Third grade of English department at Nusantara PGRI Kediri University students of EFL were assigned to participate in the present study. The participants' speaking performances were analyzed qualitatively using Dornyei's (1995) taxonomy of CSs. The results of the study revealed that the context of communication plays a significant role in the use of communication strategies. The high level students applied seven communication strategies out of the twelve types of communication strategies such as: message abandonment, topic avoidance, use of non-linguistic signal, literal translation, code switching, appeal for help, and stalling for time gaining. The most frequently used were time gaining and non-linguistic signal strategies.

Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, teachers are required to carry out online learning. They may utilize technology in implementing the learning. They can choose one of interesting and interactive learning media in order to motivate their students and to promote learning. Based on the preliminary study in SMK PGRI 3 Kediri, it was found out that many teachers had not utilized the available learning platform. They only applied the application they were familiar to support their online learning, such as WhatsApp, Google Class, and Google Meet. Realizing the facts, the community service team carried out a training for the teachers to use interactive platform as media for learning, called Edmodo. The objectives the program were to train the teachers to use Edmodo platform for interactive learning, that included how to make new Edmodo accounts, how to make use the available facilities in Edmodo, and to train the school administrator to manage the program. The training was carried out in one month using in-and-on basis. The results of the training were that all teachers have already had Edmodo accounts and their account are connected with Edmodo group, which could be monitored by the school administrator.

Abstract

Pronunciation is essential for effective oral communication, yet it is often underemphasized in EFL classrooms due to teachers’ limited time, confidence, and resources. Digital tools such as YouGlish and Merriam-Webster provide authentic pronunciation models and phonetic sopport that can enhance students’ pronunciation learning. This study investigated the effectiveness of educational speaking technology in pronunciation instruction and examined the perceptions of English language learners in using the technology during their learning process. A mixed-methods design was employed involving 21 students enrolled in the Speaking for Informal Interaction course. Data were collected through pronunciation pre- and post-tests and questionnaires, including open-ended items, to capture students’ perceptions. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS, while qualitative data from open-ended responses were examined through thematic analysis. The findings indicated a significant improvement in students’ pronunciation performance after using the educational technology tools. Students also reported gains in overall speaking ability, especially in pronunciation, vocabulary use, and confidence. The tools’ authentic pronunciation examples and phonetic guides contributed greatly to these improvements. The results lead to the conclusion that incorporating educational speaking technology into language teaching can substantially enhance pronunciation skills. A balanced approach that combines technology with guided practice is recommended to maximize learning benefits and minimize potential confusion for learners.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of self-confidence and peer conformity on students’ cheating behavior in Islamic Religious Education at SMA Muhammadiyah Tanjung Redeb. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 79 students selected through simple random sampling from a population of 357 students. Self-confidence, peer conformity, and cheating behavior were measured using validated and reliable Likert-scale questionnaires, and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after meeting classical assumption tests. The results indicate that both self-confidence and peer conformity have significant partial effects on cheating behavior, with self-confidence (? = 0.438, p = 0.005) and peer conformity (? = 0.316, p = 0.047) showing positive relationships. Simultaneously, these two variables significantly predict cheating behavior (F = 11.555, p < 0.001) and explain 23.3% of the variance in students’ cheating tendencies (R² = 0.233). The novelty of this study lies in its integration of psychological and social factors within the specific context of Islamic Religious Education, highlighting how internal self-beliefs and peer dynamics interact to shape academic integrity. These findings imply that educational interventions should not only strengthen students’ self-confidence but also cultivate healthy peer norms and social awareness to effectively reduce cheating behavior and promote ethical learning practices.

Abstract

Group Investigation (GI) is an organizational approach that allows a class to work actively and collaboratively in small groups and enables students to take an active role in determining their own learning goals and processes. This study is aimed at investigating the implementation of GI to enhance the students’ writing ability. This study was conducted by using classroom action research that has two cycles within. The subject of the research was first grade students of English Department UNP Kediri. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative (writing test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, and field notes).  Based on the writing test scores, the students’ score kept improving in every test. In the pre-liminary study, there were only 43% of the students who passed the minimum standard score. After giving treatment to the students using GI, 91% of the students passed the test in cycle 1 and 100% of the students passed the test in cycle 2. The students can be more active in group work, and they can follow the process of writing well-ordered by implementing the steps of GI. The result of the research showed that GI method could enhance students’ achievement in writing instruction text.

Abstract

Judicial independence is a foundational principle in ensuring the rule of law and public trust in the judiciary. In Indonesia, this principle faces serious challenges due to recurrent judicial corruption, as revealed by multiple bribery sting operations involving judges. This article examines the concept of judicial sequestration—the isolation of judges from external influences during adjudication—as a potential safeguard for judicial impartiality. Drawing upon Al-Ghazali’s ethical framework, the study argues that effective judicial reform must integrate moral virtues such as piety, independence, and resistance to political and personal pressures. The analysis employs a normative-legal and comparative approach, juxtaposing Al-Ghazali’s judicial ethics with sequestration practices in common law systems. The findings suggest that embedding Islamic ethical values within institutional reform frameworks can enhance judicial integrity and accountability. In particular, a culturally contextualized model of judicial sequestration may serve as a viable mechanism for strengthening judicial independence in Indonesia. This study contributes to ongoing discourse on legal reform by offering a synthesis of classical Islamic thought and modern judicial ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the role of caregivers and students in building an environmental culture based on the eco-pesantren concept at Nurul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo. This pesantren is one of the Islamic educational institutions that has begun to integrate environmental awareness values into students’ daily activities. The environmental culture developed includes greening activities, cleanliness management, waste sorting, and the habituation of environmentally friendly behavior through religious approaches and exemplary conduct. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with caregivers, administrators, and students, direct observations of environmental activities, and documentation of various pesantren programs. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive Miles and Huberman model through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that caregivers play a central role in instilling ecological values through exemplary behavior, guidance, and spiritual reinforcement. Meanwhile, students actively implement these values through participation in environmental activities. The formation of environmental culture in this pesantren is not only supported by formal regulations but also by social influence, religious values, and a continuous habituation process within pesantren life.
