Abstract

The need for an initial understanding of critical thinking skills in students is very important. However, research has shown that most students still lack this ability, which highlights the importance of effective teaching methods to improve critical thinking skills in students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the ability of Case Study in the Glocal context to improve students' critical thinking skills. A quasi-experimental methodology was used, involving 34 female students and 14 male students in the fifth semester as participants. This study administered the Critical Thinking Skill Test (CTS) treatment to students, followed by paired and unpaired t-tests to examine the impact of the Glocal-Case Study model on their critical thinking skills. The results showed that Glocal-Case Study significantly improved students' critical thinking skills more than traditional instruction. The experimental group outperformed the control group in the post-test, indicating the effectiveness of Glocal-Case Study . Therefore, this study recommends the implementation of the Glocal-Case Study model by lecturers in global perspective courses to improve students' understanding of glocal problem solving.

Abstract

This study aims to develop educational games that use smart whiteboard media, and related devices such as Learning Implementation Plans (RPP), Student Worksheets, and Creative Thinking Test Sheets that are appropriate to be used to practice creative thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. This study uses a 4D development model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), which is limited to the third stage (develop). The use of game-based smart whiteboard media and related devices was then validated by experts and the results obtained that the media was valid and could be used in research. The study was conducted on 24 fourth-grade students of MI Miftahul Ulum with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The data collection instrument used was a media validation sheet filled out by three experts, a lesson plan implementation observation sheet, a student activity observation sheet, a creative thinking skills test sheet, and a student response questionnaire sheet. Methods of data analysis were carried out in the form of the media validation analysis, analysis of the implementation of learning activities, analysis of student activities, analysis of creative thinking skills, and analysis of student responses. The results of the research and research discussions can be concluded that the use of smart whiteboard media based on educational games to train students' creative thinking skills that have been developed is valid, practical, and effective. Keywords: smart whiteboard, educational games, creative thinking skills

Abstract

This study explores the use of the Flipbook platform as an instructional medium to enhance reading skills among students at the Indonesian School of Davao, Philippines. The need for effective and engaging learning media is crucial, particularly for students with unique characteristics, such as learners of Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), participants in the Basic Indonesian Knowledge Course (KPDI), and those newly introduced to Bahasa Indonesia. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on understanding how Flipbook can support reading comprehension and language acquisition. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis to examine the learning process and its effectiveness. The findings reveal a series of structured steps for implementing Flipbook in Bahasa Indonesia instruction, highlighting its role in improving students’ engagement, comprehension, and overall reading proficiency. The study demonstrates that Flipbook facilitates interactive and visually enriched learning experiences, making language acquisition more accessible and enjoyable. The results contribute to the development of innovative teaching strategies within the BIPA program, KPDI, and Overseas Indonesian Schools (SILN). This study underscores the potential of digital learning media in fostering literacy and offers practical implications for educators seeking to enhance reading skills in Bahasa Indonesia instruction.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve learning outcomes on solar system material by applying Stellarium learning media. Students' low understanding of abstract concepts related to solar system material is the background for this research. Apart from that, being born and raised in the Philippines and coming from various regions in Mindanao means that Davao Indonesian School students have basic problems regarding understanding language and abstract things so that students do not understand the substance of the material being taught. The science study results found that 50% of grade VI students at the Indonesian School of Davao had not met minimum criteria of 70 in the Solar System material. The research was conducted in Grade VI, school year of 2022/2023. Research activities were carried out according to the classroom action research stages including planning, implementation, observation and reflection stages. The data in this research was processed using quantitative and qualitative analysis. The research results showed an increase in student learning outcomes in each cycle, with an average of 75 in cycle I (classical completeness 62.5%) and 80 in cycle II (classical completeness 87.5%). The conclusion of this research is that applying Stellarium technology in learning solar system material can improve the learning outcomes of class VI students at the Indonesian School in Davao, Philippines.

Abstract

One of the interesting things about Sidoarjo Regency is the strong heritage of Majapahit culture, including traditional clothing. Part of the traditional clothing complement is the typical Sidoarjo Udeng Pacul Gowang. The aim of this research is to dig deeper into the history of udeng pakul gowang, study the aesthetics of the shape of udeng made by craftsmen, foster a sense of love for culture by instilling a sense of pride and love for local culture, and make mathematics learning more interesting for students by integrating udeng pacul gowang making in mathematics learning. In ethnomathematics, udeng pacul gowang is used as a learning resource that can be linked to mathematics subjects. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative which focuses on understanding descriptions and interpretations in detail and emphasizes actual conditions without any manipulation. Data collection techniques with research are used to collect in-depth information from various sources, including through (1) interviews, (2) observation, and (3) documentation studies. The results of the research show that through the udeng pacul gowang learning resource, students can learn culture with various mathematical concepts including: counting concepts, algebra, geometry, measurement, and others. Thus, it is hoped that the government and schools will support the development of a curriculum based on local wisdom, so that students can learn mathematics in a context that is more relevant to their culture.
