Abstract

The limited English proficiency of most Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) became the background for this community service program. This activity aims to improve the quality of human resources, particularly in mastering English as a global language as well as digital communication competence, among young MSME entrepreneurs. Jatisela Village, located in Gunungsari District, is a developing area with many MSME players and is close to Senggigi Beach, a well-known tourist destination visited by both domestic and international tourists. Unlike conventional language training, this program combines LSP-based English learning with peer mentoring and digital artifact production to address the specific needs of rural MSMEs. The implementation involved several stages, including surveys, task distribution, execution, and monitoring. The activities included material sharing, practice sessions, and discussions. A pre-test was conducted before the training, and a post-test afterward to measure participants’ progress. Continuous monitoring was carried out by the team. The pre-test results showed that only 30% of the 20 participating MSME entrepreneurs were able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with foreign tourists, while 70% were unable to do so.The training employed a diffusion method focused on English conversation for buying and selling offers to improve digital marketing skills. The sessions combined lectures, question-and-answer discussions, hands-on practice, and finally, a post-test and evaluation. The post-test results showed an improvement of 40%, with 70% of participants becoming more confident and capable of communicating in English both orally and in writing, while 30% still required further guidance. The evaluation results indicated that nearly 100% of participants were satisfied with the program.

Abstract

Phonological ability is a fundamental aspect of early childhood language development, closely linked to later literacy and communication skills. This study, titled "Phonological Ability of Early Childhood through Language-Based Play Activities at YLPI Riau Kindergarten," investigates the effectiveness of language-based play in enhancing phonological skills among young learners. The research is grounded in the understanding that play serves as a natural medium for language acquisition in early childhood education settings. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to explore how structured language-based play activities contribute to children's phonological development. The subjects of this study were children aged 4–5 years at YLPI Riau Kindergarten. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews with teachers, and documentation of children's play activities. Observations focused on children’s ability to recognize and manipulate sounds, including rhyming, syllable segmentation, and initial sound identification. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify patterns and themes related to phonological development during play. The analysis emphasized how specific types of language-based play—such as storytelling, rhyming games, sound matching, and singing—supported the development of phonological awareness in a playful and engaging context. The results revealed that language-based play activities significantly contributed to the improvement of children’s phonological abilities. Children showed increased awareness of sounds, improved pronunciation, and greater ability to distinguish phonemes. Teachers also played a key role by facilitating and scaffolding the play in ways that promoted language learning. In conclusion, language-based play activities are effective pedagogical tools for fostering phonological development in early childhood. The findings highlight the importance of integrating purposeful play in early education curricula to support foundational language skills in a developmentally appropriate manner

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of zigzag run training on the improvement of agility in students participating in the futsal extracurricular program at MAN Insan Cendekia Palu. The research employed a pretest–posttest experimental design with a total of 20 students, who were divided into control and experimental groups using an ordinal pairing technique. The agility T-test was used as the measurement instrument. The zigzag run intervention was conducted over four weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. The results indicated that the data were normally distributed, and the Paired Sample t-test for the experimental group yielded a significance value of 0.000, demonstrating a significant improvement in agility following the training. In contrast, the control group showed no significant change. These findings suggest that zigzag run training is effective in enhancing futsal students’ agility and is recommended as a regular component of training programs.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of the Talking Chips strategy on enhancing critical thinking during English speaking tasks among vocational students. While these students often excel in practical skills, they struggle with critical thinking in English, leading to a skills gap in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. Using a quasi-experimental design, two eleventh-grade classes from a Tourism and Travel Business program at vocational schools participated in a pretest-posttest speaking assessment. The experimental group (n = 25) used the Talking Chips strategy, while the control group (n = 25) followed conventional methods. The speaking assessments were evaluated using an analytic rubric, with high inter-rater reliability (0.87). Mann-Whitney U analysis revealed a significant treatment effect (U = [insert value], p = .001, r = [insert effect size]), indicating that the Talking Chips strategy effectively improved students’ analytical reasoning and reflective responses. These findings suggest that cooperative learning strategies, like Talking Chips, can enhance higher-order thinking skills in EFL speaking classrooms. The study concludes that incorporating turn-taking structures in speaking tasks helps foster deeper reasoning and encourages more purposeful argumentation, recommending that teachers use such techniques to promote critical thinking in vocational EFL settings.

Abstract

This study discusses the influence of tactical learning approaches in soccer learning on physical fitness of Sport Senior High School students in Riau. The purpose of this study is to determine the physical fitness that is applied through a tactical learning approach and through a technical approach in soccer learning. The method used in this study is an experimental method. The population in this study were 109 male students of Sport Senior High School in Riau. The number of samples, which 30 students, was divided by two cells using cluster random sampling. The study was taken for 4 months, which the number of treatments is 16 meetings with a frequency of 3 times a week. The instrument chosen by the author was a physical fitness test. The results of data analysis showed that based on the calculated value and analysis of the calculated t-value obtained, the calculated t-value obtained was greater than t-table at the confidence level α = 0.05 with df (n1 + n2 − 2) = 28, where t-value (1 − 1/2 α) in the distribution list, the value of t-table is 1.97. Since t-value is greater than t-table 1.761, it can be concluded: (1) the learning approach using tactical approach in soccer learning had an influence on the physical fitness of students of Sport Senior High School in Riau; (2) the learning approach using technical approach in soccer learning had an influence on physical fitness students of Sport Senior High School in Riau; (3) the learning approach using the tactical approach and the technical approach in soccer learning had the same effect on the physical fitness of Sport Senior High School students in Riau. However, the learning approach using the tactical approach gave more significant influence than the technical learning approach in soccer learning.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The implementation of Indonesia’s Independent Curriculum places strong emphasis on student-centered, project-based, and differentiated learning, including in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK), which plays a vital role in students’ holistic development. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which PJOK teaching strategies aligned with the Independent Curriculum are implemented in five elementary schools in Palu City Methodology: A quantitative descriptive research design was employed, integrating questionnaire data, classroom observations, and document analysis to obtain a comprehensive picture of instructional practices. The participants consisted of 15 PJOK teachers from five public elementary schools, with data collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire to capture teachers’ perceptions and self-reported practices. Main Findings: The findings indicate that PJOK teachers have largely adopted the Independent Curriculum principles, particularly in planning, assessment, and participation in training programs, which achieved high performance levels. Nevertheless, persistent challenges were identified in the utilization of learning media, limited infrastructure, and time constraints, which restricted the optimal implementation of innovative PJOK learning activities. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in its focused empirical examination of PJOK within the Independent Curriculum framework, a subject area that remains underrepresented in curriculum implementation research. By highlighting contextual disparities and practical constraints, this study provides evidence-based insights to inform policy decisions, school leadership strategies, and targeted professional development to strengthen PJOK instruction in primary education.
