Abstract

Globalization and the expansion of free trade have affected hospitals in Indonesia. In the digital era, hospitals face intense competition, especially in preventive services such as medical check-ups (MCUs). Word of mouth (WOM) and social media have become the main communication tools influencing patient decisions. However, patient trust in hospitals plays an important role as a mediator of the influence of WOM and social media on visit interest. This research analyzes the influence of WOM and social media on patient interest, with trust as a mediating variable. Data show a trend of increasing interest in MCU services after the COVID-19 pandemic. The research results are expected to contribute to marketing communication strategies for healthcare services based on trust and digital engagement. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of WOM and social media on interest in visiting the MCU service at XYZ Hospital Semarang, with trust as a mediating factor. This is an explanatory quantitative study using a survey design. The sampling technique in this research uses purposive sampling with at least 129 respondents who meet the research criteria. Data were processed using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method. The research results show that WOM, social media, and trust significantly influence patients’ visit interest; WOM and social media significantly influence trust. Trust significantly mediates the influence of WOM on patients’ visit interest, and trust significantly mediates the influence of social media on patients’ visit interest.

Abstract

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted Bali's tourism sector, with international tourism declining by 99% in 2021 due to travel restrictions. Despite the dire circumstances, the hotel industry in Bali is recovering quickly. This study examines the effects of COVID-19 on organizational trust and employee loyalty in the tourism industry, focusing on long-term effects and post-pandemic recovery. A survey of 200 employees from three to five-star hotels in Bali assessed the impact on loyalty and the mediating role of organizational trust. Findings indicate that management's pandemic-related actions reduced employee loyalty due to decreased job security and heightened stress. Organizational trust declined during tourism uncertainty, particularly from early 2020 to mid-2022, but showed signs of recovery in 2023 and 2024. Results from expert interviews indicate that trust mitigated the pandemic's impact on employee loyalty, with the cultural values of the Hindu philosophy Tri Hita Karana playing a significant role in Balinese society. This study underscores the importance of organizational trust in maintaining employee loyalty post-crisis.

Abstract

This study explores the cultural and spatial limitations surrounding the use of traditional houses (Sa’o) as tourist accommodations in Kampung Adat Wologai, a cultural village in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. While rural tourism and desa wisata development often promote homestays in vernacular architecture, the sacred function of the Sa’o renders such usage inappropriate in Wologai. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research draws on field observations, semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders—including Mosalaki, village officials, tourism groups, and the local tourism office—and secondary data from academic and government sources. The findings reveal that the Sa’o are central to ancestral rituals and cannot be opened to outsiders for overnight stays. In response, the Dinas Pariwisata proposed a terminological and spatial distinction between rumah adat and rumah tradisional to guide future accommodation planning. A SWOT and SOAR analysis shows potential for homestay development through modern houses located outside the ritual core, reflecting cultural respect while meeting tourism demands. This research highlights the need for localized policy approaches and the vital role of customary leadership in sustainable tourism planning. Theoretically, it contributes to the discourse on heritage and tourism, while practically, it offers a culturally sensitive model for accommodation development in desa wisata with strong ritual traditions.
