Abstract

Pregnant with hypertension is one of the main causes of maternal and fetal death, but efforts to resolve them have not been optimal. To determine the difference in anxiety scores by Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on pregnant women with hypertension. This study used a cross-over design. A total of 36 women in the third trimester obtained by random sampling were given PMR and bed rest. The measurement used HARS questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-tets. There was a significant difference in anxiety scores before and after PMR (P <0.001), while there was no difference in bed rest (P> 0.05). There was a significant difference between PMR and bed rest on anxiety scores (P <0.001) with a greater mean reduction on PMR therapy. PMR can reduce anxiety scores in pregnant women with hypertension, so PMR can be a complementary therapy in obstetric care for them.

Abstract

Background: A food poisoning incident occurred on Saturday, February 24, 2024, during a religious gathering in Kecapit Hamlet, Wulungsari Village, Selomerto Sub-district, with a total of 44 cases. The objective of this investigation was to identify the source of the outbreak and the risk factors associated with the food poisoning incident. Methods: Food poisoning was defined as a condition in individuals experiencing illness with symptoms and signs of poisoning caused by consuming food suspected of containing biological or chemical contaminants. An outbreak investigation using a cross-sectional study design was conducted. Research questionnaires were used to collect data on risk factors as well as signs and symptoms. A total of 58 individuals who attended the event were included as samples. These factors were analyzed descriptively, and attack rates were calculated for each factor. Fecal samples from clinically ill cases were collected for laboratory testing. Results and Discussion: Out of the 58 individuals, 44 experienced symptoms of diarrhea >3 times (72.4%), abdominal cramps (69%), fever (62.1%), vomiting (22.4%), and nausea (58.4%). More cases were detected in males (52%) with an age range of 5-81 years (average 41.7 years). The incubation period ranged from 6-15 hours (average 11.41 hours). The investigation results indicated that individuals who consumed durian coconut syrup became ill (44/58; Attack Rate 93.6%). Stool laboratory test results showed positive for Salmonella. However, laboratory testing for the durian coconut syrup was not conducted in this study due to the unavailability of samples. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the investigation, it can be concluded that the cause of the food poisoning was durian coconut syrup contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. This contamination may have occurred because the food spoiled as it was prepared at 8:00 AM and served in the afternoon (3:00 PM).

Abstract

Background: Malaria remains a public health challenge in eastern Indonesia, especially in remote areas like Manusa Village, where access to healthcare is limited. The community relies on traditional treatment using eye drops made from Kenar leaves (Kleinhovia hospita L.). The purpose of this study is to explore, from an epidemiological perspective, the use of Kenar leaves as a primary component in the formulation of traditional malaria remedies within the community of Manusa Village is lacking. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires and phytochemical analysis of Kenar leaves. A total of 102 respondents voluntarily participated in the study. Results: Among respondents from 102 respondents, 67,6% had experienced malaria, and 68,6% reported using Kenar leaf eye-drops. Use was significantly associated with prior malaria history (POR = 15,057; p < 0,001) and age group 26-45 years (POR = 17,813; p < 0,001). Conversely, respondents with current malaria symptoms were less likely to use the drops (POR = 0,042; p = 0,002). Twice-weekly use was associated with better recovery outcomes (POR = 0,168; p = 0,003). The majority (84,3%) reported mild side effects, such as transient eye irritation. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, and tannins compounds with known antimalarial properties. Conclusion: This study provides new evidence linking traditional knowledge and community-based practices with malaria self-treatment, highlighting implications for health promotion strategies.

Abstract

Background: Community participation has been widely recognized as a key determinant of successful and sustainable dengue control efforts. Developing a community participation model that aligns with local needs is essential for achieving long-term effectiveness. However, limited information on the capacity and engagement of both community leaders and non-leaders in high-endemic areas has hindered optimal model development due to the lack of supporting evidence. Objective: This study aimed to assess the potential capacity of the community and to identify factors associated with dengue control efforts, as part of developing a sustainable dengue prevention model in a high-endemic setting in Semarang, Indonesia. Methods: A total of 107 households, consisting of both community leaders and non-leaders, were included in this study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire through a household survey employing a quantitative approach. Results: The findings indicated that the highest levels of community capacity were observed in health service providers (81.9%), community participation (81.7%), and network awareness among regional leadership groups (80.7%). Key stakeholder contributions were most prominent in disseminating information or knowledge (81.1%), engaging in community activities (79.1%), and providing supporting facilities and infrastructure (75.7%). The development of an effective dengue control model must take into account perceived susceptibility to dengue, self-efficacy, social mobility, and paternal involvement. Conclusion: The development of community-based dengue control models must be aligned with existing community capacities. Policymakers should strengthen dengue control strategies by optimizing both well-established and currently underutilized community assets to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability. Abstract

Objective: To analyze the risk factors for mortality and comorbidity of COVID-19 patients in a public health center work area in Indonesia. Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational analytic quantitative study using secondary data of 820 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Brebes Public Health Center work area during the period of June 2020–December 2021. Univariate and bivariate analyses were used to analyze the obtained data statistically with a p-value of <0.005 considered significant. Results: Of the 820 confirmed COVID-19 patients, 85.1% recovered and 15.0% died. Analysis on the characteristics of these cases showed that 51.2% females and 48.8 %  males were included in this study, with 77.6% of them were <60 years old. No history of comorbidities was identified in 92.1% of the cases. In remaining cases with comorbidities, Diabetes Mellitus was recognized as the most prevalent (n=39, 4.8%).  Results of the Chi-Square test demonstrated that comorbidity status (p-value = 0.001), place of quarantine (p p=0.000 p>0.05), and diabetes (p=0.000, OR=2.87,  95% CI 19 1.24-0280) were significantly associated with mortality. Conclusion: Comorbidity status, diabetes, and the place quarantine are risk factors for mortality among COVID-19 confirmed cases, especially in Brebes Public Health Center work area. Thus, it is important to increase knowledge about COVID-19 prevention and risks to prevent transmission among those with higher risks for mortality. Further studies on factors related to sustainable supports for COVID-19 patients are also necessary.
