Even so, the portrait of Islamic education can actually be described in various perspectives. For example, from the educational perspective of Naquib al-Attas. This study aims to explore the educational concept of Naquib Al Attas in terms of the meaning and purpose of education, curriculum and educational methods as well as the authority and role of the teacher. The research uses a descriptive approach. This is done to be able to reveal the concept of education in Naquib Al Attas' thought based on reading related books and articles. The results of this study indicate that the thoughts of Naquib Al Attas tend to be selectively reconstructive which seeks to present an integrated Islamic education system. While in the Al Attas Curriculum seeks to integrate Science (Fardhu Ain and Fardu Kifayah), so the method used is the cultivation of Adab (Faith-Science-Charity).

Abstract

This study is motivated by contemporary educational challenges, including the dehumanization of education, moral degradation among students, secular influences, and the criminalization of teachers, which have weakened the educational role of teachers. The study aims to describe the biography of Shaykh Muhammad bin Shalih al-Uthaymin, analyze his views on the role of teachers in Islamic education, and examine their relevance to contemporary education. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research. Primary data were obtained from the works of Shaykh al-Uthaymin, while secondary data were collected from books, journals, and related scholarly sources. Data were gathered through documentation and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that teachers, according to al-Uthaymin, are not merely transmitters of knowledge but also spiritual guides, moral educators, and role models. Teachers are expected to demonstrate sincerity, piety, professionalism, creativity, compassion, and responsibility for students’ intellectual, moral, and spiritual development. These concepts remain highly relevant to twenty-first-century education, particularly in strengthening character education, enhancing teacher professionalism, promoting student-centered learning, and fostering a humane and religious school culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of mosque-based education in Medan City during the period of 1980–2024 by examining the development of educational functions, types of programs, curriculum, and governance at Al-Musabbihin Mosque, Al-Muhajirin Bumi Asri Mosque, and Baiturrahman JIP-1 Mosque. The study uses a qualitative approach with a historical method through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were obtained through documentation, observation, and semi-structured interviews with mosque management/BKM, religious leaders, community leaders, educators, government officials, as well as participants or the community. The results of the study show that mosque-based education has transformed from basic religious activities, such as learning the Qur’an, religious studies, creed, fiqh, and morals, into more diverse non-formal education.  The educational development program includes religious study groups, child and youth guidance, family education, Islamic studies, guidance for converts, as well as social-religious activities. The curriculum also grows adaptively by including character building, moral strengthening, and social issues according to the needs of the congregation. From a management perspective, educational management has evolved from a simple pattern to a more organized and participatory system through the involvement of the Mosque Management Board, educators, religious leaders, community leaders, youth, and the congregation. This study shows that this transformation is a form of mosque adaptation to social changes and the religious needs of urban communities, while also strengthening the mosque's position as a sustainable, community-based non-formal Islamic education institution.
