Abstract

Objective: Problem-solving skills are essential for students because they help develop logical, critical, and systematic thinking necessary for addressing challenges in both academic and real-life situations. These abilities involve several cognitive processes, including identifying problems, analyzing situations, exploring possible solutions, making informed decisions, and evaluating outcomes. Enhancing these skills is essential to prepare students to face complex situations independently and confidently. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the CFL (Collaborative Flipped Learning) learning model in improving students' problem-solving skills. Method: This research employed a quantitative experimental approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Students were assessed before and after the implementation of the CFL model to measure the improvement in their problem-solving skills. Result: The findings from the experiments indicated that the CFL learning model significantly enhanced students’ problem-solving skills. The results show that students marked an improvement in recognizing and resolving problems more efficiently after participating in learning activities based on the CFL model. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the application of the CFL learning model specifically to the topic of temperature and heat at the junior high school level to enhance problem-solving skills. This focus has not been widely explored and offers new insights into effective science education strategies to enhance students’ problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Science literacy skills are essential skills that need to be developed since elementary school level. However, students' achievement of science literacy is often not optimal, so innovation in learning models is needed. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model integrated with learning stages according to Jerome Bruner's theory on the science literacy skills of fifth grade elementary school students. Learning in this study was implemented using a teaching module that carries the theme of local culinary specialties of Porong, namely "Ote-Ote Porong", to provide a relevant context for students. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of fifth grade students at Sugihwaras Elementary School. The experimental group received treatment in the form of learning with the TTW model assisted by Bruner's theory using the "Ote-Ote Porong" teaching module, while the control group used conventional learning. Science literacy skills data were collected through test instruments (before and after treatment) and analyzed quantitatively using the ANCOVA statistical test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in increasing science literacy skills (p <0.05) between the experimental group and the control group. Students who learn with the TTW model assisted by Bruner's theory through contextual teaching modules show a higher increase in scientific literacy skills compared to students who learn with conventional methods. It is concluded that the Think Talk Write model assisted by Jerome Bruner's theory applied through local culinary-themed teaching modules is effective in improving the scientific literacy skills of fifth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This research aims to reintroduce local cultural heritage in the form of palm sugar production to the younger generation of Bawean people, especially in Balibak Hamlet. Palm sugar is not only a part of the community's daily life, but also represents hereditary knowledge that is rich in cultural and economic values. Through an ethnographic approach, this research explores in depth the process of making palm sugar, starting from tapping the sap of the palm tree, traditional processing using firewood, to the molding and packaging process using kelaras (dried banana leaves). Data was collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with sugar makers, and documentation of their daily activities. The results showed that palm sugar making requires not only technical skills, but also patience and thoroughness that are passed down orally from generation to generation. In addition, traditionally produced palm sugar has a more natural and low-glycemic nutritional content, making it a healthier alternative to granulated sugar. Other findings show that palm sugar products have promising economic potential, both in the local market and as a regional specialty product that deserves to be promoted more widely. The research recommends the integration of this local knowledge into contextualized learning for Bawean children and youth, so that this cultural heritage is preserved and provides economic benefits in Bawean.
