Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of educational supervision in improving the quality of learning in Vocational High Schools (VHS), focusing on the challenges faced and strategies to optimize its implementation in vocational education. Educational supervision is very important in supporting the professionalism of Vocational High Schools teachers, the effectiveness of school management, and improving the quality of learning that integrates vocational theory and practice. The research method used is a literature study, by reviewing scientific journals, books, and research reports related to VHS. The results of the study show that supervision carried out in a systematic, planned and sustainable manner can encourage teachers' professional growth and significantly improve the quality of vocational education. However, the implementation of supervision in Vocational High Schools still faces obstacles such as limited competence of supervisors in vocational fields, high administrative burden of teachers, and lack of structural support and resources. To overcome these obstacles, the study proposes strategies such as collaborative-based supervision between teachers and supervisors and the utilization of information technology for monitoring and evaluation. The findings are expected to provide practical contributions for policy makers, school supervisors and educators in developing educational supervision that is effective, relevant and has a positive impact on the quality of learning in Vocational High Schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of limited access to education on the sustainability of social relevance of the community in Cibaliung Village, Balai Jaya District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau. The methods used are field observation, interviews with residents, and analysis of relevant documentation. The results show that limited educational facilities, infrastructure conditions, and low community economy greatly affect children's participation in formal education. This has implications for low social mobility and inequality of access to information and skills in the community. Community involvement and government support are key to increasing the relevance of education in the village.

Abstract

Culture and education are closely interconnected in shaping students' character and thinking abilities. Culturally-based learning helps link lesson content with the values, habits, and practices embedded in society, making the learning process more contextual, meaningful, relevant, and easier to understand. Mathematics, as an essential subject for developing logical thinking skills, is often considered difficult due to its abstract nature. Therefore, the ethnomathematics approach serves as an alternative solution by integrating cultural elements into mathematics learning, making it more accessible while also preserving local cultural values. This study aims to explore the application of ethnomathematics in the Mengonji Berayak tradition in Pulau Komang Village, Sentajo Raya District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The method used is a qualitative-exploratory approach with an ethnographic design. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results show that the Mengonji Berayak tradition contains six ethnomathematical activities: counting, locating, measuring, designing, playing, and explaining. Mathematical concepts such as measurement, arithmetic operations, and geometry were also identified, which can be utilized as contextual and culturally-based learning resources. These findings indicate that ethnomathematical concepts are present in the Mengonji Berayak tradition and can be integrated into mathematics learning, particularly at the elementary school level in Phase B.

Abstract

This article was written based on qualitative research on students' motivation in participating in Boy Scout exercises. This article aims to describe the motivation of students in one integrated Islamic elementary school in Pekanbaru to take part in a scout-raising(penggalang) exercise. The sample in this study were 17 students raising, consisting of 9 men and 8 women. Data was collected using direct interviews with students and documentation in the form of program documents, reports and photos of activities. Held in the even semester term 2019/2020. From the results of data processing it was found that in following the Scouting activities students were influenced by several intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors are first the need to be accepted and respected, secondly the hope to develop abilities, and thirdly the interests associated with socialization. Next extrinsic factor is the first family, because of the family background of a member of the scout, the second environment, the environment of friendship students become one of the students' encouragement to participate in scout activities, Thirdly the rewards, these rewards are also a bit of one of the reasons children participate in scouting activities , because of the award given by the school to students who excel in scouting activities, triggers the emergence of student motivation. With these results, it is hoped that advanced scout activities will need to consider these three factors.

Abstract

The background of this research is that there are several symptoms in the process of learning mathematics, namely: 1) passive / inactive students are characterized by the absence of questions after the teacher explains. 2) the number of noisy students is seen from the number of students who walk to see the assignment exercises given by the teacher. 3) the number of students who do not understand and understand is seen from the number of students who repeatedly ask when given practice. This research is a classroom action research that aims to improve student mathematics learning outcomes by applying problem-based learning models. This research was conducted in class V SDN 30 Pekanbaru. Data collection instruments in this thesis are teacher and student activity sheets and student learning outcomes assessment sheets. This thesis presents preliminary data before applying the problem-based learning model (PBM) which is 79.17 and increased to 83.04 in the first cycle and increased again to 92.60. Teacher activity also increased at each meeting, namely 65% with a good category in the first cycle the first meeting increased to 70% with a good category. In the second cycle also increased to 90% with a very good category at the first meeting and increased to 95% with a very good category at the second meeting. In the results of this study student learning outcomes have increased after applying the problem-based learning model (PBM) marked by an increase in teacher and student activities in each cycle. The results of this study prove that the problem-based learning model can improve mathematics learning outcomes of fifth grade students of SDN 30 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Abstract: This study explores the influence of peer environments on school dropout cases among children in Kecamatan Sail, Pekanbaru. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that peer interaction, role and decision-making, as well as values and norms promoted within the peer group, significantly impact students' decisions to leave school. The peer environment that discourages education tends to lead children to mimic negative behaviors, ultimately resulting in school dropout. This study highlights the urgent need for community-based interventions to cultivate positive peer environments that support education. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the potential of science-themed educational games in improving the scientific communication skills of elementary school students. The main focus lies in examining the development of students' ability to express ideas, build arguments, and use scientific vocabulary in an authentic and engaging learning context. This study used a naturalistic qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, audio-video recordings of classroom activities, and documentation of students’ work in grade V of a public elementary school. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data, supported by the application of the Toulmin Argumentation Pattern (TAP) framework. This framework facilitates the identification of key argument components, including claims, data, guarantees, qualifications, and rebuttals. The findings show that the game "Science Monopoly" effectively stimulates various forms of scientific communication in a natural way. Students presented claims and backed them up with data relevant to the science topic being discussed. However, this study also reveals significant limitations in the development of justification and the use of capital markers, which appear to be less prominent in student discourse. The word cloud analysis further highlights that the scientific vocabulary used by students is primarily concerned with themes such as the water cycle, the Earth's rotation, and the solar system. These results suggest that integrating science content into educational game formats can significantly increase student engagement and deepen their conceptual understanding of scientific phenomena. Based on these findings, the study recommends integrating science literacy-oriented educational games into formal instructional settings. Such integration should be supported by the use of multimodal representations and the structured scaffolding of educators to develop students' scientific communication skills further. This research contributes to the advancement of participatory and meaningful science learning strategies that encourage critical thinking from an early age.    Keywords: verbal interaction, educational games, science literacy, scientific communication, Toulmin Argumentation Pattern, basic education.
