Abstract

This study aims to determine the efficacy of jatropha curcas L. cream in the maturation phase of healing of mice leather injuries. This study used nine rats with 3 treatments, ie treatment group I smeared cream base (P1), treatment group II smeared 0.1% sulfadiazine cream (P2) and treatment group III smeared jatropha curcas 10% (P3). The result of ANAVA test of treatment I, treatment II and treatment III had significant effect (P 0,05) on fibroblast cells but each treatment group on collagen density level showed significant effect (P 0.01). Duncan test results on fibroblasts, P3 was significantly different (P 0.05) with P2 and P3, whereas the results on P3 collagen density were significantly different (P 0.01) with P2 and P1. The conclusion that 10% jatropha gum cream for 10 days can decrease the number of fibroblast cells and increase the amount of collagen thus accelerate the process of maturation phase of healing of mice leather injuries.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menghitung jumlah sel Goblet pada setiap 1000 sel absortif usus halus ayam kampung yang terinfeksi Ascaridia galli secara alami. Penelitian ini menggunakan 10 usus halus ayam kampung yang didapat dari pasar di Banda Aceh. Usus halus ayam kampung diukur kemudian dibagi menjadi tiga bagian (duodenum, jejunum, dan ileum). Kemudian masing-masing bagian usus dibelah dan dihitung jumlah cacing Ascaridia galli. Masing-masing bagian usus tersebut dipotong sepanjang 2 cm, lalu ditempelkan di kertas karton. Kemudian dibuat preparat histopatologis dengan pewarnaan hematoksilin dan eosin. Parameter dalam penelitian ini adalah jumlah sel Goblet pada setiap 1000 sel absortif duodenum, jejenum, dan ileum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah sel Goblet pada setiap 1000 sel absorbtif usus halus yang terinfeksi Ascaridia galli dengan infeksi ringan, sedang, dan berat secara berturut-turut adalah 465, 480, dan 484. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin banyak jumlah infeksi Ascaridia galli di duodenum, jejenum, dan ileum maka semakin meningkat proliferasi sel Goblet.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find an alternative method to prevent the conflict between the orangutan and human with the utilization of audio recording as biofence. The location of this study was in Leuser National Park on Bukit Lawang, Langkat, North Sumatra using 16 orangutans as the subject of this study. The method used in this study was a simulation and playback experiment which were using long call, spontaneous call, predator voice, and siren sound in the audio recording of non-alpha orangutans. The respond was observed using binocular and recorded using camera recorder. The data obtained were analyzed using Krustal Wallist test. The result showed that 87% of orangutan showed an interest in the attractor, on the other hand, 13% showed disinterest to the attractor. The facial expression shown by orangutan was fear, submission, aggression, and worry. The statistical analyzing result showed that long call and the spontaneous call was very significant (P0.01), while the predator and siren voice were insignificant (P0.05). The result can be concluded that long call and spontaneous calls showing the effective result to the alteration of territorial behavior on orangutan and have a potential as a biofence that is used as an alternative method to prevent the conflict between orangutan and human.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara lesi makroskopis dengan keberadaan mikroba pada hati ayam broiler. Sampel ayam broiler diperoleh di pasar Lambaro Aceh Besar dengan memilih lima hati ayam normal dan lima hati ayam yang mengalami lesi untuk dilakukan uji mikrobiologis. Hati diambil seberat 25 g, kemudian dilakukan stomaker untuk mendapatkan ekstrak pengencerannya. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji mikrobiologis, pengamatan dilakukan selama 24 jam dengan menghitung koloni per cawan petri. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan sampel hati ayam normal memiliki koloni masing-masing sebanyakn Sn21 (6,5x1022), x Sn2 (2,3x103), Sn3 (1,3x103), Sn4 (1,5x103), dan Sn5 (2,3x102) Cfu/ml, sedangkan sampel hati yang mengalami lesi memiliki koloni masing-masing sebanyak SL1  (3,1x104), SL2 (1,8x106), SL3 (2,7x105), SL4(4,5x106), dan SL5 (1,2x107 )Cfu/ml. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan disimpulkan bahwa hati yang mengalami lesi cenderung memiliki jumlah mikroba yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan hati yang normal.

Abstract

 This research aims to know the testicular histopathology of mice that have been exposed to cigarette smoke and given red watermelon extract dosage 22 mg and 44 mg. Experimental research using completely random design (RAL) with 4 group treatments. The negative control group (KN). The positive control group (KP) which have been exposed to cigarette smoke. Treatment group 1 (K1) which have been exposed to cigarette smoke and given the red watermelon extract 22 mg. Treatment group 2 (K2) which have been exposed to cigarette smoke and given the red watermelon extract 44 mg. Exposed to cigarette smoke conducted in the morning for an hour to burn one cigarette and red watermelon extract given in the afternoon. This was done for 30 days. On day 31, mice were sacrificed and their testis were taken to weighed and made histology slide. The data were analyzed using ANOVA in one direction and continued with Duncan. The results of this research showed that the extract of red watermelon for 30 days looks a highly significant effect (P 0.05) to the diameter of the seminiferous tubules, the number of spermatogonia cells, primary spermatocytes cells, spermatid cells. While on the weight of the testes showed no real effect (P 0.05). Red watermelon extract dosage 22 mg dan 44 mg of the mice exposed cigarette smoke can prevent cell damage in mice testis.

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the histopathological changes of chicken small intestines that were naturally infected by Ascaridia galli. Ten intestines were obtained from wet market in Banda Aceh then measured in length and divided into three sections: duodenum, jejunum and ileum, of which histologic slides were made. The number of Ascaridia galli founded in the lumen and ingesta were counted. Parameter picture of histopathologycal changes were scored. Results were analyzed descriptively. Duodenum, jejunum and ileum infected by Ascaridia galli showed hyperemia, hemorrhage, desquamation, inflamatory cell infiltration, histopathological changes of villi represented by desquamation, hyperplasia and fusion. Damage level of the small intestine chicken was largely determined by the number of infecting Ascaridia galli. It was concluded that the more number of Ascaridia galli that infect chickens, the more damage occurred in the small intestine of chicken.Key words: intestine, chicken, Ascaridia galli

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determined effect of kemangi leaves extract on level of doses to changes of microcsopic structure of broiler thymus which infected by Escherichia coli (E. coli). This study used 15 DOC that raised for 34 days. Broiler divided into 5 treatment group with 3 repetition. Negative control (A0) given standard feed, positive control (A1) given standard feed and infected with E.coli. Group A2, A3, and A4 given standard feed and infected with E. coli, added with kemangi leaves extract in concentration of 2,5%, 3,5%, and 4,5%. E. coli infected through intra peritonium as much of 0,25 ml on 15th days. Kemangi leaves extract were given from 7th days to 34th days. Observation on A1 showed many empty room. A2 and A3 showed a bit repairement on thymus microscopic structure. In A4 thymus showed approaching normal appearance as in A0. In conclusion, kemangi leaves extract capable to repair microscopic structure of broiler thymus which infected with E. coli. Kemangi leaves administration at 4,5% dose had a better effectivity rather than dose of 2,5% and 3,5%.

Abstract

This study aimed to observe parasitemia of DDY white mice infected with T. evansi of Pidie and Pemalang isolates obtained from Balai Besar Penelitian Veteriner (BBPV) Bogor. Twelve DDY mice were divided into 3 groups, each group consisted of 4 mice. Mice in the first group were not treated with any treatment. The second group was inoculated with 104 T. evansi Pidie isolate and the third group was inoculated with 104 T. evansi of Pemalang isolate. Mice blood were collected every two days from tail vein for parasitemia examination. Parasitemia examination was conducted until all mice die. The results indicate that there was difference in parasitemia level between the two isolates. Parasitemia of mice infected with Pidie isolate characterized by rapid rise of parasitemia in blood (107-108/mL of blood) in a short time (2-4 days) since first parasitemia was detected and followed by death at day 4. While the parasitemia of mice infected with Pemalang isolate increased in the blood (108-109/mL of blood) on day 4 and maintained for a few more days and then fluctuated for a few more days before the animal died.Key words: Trypanosoma evansi, parasitemia, Pidie isolate, Pemalang isolate

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the histopathological finding of rat (Rattus novergicus) spleen infected with Trypanosoma evansi and treated with willow bark (Salix tetrasperma Roxb) extract.This research used 25 male rats divided into four treatment groups and fed ad libitum. Group 0 (K0) was control group, group I (K1) was infected with 103/0.3 ml. T. evansi, group II (K2), III (K3), and IV (K4) were infected with103/0.3 ml T. evansi and treated with willow bark extract 30, 45, and 60 mg/kg bw, respectively. All groups were treated for 3 consecutive days orally using a stomach tube. On day four, rats were euthanized using chloroform and necropsied, then spleen were collected for histophatological examination. The results showed that all spleen on group K1, K2, K3, and K4 showed hyperplasia of white pulp, hemosiderin, and necrosis with different severity levels compared to normal spleen structure. In conclusion, the administration of willow bark extract at the dose of 30 mg/kg bw has a potency to prevent spleen from T. evansi infection. However, the higher the dose of willow bark extract the higher the level of spleen damage.Key words: spleen, T. evansi, willow bark extract

Abstract

A total of 12 mice were divided into 3 treatment groups. Group 1 (K1) without any treatment, group 2 (K2) was inoculated with 104 T. evansi Pidie isolate, and group 3 (K3) was inoculated with 104 T. evansi Pemalang isolate. Parasitemia examination was carried out every two days and the level of parasitemia was observed as well. Parasitemia examination was conducted until all mice died. Parasitemia of mice infected with Pidie isolate was characterized by rapid rise of parasitemia in blood (107-108/mL of blood) in a short time (2-4 days) since first parasitemia was detected and followed by death at day 4. The parasitemia of mice infected with Pemalang isolate increased in the blood (108-109/mL of blood) on day 4 and maintained for a few more days and then fluctuated for a few more days before the animal was dead.
