Abstract

Background: Stunting affects the quality of a country's human resources so it is important to prevent and overcome it. Stunting cases in Kalinyamatan Jepara District have increased from 12.4% in 2021 to 18.9% in 2022 and to 19.05% in 2023. Objectives: This research analyzed the stunting risk factors of two-year-old toddlers in Kalinyamatan district, Jepara Regency. Methods: This case-control study involved 77 stunting children and 77 normal children. The researchers selected the subjects at the integrated health care service with the highest number of visitors of two-year-old toddlers from 12 villages in Kalinyamatan district, Jepara regency, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research lasted from March to April 2024. The researchers collected the primary data with a questionnaire and the dietary diversity with a food recall questionnaire for 2x24 hours. Secondary data was collected from the mother-child health book (KIA). Results: The results showed no differences in terms of ages and sex types from both stunting and normal children. The multivariate analysis with logistic regression test found a correlation between the anemia history during pregnancy (OR:2.75; 95% CI:1.31 – 5.78; p:0.007), career woman status (OR: 2.81; 95% CI: 1.24-6.37; p:0.014), low birth weight (OR: 3.98; 95% CI: 1.54-10.27; p:0.004), low dietary diversity (OR: 3.71; 95% CI: 1.63-8.44; p:0.002), and incomplete immunization (OR: 4.02; 95% CI: 1.66-9.74; p:0.002) with the stunting prevalence. Conclusions: Maternal (the anemia history during the pregnancy, career woman status, and low birth weight), lack of dietary diversity, and incomplete immunization become the simultaneous determinants of stunting risk factors for two-year-old toddlers in Kalinyamatan district, Jepara Regency.

Abstract

Introduction: Diponegoro Clinic reported 29.1% of students seek infectious diseases treatment. Student habits in the classroom were thought to play roles in the presence of bacteria. Surfaces of inanimate objects in the classroom were potential source for bacteria. The research objectives were analyzing student’s habits and identifying bacteria on the surface of inanimate objects in the classroom. Methods: Four types of samples, including the surfaces of tables, chairs, flips of air conditioners, and floors were taken from 13 faculties at Universitas Diponegoro. Plate count agar media were used to isolate bacterial colonies, and PCR analysis was performed for DNA extraction and amplification. DNA Sanger sequencing techniques were used for genetic bacterial identification. The online questionnaire was used to assess student habits in the classroom. Two hundred students responded. Results and Discussion: Acinetobacter baumannii and Staphylococcus aureus were found in classrooms. These bacteria were associated with respiratory tract infections. This study revealed that 86.5% were between the ages of 17-21, 60.81% were from outside Semarang City, and 88.33% lived in Semarang City. About 60.81% of respondents studied in health sciences. Furthermore, it was reported that 66.67% of respondents were sick in the last few weeks, attended class despite being sick (72.52%), and coughed and sneezed in class (40.99%). Conclusion: Bacteria associated with respiratory tract infection were found. Students' habits in the classroom were potentially caused by the presence of these bacteria. The use of antibacterial agents could reduce the presence of bacteria on inanimate object surfaces.

Abstract

Introduction: Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) can impact both the mother and her baby, leading to a decrease in quality of life, premature delivery, reduced oxytocin levels, developmental disorders in the baby, and incidents of suicide. WHO recommends that PMH screening for postpartum mothers conducted by trained healthcare professionals can reduce the impact caused by PMH. The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of training in improving the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of midwives regarding the implementation of Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) screening for postpartum mothers. Methods: The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental pre-posttest control group design to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of midwives in conducting Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) screening for postpartum mothers. A total of 60 midwives were sampled and divided into 2 (two) groups, with 30 midwives in each group, the control group and the intervention group. Results: The research results show that the training successfully significantly increased the midwives' knowledge (p-value 0.000). However, the training did not have a significant impact on attitude changes (p-value 0.137) and midwife practices (p-value 0.068). Conclusion:The training provided successfully increased midwives' knowledge regarding perinatal mental health screening, but it has not yet significantly changed their attitudes and practices. This is likely due to the training duration being too short and the evaluation time being insufficient to support sustainable change.

Abstract

Pregnant with hypertension is one of the main causes of maternal and fetal death, but efforts to resolve them have not been optimal. To determine the difference in anxiety scores by Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on pregnant women with hypertension. This study used a cross-over design. A total of 36 women in the third trimester obtained by random sampling were given PMR and bed rest. The measurement used HARS questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-tets. There was a significant difference in anxiety scores before and after PMR (P <0.001), while there was no difference in bed rest (P> 0.05). There was a significant difference between PMR and bed rest on anxiety scores (P <0.001) with a greater mean reduction on PMR therapy. PMR can reduce anxiety scores in pregnant women with hypertension, so PMR can be a complementary therapy in obstetric care for them.

Abstract

Background: A food poisoning incident occurred on Saturday, February 24, 2024, during a religious gathering in Kecapit Hamlet, Wulungsari Village, Selomerto Sub-district, with a total of 44 cases. The objective of this investigation was to identify the source of the outbreak and the risk factors associated with the food poisoning incident. Methods: Food poisoning was defined as a condition in individuals experiencing illness with symptoms and signs of poisoning caused by consuming food suspected of containing biological or chemical contaminants. An outbreak investigation using a cross-sectional study design was conducted. Research questionnaires were used to collect data on risk factors as well as signs and symptoms. A total of 58 individuals who attended the event were included as samples. These factors were analyzed descriptively, and attack rates were calculated for each factor. Fecal samples from clinically ill cases were collected for laboratory testing. Results and Discussion: Out of the 58 individuals, 44 experienced symptoms of diarrhea >3 times (72.4%), abdominal cramps (69%), fever (62.1%), vomiting (22.4%), and nausea (58.4%). More cases were detected in males (52%) with an age range of 5-81 years (average 41.7 years). The incubation period ranged from 6-15 hours (average 11.41 hours). The investigation results indicated that individuals who consumed durian coconut syrup became ill (44/58; Attack Rate 93.6%). Stool laboratory test results showed positive for Salmonella. However, laboratory testing for the durian coconut syrup was not conducted in this study due to the unavailability of samples. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the investigation, it can be concluded that the cause of the food poisoning was durian coconut syrup contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. This contamination may have occurred because the food spoiled as it was prepared at 8:00 AM and served in the afternoon (3:00 PM).
