Abstract

Eggs were perishable foodstuffs during distribution to consumers. Hence, appropriate egg handling and preservation methods were needed and could be applied to farmers and the egg processing industry. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of adding forest bee honey (Apis dorsata) on the physicochemical and microbiological qualities of liquid egg whites at storage temperature of 4 °C. The treatments consisted of three levels of honey (0%, 5%, and 10%) with storage durations of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 weeks. The variables analyzed include physical properties (foam capacity and foam stability), chemical properties (S-ovalbumin and protein profile on SDS-PAGE), and total plate count (TPC). The results revealed that the interaction of storage time and the addition of honey has a significant effect (p<0.05) on foam capacity, foam stability, S-ovalbumin, and TPC. Egg whites with 10% honey had higher foam capacity and foam stability, but lower S-ovalbumin content and the number of microbes after eight weeks compared to egg whites with 0% honey and 5% honey. In conclusion, the addition of 10% forest bee honey could maintain physicochemical qualities and extend the shelf life of liquid egg white during 8 weeks of cold storage.

Abstract

Mamuju is an area that has a high dose rate (radioactivity) value. The research area consists of 6 sectors namely Ahu, Orobatu, Takandeang, Botteng, Pangasaan, and Taan Sector. Lithological distribution does not represent the distribution of uranium; therefore geochemical method is needed to observe the distribution of uranium in the drainage system. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of the mobility and distribution of uranium in the drainage system using stream sediment. Uranium mobility analysis uses labile percent obtained from the ratio of total uranium and labile uranium, the total uranium value obtained from the measurement of X-Ray fluorescence spectrometry and the value of labile uranium obtained from measurement of labile fluorimetry. The sample taken from 4 potential areas based on radiometric value Map. The result of analysis shows that Ahu Sector has labile uranium anomaly >113.44 ppm, Pangasaan Sector with labile uranium anomaly >168.63 ppm, Takandeang Sector with uranium labile anomaly values >74.36 ppm, and Botteng Sector with uranium labile anomaly >84.23 ppm. The anomaly types identified from two sectors, namely Ahu Sector anomaly is related to the precipitation of dissolved uranium hydrolysates in stream deposit originating from Ahu lava and Tapalang breccia, while Takandeang Sector anomaly is related to the enrichment of in situ uranium in soil and Takandeang lava.

Abstract

Ella Ilir administratively located in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan. Regional geology of Ella Ilir area is composed of metamorphic rocks in Triassic–Carboniferous age which are intruded by Jurassic and Cretaceous granitic rocks. Radioactive minerals occurences in the area are indicated by magnetite veins radioactivities on Triassic to Carboniferous metamorphic rocks whose values range from 1,000 c/s to 15,000 c/s. Goal of the study is to determine the type of ore mineral deposits and to identify the presence of radioactive mineral in magnetite veins in Ella Ilir area. The methods used are geological mapping, radioactivity measurements, analysis on uranium grades, and mineragraphy analysis of severe magnetite veins samples. Lithologies of the study area are composed by biotite quartzite, metatuff, metasilt, metapellite, biotite granite, and ryolite. The east-west sinistral fault and the north-south dextral fault are the developed fault structures in this area. Mineral composition of magnetite veins are consists of iron ore, sulfide, and radioactive minerals. Iron ore mineral consists of magnetite, hematit, and goetite. Sulfide minerals consist of pyrite, pirhotite, and molybdenite, while radioactive minerals consist of uraninite and gummite. The occurences of magnetite veins are controlled by lithology and geological structures. The magnetite veins in metasilt are thick (1.5–5 m), filled the fractures in the fault zone. Meanwhile, the magnetite veins in metapellite are thinner (milimetric–centimetric), filled the fractures that are parallel to the schistocity. The ore deposits in the study area are iron ore deposits or magnetite ore deposits formed by magmatic hydrothermal processes.

Abstract

Site evaluation is an important phase of site selection for commercial-scale nuclear power plants (NPP) in Indonesia. Geotechnical and radioactive material dispersion aspects are some of the aspects which are assessed in site evaluation under provisions of laws and regulations. To support those aspect evaluations, it is necessary to conduct hydrogeological characterization in the vicinity of the NPP site. The purpose of this study is to determine the hydrogeological characteristic of the vicinity of the NPP site in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan Province based on geological and geophysical aspects. The methods of this study consist of geomorphological mapping, geological mapping, hydrogeological mapping, geoelectric measurement, and integrated analysis. The study area consists of three morphological units: alluvial plain, isolated hills, and coastal plain. Stratigraphically, the lithology units of the study area, from the oldest to the youngest, consist of andesite, granodiorite, diorite, quartz sand deposits, coastal deposits, and alluvial deposits. The geophysical measurement used is the geoelectric method which is conducted at 12 electrode arrays with 470 m length and spacing of 10 m. In the geoelectrical section, it can be seen that several anomalies can be interpreted as the fractured body of igneous rocks or the diorite intrusion in andesite. These anomaly values are ranged from 300 Wm to >8000 Wm. The relatively low resistivity values (<30 Wm) are interpreted as water saturated-alluvial deposits that could have a thickness of ±100 m. There are three hydrogeological units in the study area: aquifers in which flow is intergranular with high permeability, aquifers in which flow is intergranular with moderate permeability, and aquifug of local importance. Generally, the groundwater in the study area flows from SSW to NNE.

Abstract

Alluvium deposits from the Kendawangan River located in Marau, Ketapang, West Kalimantan have been known for their radioactive and rare earth mineral potential. In this paper, heavy minerals taken from alluvium deposits will be characterized to determine the elemental distribution of uranium, thorium, and rare earth elements in each mineral and their mineralogical composition. The samples are taken by panning and prepared using the flotation method to obtain heavy mineral concentrates. Geochemical analysis was carried out using a Bruker M4 Tornado plus Micro-XRF and continued with mineralogical analysis using AMICS (Advanced Mineral Identification and Characterization System) software. It was found that the distribution of heavy minerals from the sand samples was dominated by manganoan ilmenite, ilmenite, rutile, zircon, magnetite, and monazite, as well as thorite, cassiterite, xenotime, allanite, and other minerals in small quantities. Uranium, thorium, and rare earth elements are found in monazite, thorite, xenotime, zircon, and allanite.
