Abstract

Purpose – This study analyzes the fundamental concepts of Mahmud Kamil an-Naqah’s linguistic thought and examines their implications for the development of curriculum, methods, and evaluation in Arabic language teaching for non-native speakers. Design/methods/approach – The research used a qualitative descriptive-analytical design grounded in biographical study and library research, the study examined an-Naqah’s primary works and relevant secondary literature through content analysis. Findings – The findings show that his framework is rooted in Arabic linguistics, applied linguistics, and language learning theory, with communicative language use positioned at the center of instruction. The study also finds that the four language skills are treated as integrated competencies, while grammar functions as a supporting element, and that needs analysis, learner characteristics, communicative performance, and psychological variables are central to effective Arabic instruction. The study is limited by its reliance on conceptual and literature-based analysis, without direct classroom testing of an-Naqah’s model. Further research is recommended to examine its implementation in diverse educational settings and to evaluate its effectiveness through empirical and mixed-method designs. Research Implications – These findings indicate that an-Naqah offers a practical paradigm for shifting Arabic pedagogy from rigid structural-grammatical instruction toward a more functional, contextual, and applied model.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the community response and implementation of the Khuruj fï Sabïlillah program using the Tarbiyah Iṣlähiyah method as an effort to improve the community by the Jama'ah Tabligh in Palopo City. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive analysis with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was conducted using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies. The collected data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model with three forms of activities: data condensation, data display, testing the validity of data, data triangulation, then drawing research conclusions as the final process to answer questions from the research. The results of the study show the response of the Palopo community to the khuruj fī sabīlillāh program is generally positive as an expression of religious life, supported by the charismatic ulama known as the “Lima Serangkai” and reinforced through synergy with traditional leaders, government authorities, and established Islamic organizations, while any opposition identified is individual in nature and does not reflect collective public attitudes. The implementation of the program largely depends on the capacity of the murabbi as the main field executor, making the selection of individuals with strong religious competence, emotional stability, and experience in mentoring new participants crucial; although the program has reached all segments of society, its sustainability and fidelity to core values require consistent follow-up, continuous supervision, and objective evaluation down to the lowest mahallah level. This study highlights the importance of cultural context and leadership in the success of the khuruj fī sabīlillāh program in Palopo. Theoretically, it demonstrates the strength of community-based movements with murabbi as key spiritual leaders, while practically it calls for adaptive tarbiyah iṣlāḥiyah to develop the program as a model for empowering religious practice.

This research aims to analyze the Mufradat learning process in improving the maharah al-kalam of SDIT Nurul Kautsar Makassar students. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a Grounded Theory research approach and analyzes improvements using an oral test evaluation approach. The results of this research show that the mufradt learning process obtained by the results of the interviews showed an increase in students' maharah al-kalam in the medium category and the oral test on students showed that 25% of students got high scores, the students who got 41.6% had medium scores, 16% of students with low scores and 16% of students who got very low scores. The implication of this research is that serious persistence and attention is needed from all parties, especially Arabic language teachers. For this reason, it is recommended that Arabic language teachers increase their attention and efforts in motivating students and find solutions such as further developing teaching methods so that they are interested in learning Arabic, and even foster in students a need for Arabic.
