Abstract

Matoa memiliki sejarah panjang dalam penggunaan obat tradisional (Pometia pinnata J.R. Forst & G. Forst). Antioksidan termasuk vitamin C dan E, serta flavonoid, tanin, dan saponin dapat ditemukan dalam jumlah yang melimpah pada buah matoa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol serbuk simplisia daun matoa dan metabolit sekundernya terhadap Salmonella thypi. Variabel bebas dalam penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol daun matoa (Pometia pinnata J.R. Forst & G. Forst). Pengujian dilakukan pada ekstrak 50%, 30%, dan 30%. Aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun matoa ditentukan dari kemampuannya dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Salmonella typhi. Pelarut etanol digunakan untuk menguapkan ekstrak kental yang diperoleh dari hasil maserasi daun matoa. Ekstrak daun matoa diencerkan dengan DMSO 30%, 40%, dan 50%. Pengenceran tersebut akan menentukan seberapa baik ketahanan Salmonella typhi terhadap antibiotik. Metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, tanin, alkaloid, saponin, dan steroid dianalisis pada ekstrak etanol daun matoa dan simplisia. Salmonella thypi dihambat dengan rata-rata 12,6 mm pada konsentrasi 30% (Interpretasi menengah), 13,8 mm pada konsentrasi 40%, dan 15,3 mm pada konsentrasi 50% dengan menggunakan ekstrak etanol daun matoa. Aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol daun matoa ditunjukkan dengan zona hambat dengan diameter rata-rata daerah hambat yang sesuai dengan interpretasi Intermediate (I).

Abstract

Pineapple hump has been identified to contain secondary metabolites in saponin, flavonoid, and steroid/triterpenoid which show potential as antibacterial agents against Staphylococcus epidermidis. These bacteria are part of the normal composition of gram-positive bacteria on human skin and do not display any pathogenic characteristics. Even so, these bacteria can trigger facial skin infections, especially in the form of pimples which are often difficult to treat. This study aimed to determine the differences in bacterial inhibition of cosmetic preparations in the form of conventional serum and nano serum from pineapple hump extract (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr) against bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research uses the method of True Experimental. In this study, pineapple hump was extracted and formulated into conventional serum preparations and nano serum with various concentrations, then tested for its antibacterial activity against the bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis. Diameter of antibacterial inhibition of conventional Serum Pineapple hump Extract against bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis i.e., Blank has no inhibition, 2% concentration (10.10 mm), 10% concentration (11.28 mm) and 20% concentration (13.26 mm). The diameter of inhibition of Nano serum Pineapple Hump Extract, namely Blank, had no inhibition, 2% concentration (10.44 mm), 10% concentration (11.56 mm) and 20% concentration (15.14 mm). The positive control for Clindamycin had an inhibitory effect (32.8 mm), the positive control for the circulating Pineapple Hump Extract (15.52 mm) and the negative control had no inhibition.

Abstract

The use of herbal medicine has been increasing, which encourages researchers to use herbal materials as an alternative antibacterial, one of which is the kaffir lime leaf plant. This study was to identify the group of secondary metabolite compounds and examine the antibacterial properties of ethanol extract of kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. This study began with the preparation of simplisia powder, extracting kaffir lime leaf with ethanol, and the antibacterial activity test of extracts. The results of the study showed that the secondary metabolites contained in kaffir lime leaves are alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids and glycosides. Antibacterial activity test on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed that the ethanol extract of kaffir lime leaves with the best concentration inhibited the bacterial inhibition zone at a concentration of 10% with an inhibition diameter of 22.21 mm with a very strong category dan the best concentration is 10% with an inhibition diameter of 20.48 mm with a very strong category for Escherichia coli bacteria. Ethanol extract of Kaffir Lime leaves has been proven to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

Abstract

Rhodamin B dalam kosmetika tidak diperbolehkan sesuai No.445/MenKes/Per/V/1998. Penggunaan Rhodamin B dapat mengiritasi saluran pernapasan, penumpukannya dapat menyebabkan gangguan fungsi hati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya kandungan Rhodamin B serta kadar Rhodamin B pada lipstik, untuk mengetahui cara analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif Rhodamin B pada lipstik secara KLT Densitometri. Penelitian ini meliputi cara pengumpulan dan pembuatan larutan lipstik, pembuatan larutan Rhodamin B, pengujian Rhodamin B dan penetapan kadar Rhodamin B. Penelitian ini menggunakan 5  lipstik. Analisis kualitatif secara KLT menggunakan fase diam silika gel GF254 dan fase gerak etil asetat : metanol : ammonia (15:3:3). Analisis kuantitatif menggunakan metode Densitometri. Hasil analisis kualitatif secara KLT didapat, 2 dari 5 sampel lipstik positif Rhodamin B ditandai dengan noda berwarna orange dan berfluoresensi kuning pada lampu UV 254 nm dan 366 nm, bewarna merah muda secara visual. Nilai Rf lipstik S1 (0,68), Rf lipstik S2 (0,45), Rf lipstik S3 (0,87), Rf lipstik S4 (0,87) dan Rf lipstik S5 (0,56) dengan Rf Rhodamin B (0,87). Lipstik positif Rhodamin B dilakukan penetapan kadar dengan metode Densitometri. Kurva Kalibrasi diperoleh persamaan y = 0,221x + 1,088. Kadar Rhodamin B pada lipstik S3 sebesar 1,505 mg/g dan lipstik S4 sebesar 3,118 mg/g. Kesimpulannya lipstik kode S3 dan S4 tidak memenuhi uji persyaratan.
