Abstract

Background: Efforts to accelerate stunting reduction involve specific and sensitive nutrition interventions. School adolescent girls are the target group in reducing stunting through anemia prevention. Iron folic acid (IFA) supplementation program is the specific nutrition intervention to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. Objectives: This research aims to study the characteristics of students who received the IFA supplementation program. Methods: Research design was a cross sectional that involved 123 students from 12 public high schools in Cianjur District, West Java Province. Student’s characteristics consist of knowledge on anemia and their adherence on IFA supplementation program. Data collection is carried out by self-administering questionnaires monitored by enumerator. Data is performed by using mean ± SD and n (%). Results: Student’s knowledge on anemia mostly (61.8%) were categorized as low, as 30.9% were moderate, and only 7.3% were high. Students (44.7%) knew how to detect anemia is by measuring blood hemoglobin levels. As of 59.3% and 51.2% students knew the main causes of anemia are inadequate iron intake and blood loss during menstruation. Approximately 60-80% students recognized the common symptoms and sign of anemia. Most students (76.8%) have received IFA on a weekly basis and 41.2% students acknowledge their adherence in the IFA consumption with aim to prevent anemia (85.1%), the rest 23.4% and 14.9% due to the advice by the teachers and health officers. Students who have no adherence were due to their fear on the side effects, the tablet taste, forgetfulness, and feeling healthy. Conclusions: Iron folic acid supplementation program have been conducted and well targeted, however, student’s understanding on the objectives, benefit, and their adherence is needed to be gained.

Abstract

Background: Traditional food is the most potent food to develop and is an essential component in intervention strategy for increasing toddler daily consumption. Traditional food contributes to micro-nutrition and protein, which are needed for toddler growth. Objectives: This research aimed to identify traditional food and toddlers' traditional food consumption in coastal families in three ethnicity in Bengkulu. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional design. Samples were mothers as food givers in the family, and the analysis unit was the toddler, in a total of 115, picked randomly from 137 households with 12-59 months old toddlers. Data was collected using quantitative and qualitative techniques, in-depth interviews, and food recall forms. Traditional food identification comes from FFQ (Food Frequency Questionnaire). Consumption of toddler fisherman family data that had been collected and compared with RDA 2019. Analyses were done by formulating the results from the in-depth interview and uni variate analysis.  Results: Traditional food contribution to fisherman's toddler contained 19.34% energy, 40.86% protein, 17.65% fat, 17.65% carbohydrate, 16,3% PUFA fat acid, and 13.8% MUFA. Many different traditional foods often consumed by Melayu, Serawai, and Minang ethics in coastal families could be classified as fish, vegetables, and snacks. Conclusions: Traditional food contribution could fulfill nutritional needs of energy and macro-nutrients ranging from 17-41%. We must increase traditional food consumption in coastal families by varying processing so that each ethnicity's distinctive taste in traditional food can be maintained.

Abstract

The validation of the nutritional literacy questionnaire with a broader concept has never been published in Indonesia. This study aims to describe the validation of a nutritional literacy questionnaire (Nulit) in adolescents in post-disaster areas. Content validation was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively. They involve nine panellists by calculating the content validity index (CVI) and multi-rater kappa statistics. Face validation involved ten adolescents living with their mothers in Palu during the 2018 natural disaster. The face validation, item validity, and reliability were assessed by the impact score, the correlation score of each item with the total score, and the value of Cronbach's Coefficient Alpha. The results found that the I-CVI on all items was between 0,78 - 1, which is considered very good. The validation of the questionnaire display found the statement items to be essential and appropriate in the daily life of adolescents, and the impact factor value was 3,9 - 4,3. A total of 21 items are valid; the Cronbach's alpha value is FNL= 0,73, INL= 0,70 and CNL= 0,71. In conclusion, the Nulit Questionnaire is valid and reliable for measuring nutritional literacy in adolescents in post-disaster areas.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak etanol daun pegagan terhadap gambaran darah dan peningkatan fungsi kognitif pada tikus. Penelitian ini menggunakan 16 ekor tikus Wistar jantan, dibagi secara acak ke dalam 4 kelompok dan masing-masing diberi ekstrak etanol daun pegagan setiap hari dengan level 0, 100, 300, dan 600 mg ekstrak/kg bobot badan selama 8 minggu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak pada level 300 mg/kg bobot badan meningkatkan nilai packed cell volume (PCV), sel darah merah (SDM), dan nilai hemoglobin (Hb). Pengamatan aktivitas pada kelompok dengan level 300 dan 600 mg/kg bobot badan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (P0,05). Pemberian ekstrak etanol daun pegagan juga berperan dalam meningkatkan keberhasilan pengenalan lorong target. Hasil di atas mengindikasikan dengan kuat bahwa ekstrak pegagan mempunyai peran penting dalam perbaikan profil hematologi dan meningkatkan fungsi kognitif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat status hiperurisemia di pedesaan. Metode penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara cross-sectional studi yang dilakukan di pedesaan Kabupaten Cianjur. Pemilihan subjek penelitian dengan teknik random sampling dan diperoleh 116 subjek terpilih yang berpartisipasi dalam penelitian. Data penelitian yang dikumpulkan adalah pengetahuan terkait asam urat, asupan purin subjek dengan menggunakan kuesioner dengan teknik wawancara. Data status gizi berupa Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dikumpulkan melalui berat badan (kg) dan tinggi badan (m2) dikumpulkan melalui pengukuran antropomteri gizi serta serta data kadar asam urat sampel diperoleh melalui pengambilan darah vena subjek. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa subjek dengan IMT normal sebanyak 58,6% kadar asam urat subjek menunjukan normal ( 500 mg) sedangkan rata-rata pengetahuan asam urat subjek terkategorikan rendah ( 60 ). Asupan purin subjek tergolong rendah. Hasil uji hubungan menunjukkan bahwa kejadian hiperurisemia berhubungan signifikan dengan tingkat asupan purin subjek. Hasil uji regresi berdasarkan jenis kelamin, pada pria dengan rentang usia dewasa menengah menunjukkan bahwa asupan purin merupakan faktor risiko hiperurisemia p = 0.001 (OR = 24,5; 95% CI: 1.80-332.46). Kata kunci: asupan purin, hiperurisemia, pengetahuan gizi, status gizi.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh informasi atau gambaran perilaku gizi anak usia sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini merupakan tahap awal dan merupakan penelitian observasional dengan desain studi potong lintang (cross-sectional study) yang berlokasi di tujuh sekolah di Kota Bandung. Subjek yang menjadi sampel penelitian sebanyak 300 orang berasal dari 7 sekolah negeri di Kota Bandung. Kriteria inklusi subjek adalah siswa kelas 5 dan bersedia menjadi subjek penelitian. Pemilihan subjek dengan teknik random sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui pengisian kuesioner yang terdiri atas pengetahuan gizi, sikap gizi dan praktik gizi subjek dengan teknik wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa status gizi subjek sebagian besar berada pada kategori normal. Persentase anak overweight adalah 21.7% dan obes 19.7%. Pengetahuan gizi subjek, lebih dari setengah jumlah subjek memiliki pengetahuan gizi baik (59.3%), hasil uji ANOVA menunjukkan tidak berbeda nyata antara pengetahuan gizi dari setiap kategori status gizi. Sikap gizi subjek pada umumnya (82.7%) memiliki sikap yang positif. Uji hubungan antar sikap gizi dan pengetahuan gizi memiliki hubungan positif dengan nilai (r=0.215; p=0.000). Praktik gizi subjek termasuk tindakan yang diamati dari subjek yang dapat mempengaruhi perilaku gizi subjek. Praktik gizi subjek menunjukkan kategori sedang (51.7%). Hasil uji ANOVA dan hasil uji hubungan menunjukkan pengetahuan gizi dan praktik gizi subjek tidak berbeda nyata dan tidak berhubungan.Kata kunci : Anak usia sekolah dasar, perilaku gizi, pengetahuan gizi, praktik gizi, sikap gizi

Abstract

Obesitas yang dialami oleh tenaga kerja akan berdampak terhadap penurunan produktivitas sehingga profit perusahaan dapat berkurang. Oleh karena itu perlu suatu analisis penyebab langsung kejadian obesitas yang dialami oleh pekerja, terutama pekerja wanita. Dikarenakan data menunjukkan prevalensi pekerja wanita cenderung meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah cross sectional study. Jumlah subjek sebanyak 59 orang. Penelitian dilakukan bulan September 2013 di PT. Citra Abadi Sejati Kota Bogor. Data yang dikumpulkan antara lain status gizi, karakteristik sosio ekonomi, kebiasaan konsumsi makanan dan minuman, serta aktivitas fisik. Data diolah dengan menggunakan SPSS 20.0 Bivariate data dianalisis menggunakan Chi-Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kejadian obesitas yang ditemukan pada subjek sebesar 42.4%. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kebiasaan konsumsi buah dan sayur, makanan berlemak serta minuman berkalori dengan kejadian obesitas (p<0.05). Kebiasaan konsumsi makanan dan minuman seperti rendahnya konsumsi buah dan sayur, tingginya konsumsi makanan berlemak (gorengan) serta seringnya mengonsumsi minuman berkalori, merupakan penyebab terjadinya obesitas pada pekerja garmen wanita di PT. Abstract

Inappropriate breastfeeding, complementary feeding and repeated infections are direct causes of stunting in children under two years of age.  The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between history of breastfeeding and history of infection with stunting in children living in rural areas who were between the ages of 6 and 24 months old. The research was conducted using a case control study, carried out in the working area of Puring Health Center in 2021 using a sample of 43 children aged 6-24 months taken by simple random sampling. The data were gathered through anthropometric measurements of child’s body length and mother’s height, questionnaire interviews for history of breastfeeding and infection, and the examination of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book. The chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were utilized in the analysis that was carried out.  The final results suggested that stunting was caused by gender (p=  0,032), mothers’s height (p= 0,032), and food parenting pattern aged 6-8 months (p= 0,026). Food parenting pattern aged 6-8 months was the most dominant factor associated with stunting (p=0,026 AOR 5,17 95% CI:1,22-21,95). In conclusion, gender, mother’s height, and food parenting pattern aged 6-8 months were significantly associated with stunting.

Abstract

Backgrounds: More women experience gender inequality even though they play a significant role in household food security. Women have more limited access to education and employment opportunities, thus affecting economic autonomy and lower bargaining power within the household. Gender inequality experienced by women has an impact on household food insecurity. Objectives: To analyze differences in the eating habits of families and children under five and household food security among households with high and low gender equality. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in areas of low and high gender inequality in Indonesia. A total of 303 households with children under five participated in this study. Data collection included family characteristics, Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS), and families and children's eating habits. The Mann-Whitney difference test examined the differences between variables in two areas. Results: Food insecurity prevalence in low gender equality areas (moderately food insecure 45.6%, severe 23.8%), significant differences (p<0.05) within high gender equality areas (moderately food insecure 34.6%, severe 17.3%). Families in areas of high gender equality, more frequently eating three meals a day (p<0.001), eating together (p=0.003), husbands (p<0.001), and children (p<0.001), have a higher role as menu deciders. There were significant differences (p<0.05) in the eating habits of children under five in the two areas. Conclusions: Households in low gender equality areas are more food insecure and have low-income family eating habits than high gender equality areas. Therefore, special attention is needed from the government to improve gender equality through increased education and women's economic empowerment.

Abstract

The fat intake of pregnant mothers, especially palmitic acid, which is one of the main components of palm oil, may affect the weight and fat mass of newborns. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal palmitic acid intake and palmitic acid levels in maternal and cord blood with birth weight and infant fat mass. This study uses secondary data using a cross-sectional design, which is part of the main study of the BSEA and IPB University. The research was conducted from May to October 2018 at the Tanah Sareal Health Center and North Bogor Health Center. A total of 142 pregnant women were selected based on a single pregnancy and Hb level of >9 mg/dL. Exclusion criteria were the presence of congenital abnormalities or undergoing therapy for a particular disease. Data analysis was performed using the Pearson/Spearman correlation test. The results of the study showed no association between maternal palmitic acid intake and birth weight or infant fat mass (p> 0,05). Two approximate significant indicators were palmitic acid level in maternal blood with birth weight (p= 0,089), as well as palmitic acid level in cord blood with infant fat mass (p= 0,053). In conclusion, maternal palmitic acid intake and palmitic acid levels in maternal and cord blood did not affect birth weight or infant fat mass.
