Abstract

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of learning independence as a foundation for young children’s academic readiness and self-regulation; however, its implementation at home is often shaped by variations in parental habituation practices and family constraints. The study aims to describe parents’ habituation methods in educating children, identify habituation practices used to foster children’s learning independence, and map the constraints faced by parents in Bajawa District. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through interviews with parents and teachers and observations of children during learning activities, then analyzed thematically and validated through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that parental habituation is reflected in adaptive learning schedules, routines of preparing and tidying learning materials, the provision of simple tasks accompanied by opportunities for children to take initiative, and appreciation for independent efforts. In school, learning independence is indicated by initiative to start activities, responsibility, discipline, self-confidence, and problem-solving ability. Variation emerged in step-by-step assistance because some parents tended to take over tasks, reducing children’s opportunities to practice. Major constraints included limited time due to work, a less conducive home learning environment, fluctuating moods, and low attention during learning. These findings highlight the need for consistent yet flexible habituation, improved quality of step-by-step guidance, and strengthened home–school collaboration to support children’s learning independence

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of family parenting styles in enhancing the literacy skills of children aged 6–8 during the transition from Early Childhood Education to elementary school. This transitional phase is critical as children move from learning to read toward reading to learn, which requires more advanced literacy competencies. Employing a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, this study explores parents’ lived experiences in supporting children’s reading and writing development within the home context. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of family literacy activities, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that democratic parenting styles play a significant role in fostering children’s intrinsic motivation and independence in literacy activities. Intensive verbal interactions, such as dialogic reading and post-reading discussions, were found to enhance children’s comprehension, narrative skills, and expressive language. In addition, guided use of digital media with active parental mediation supports the development of multimodal literacy when integrated purposefully. Supporting factors identified include consistent home reading routines and strong parental emotional involvement. Conversely, limited parental time and the lack of contextual and age-appropriate reading materials emerged as major barriers to effective family literacy practices. The study concludes that family parenting is a key factor in bridging literacy gaps during the transition from PAUD to elementary school. These findings imply the need for a family literacy model that integrates democratic parenting, rich verbal interaction, and guided digital literacy to support children’s literacy development during this critical transition phase.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of school culture in forming a holistic educational environment in Kober St Leonard Warikeo. Qualitative methods were used through observation and interviews during PLP 1 (17–27 February 2025) with a focus on school culture, learning processes, and interactions between school members. Participants included 13 students, teachers, and education personnel. The results of the study indicate that the school culture in the institution is supported by a clear vision and mission, structured rules, and co-curricular and extracurricular activities that support student development. As many as 76.93% of students are in the “very well developed” category, supported by positive practices such as the 3S culture (smile, greet, say hello), high discipline, and teacher role models. Teachers demonstrate a commitment to active, innovative learning, and responsive mentoring. Other supporting factors include a beautiful school environment, adequate facilities, and positive responses to stakeholder input. These findings confirm that a collaborative, value-oriented, and adaptive school culture contributes significantly to the achievement of student development academically and in character. The implication is that schools need to strengthen participatory culture and consistency in implementing rules to ensure the sustainability of educational quality. This study recommends the integration of school culture as a primary strategy in developing a holistic curriculum at the PAUD level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between children's self-confidence and the social interaction skills of early childhood at TKK Maria Gunung Karmel Satap SDK Naru. The background of this study is based on the variation in children's self-confidence levels, which impact the quality of their social interactions in the school environment. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The study population was all early childhood children at the school, with a total sampling technique. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used an interactive analysis model that includes three main stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that children's self-confidence levels vary, and there is a significant positive relationship between self-confidence and social interaction skills. Children with high self-confidence tend to be more active, able to cooperate, have the courage to communicate, and are more adaptable to their social environment. These findings indicate that strengthening self-confidence from an early age is crucial for supporting optimal children's social development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parenting style of parents in the prevention of stunting in early childhood in Faobata Village and identify various challenges faced in daily parenting practices. Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that not only affects children's physical growth, but also impacts cognitive development and the quality of human resources in the future. Therefore, parenting that includes the fulfillment of nutrition, health and hygiene, and psychosocial stimulation is an important factor in stunting prevention efforts. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of five parents who had children identified as stunting and were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, grouping of findings, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that parents have tried to provide food regularly, maintain children's hygiene, and show good emotional attention. However, nutritional variation and balance have not been optimal, health monitoring visits have not been carried out consistently, and developmental stimulation is still spontaneous and unplanned.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze parental communication strategies in introducing social aspects to children aged 5-6 years in Faobata Village and see the correlation with children's social performance at school. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with three parents and one kindergarten teacher, as well as observations of communication practices in daily life. The results of the study show that parents' communication strategies are divided into two main forms, namely verbal and nonverbal communication. Verbal communication is carried out through inductive reasoning, simple advice, and positive reinforcement in the form of praise. This strategy helps children understand the cause-and-effect relationship in social behavior so that the obedience formed is conscious and rational. Meanwhile, nonverbal communication such as hugs, facial expressions, touch, and eye gestures play a role in building emotional regulation and secure attachment between parents and children. Habituation and example are the main instruments in internalizing social values. This study also found a strong correlation between home parenting and children's social performance at school. Children who receive emotional attention and consistent communication at home show better ability to share, cooperate, and resolve conflicts in the school environment. In addition, the sociocultural values of the Bajawa people also strengthen the process of social education in the family.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in early childhood as an effort to prevent the risk of stunting in Bajawa Village. Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that is not only influenced by lack of nutritional intake, but also by environmental sanitation factors, recurrent infections, and family parenting. This study uses a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation methods. The research informants consisted of parents of early childhood, Posyandu cadres, and health workers. The data were analyzed descriptively to describe the conditions of PHBS implementation, children's food consumption patterns, environmental sanitation, and the role of parents in supporting children's growth and development. The results of the study showed that most of the children had applied several PHBS indicators such as washing their hands with soap, maintaining personal hygiene, and participating in growth monitoring at the Posyandu. Children's food consumption patterns are already regular in the frequency of meals, but variation and nutritional balance still need to be improved, especially in the consumption of vegetables, fruits, and various protein sources. The general environmental sanitation condition is quite good, characterized by the availability of clean water and latrines, although waste management and drainage still need improvement. The active role of parents has proven to be an important factor in forming healthy living habits in children.
