Abstract

This study aims to explore the local wisdom values embedded in the production of Kerupuk Gerandong as a source of character education for elementary school students. Amid the wave of globalization, local cultures are often marginalized, including traditional foods. Kerupuk Gerandong, as one of the local culinary products, not only offers a unique taste but also embodies social and cultural values relevant to education. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and literature review method, this research identifies values such as honesty, perseverance, hard work, independence, responsibility, and cooperation, which are reflected in each stage of the Kerupuk Gerandong production process. These values are expected to enrich character education and enhance students' understanding of the importance of preserving local culture. The integration of local wisdom into education also contributes to strengthening students' cultural identity and fostering an appreciation for local products from an early age. The findings reveal that learning based on local wisdom not only helps students grasp scientific concepts in real-life contexts but also develops beneficial social skills and character traits. Thus, utilizing Kerupuk Gerandong as a learning resource has the potential to support sustainable character education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Critical thinking is essential for today's students (Alpha Generation) due to rapid technology and globalization. It means thinking logically and making wise decisions. This research aimed to create an SSI-based WebQuest to improve critical thinking in elementary science students. This tool was designed using the ADDIE model and tested on 20 Grade V students at an international Christian school in West Surabaya during the second semester of 2023/2024. The research design used a one-group pretest-post-test approach. Data were collected through multiple methods, including validation, observation, a critical thinking skills test, and a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and quantitative methods. Students' critical thinking skills were examined by n-gain and nonparametric tests. The results showed that (1) the developed media was classified as very valid, (2) learning activities were carried out very well, (3) students' critical thinking skills increased with an average n-gain value of 0.70 (high category), and (4) students' response to the learning that was carried out was classified as good with a percentage of 81%. The developed science learning materials are valid, practical, and effective in improving critical thinking among young students (Generation Alpha). This study highlights the value of using real-world socio-scientific issues in science education to help students understand the links between science, technology, and society. The findings offer a basis for future research on creating effective learning tools to enhance critical thinking across subjects and can inform teacher training in designing and using WebQuest-based materials centered on these real-world issues.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to determine the improvement of student learning outcomes, encompassing both knowledge (cognitive) and skill (psychomotor) aspects. This study employs a guided inquiry model based on PhET Simulation media in its learning process, with the subject matter being the reflection and refraction of light in class VIII-B of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Taman, Sidoarjo. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model is used in this research, with 28 students as the research subjects. The research instruments include learning implementation sheets, pre-test and post-test sheets consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions, skill (psychomotor) assessment sheets, and student satisfaction questionnaires. The research data analysis uses N-gain (Normalized Gain) analysis and normality tests as prerequisites, as well as the Wilcoxon test as a non-parametric test. The learning implementation in this study shows that the PhET simulation-based guided inquiry model is effective. Furthermore, the results of the N-gain analysis indicate high criteria for each aspect, with cognitive indicators of C2 at 0.90, C3 at 0.78, and C4 at 0.87. Additionally, the skill (psychomotor) aspect achieves data results with completion criteria for each meeting. The responses given by students in the form of satisfaction with the learning process using the PhET simulation-based guided inquiry model show a positive response. Based on the research conducted, it is concluded that the PhET simulation-based guided inquiry model is effective in improving student learning outcomes, there is an improvement in learning outcomes in both knowledge (cognitive) and skill (psychomotor) aspects, and students give a positive response regarding satisfaction with learning using the PhET simulation-based guided inquiry model. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik yang mencakup aspek pengetahuan (kognitif) dan aspek keterampilan (psikomotorik). Penelitian ini menggunakan model inkuiri terbimbing berbasis media PhET Simulation pada proses pembelajarannya, dan materi yang digunakan ialah pemantulan dan pembiasan cahaya di kelas VIII-B SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Taman, Sidoarjo. Desain pre-experimental dengan model one group pretest-posttest digunakan pada penelitian ini, dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 28 peserta didik. Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan lembar keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, lembar tes pre-test dan post-test sebanyak 15 soal pilihan ganda, dan lembar penilaian aspek keterampilan (psikomotorik), serta angket kepuasan peserta didik. Analisis data penelitian menggunakan analisis N-gain (Normalized Gain) dan uji normalitas sebagai prasyarat, serta uji Wilcoxon sebagai uji non parametrik. Keterlaksanaan pembelajaran pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa model inkuiri terbimbing berbasis PhET simulation efektif untuk dilakukan. Kemudian hasil dari analisis N-gain menunjukkan kriteria tinggi untuk setiap aspeknya, untuk indikator kognitif C2 sebesar 0,90, C3 sebesar 0,78, dan C4 sebesar 0,87. Selain itu untuk aspek keterampilan (psikomotorik) memperoleh hasil data dengan kriteria tuntas untuk setiap pertemuannya. Respon yang diberikan peserta didik berupa kepuasan terhadap proses pembelajaran menggunakan model inkuiri terbimbing berbasis media PhET simulation menunjukkan respon positif. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan diperoleh kesimpulan yaitu model inkuiri terbimbing berbasis media PhET simulation efektif dilakukan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik, terdapat peningkatan hasil belajar baik aspek pengetahuan (kognitif) maupun aspek keterampilan (psikomotorik), dan peserta didik memberikan respon positif terkait kepuasan pembelajaran menggunakan model inkuiri terbimbing berbasis media PhET simulation.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop and evaluate an interactive module based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) to improve science literacy among sixth-grade elementary students. Specifically, the objectives are to create a valid, practical, and effective learning module, to assess its impact on students’ critical thinking and scientific discussion skills, and to compare the learning outcomes between experimental and control groups. Method: This study employed a development research design to create an interactive module based on Socio-Scientific Issues for sixth-grade science learning. Validation was conducted through expert reviews on content and media aspects. Practicality was tested by involving teachers and media experts. Effectiveness was measured using a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group, analyzing learning outcomes through statistical tests. Results: The developed interactive module based on Socio-Scientific Issues was validated with an average expert score of 89%, indicating its suitability for use in science learning. Practicality tests with teachers and media experts yielded a score of 90%, confirming the module’s ease of use. Effectiveness analysis showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.000), with the experimental group demonstrating higher learning outcomes and improved science literacy skills. Novelty: This study introduces an innovative interactive module integrating socio-scientific issues to enhance science literacy in elementary students. Unlike conventional modules, it emphasizes critical thinking and real-life scientific debates, supported by validated content and media, making it both practical and effective in diverse classroom settings.

Abstract

This research explores the integration of ethnoscience within the traditional batik-making process in Sidoarjo as a contextual learning resource for elementary school students. The study aims to identify scientific concepts embedded in local cultural practices and analyze their relevance to the IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) curriculum. Using a qualitative ethnographic method, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at Batik Tulis Al-Huda in Sidoarjo. Findings reveal that each stage of the batik process—from molani (sketching motifs), malemi (applying wax), nyolet (coloring), to nglorod (wax removal)—reflects basic scientific principles such as heat transfer, changes in states of matter, diffusion, and evaporation. These concepts align with key IPAS learning objectives at the elementary level. The study highlights how incorporating local wisdom into science education can foster scientific literacy, cultural identity, and contextual understanding among students. The research contributes to the development of culturally responsive teaching strategies and supports the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) curriculum by linking classroom content to students’ cultural environment. It is recommended that future studies expand to other regions and examine how ethnoscience-based resources impact student learning outcomes. This study includes 25 references, 7 observation photos, and qualitative analysis tables to support the findings.

Abstract

Indonesia, sebagai negara yang terletak di Cincin Api Pasifik, rentan terhadap bencana gempa bumi. Aktivitas seismik yang tinggi dapat menyebabkan keruntuhan bangunan dan kerusakan infrastruktur, sehingga memerlukan teknologi deteksi dini gempa. Penelitian ini mengembangkan sistem deteksi dini dengan menggunakan mikrokontroler Arduino Uno, yang merupakan solusi terjangkau dan mudah diimplementasikan di daerah rawan gempa. Arduino Uno, dilengkapi dengan sensor getar dan akselerometer, mampu mendeteksi perubahan intensitas getaran yang dapat mengindikasikan potensi keruntuhan. Sistem ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan masyarakat, khususnya di wilayah terpencil, serta mengurangi dampak bencana. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang sistem yang sederhana, efektif, dan dapat diakses oleh masyarakat dalam menghadapi risiko gempa bumi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang prototipe alat pendeteksi gempa bumi vulkanik secara real-time menggunakan buzzer yang dikendalikan oleh Arduino Uno. Pendeteksian gempa vulkanik memiliki signifikansi yang penting karena mampu memberikan peringatan dini untuk mitigasi bencana. Dalam studi ini, alat dikembangkan dengan mengintegrasikan sensor getaran yang dihubungkan ke Arduino Uno untuk mengidentifikasi aktivitas seismik, khususnya yang diakibatkan oleh pergerakan vulkanik. Saat gempa terdeteksi, buzzer akan berbunyi secara otomatis sebagai peringatan dini. Pengujian dilakukan dalam kondisi laboratorium dengan variasi intensitas getaran untuk mengukur sensitivitas dan respons alat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa alat ini mampu mendeteksi gempa vulkanik dengan baik dalam kategori intensitas yang terukur, memberikan peringatan yang cepat dan akurat. Kesimpulannya, prototipe ini memiliki potensi sebagai solusi efisien untuk peringatan dini gempa vulkanik, walaupun diperlukan pengembangan lebih lanjut untuk aplikasi lapangan.

Abstract

Penelitian yang telah dilakukan bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik melalui model pembelajaran inkuiri terstruktur pada materi pemanasan global. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pre-experimental design dengan menggunakan rancangan one group pre-test post-test design. Penelitian dilaksanakan di salah satu SMP Sidoarjo dengan jumlah sampel 31 kelas VII-F. Data keterampilan berpikir kritis pada materi pemanasan global didapatkan dari tes tulis. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada materi pemanasan global secara signifikan, di mana mendapatkan rata-rata N-gain sebesar 0,856 dengan kriteria tinggi. Pada indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis yaitu membangun penjelasan sederhana, membangun keterampilan dasar, menyimpulkan, memberikan penjelasan lanjut, menyusun strategi dan taktik mendapatkan kriteria N-gain tinggi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik yang masih rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis, keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, dan respons peserta didik setelah mengikuti Leraning Cycle 5E berbantuan PhET. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan medote eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalent Control Group. Subjek penelitian ini yakni peserta didik kelas IX-B dan IX-K yang masing-masing berjumlah 30 pada salah satu SMPN di Surabaya. Teknik pengumpulan data yaitu menggunakan tes, observasi, dan angket respons. Data dianalisis menggunakan persentase, uji beda rerata, dan N-gain. Berdasarkan penelitian diperoleh bahwa terdapat perbedaan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik antara kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan N-gain lebih tinggi pada kelas eksperimen. Hasil posttest juga lebih tinggi daripada pretest pada kelas eksperimen. Rata-rata keterlaksanaan pembelajaran pada pertemuan pertama dan kedua diperoleh penilaian dengan kategori sangat baik serta hasil respons peserta didik juga sangat positif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Leraning Cycle 5E berbantuan PhET dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada materi efek rumah kaca.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan awal pengembangan media pembelajaran interaktif Omah Si Dol untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar IPA Sekolah Dasar. Metode yang diterapkan pada penelitian ini merupakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, instrumen penelitian berupa wawancara, angket, serta observasi langsung secara langsung di lapangan. Adapun teknik analisis data yang diterapkan meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.  Hasilnya, diketahui bahwa capaian belajar siswa masih tergolong rendah, baik dari aspek pemahaman konsep maupun keterampilan proses IPA. Hal ini disebabkan oleh terbatasnya penggunaan media pembelajaran, yaitu hanya mengandalkan buku teks, LKS, presentasi PowerPoint, serta gambar. Mayoritas siswa dengan persentase 86,7% siswa menyatakan lebih tertarik pada media pembelajaran interaktif. Temuan dalam penelitian ini dapat dijadikan landasan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif Omah Si Dol yang memiliki kriteria validitas, kepraktisan, dan efektivitas.    Kata Kunci: Analisis Kebutuhan, Media Pembelajaran Interaktif, Hasil Belajar
