Abstract

The use of biochar for remediating heavy metal-polluted soils is still partial. Various methods of controlling soil pollution are currently being implemented by combining several methods. One of which is coating the biochar with humic acid to increase the effectiveness of nutrient uptake by plants. This study aimed to elucidate the effect of humic acid-coated biochar (HCB) on reducing Pb and Cu in the soil to improve plant growth. Treatments tested were combinations of two factors. The first factor was the dose of HCB, namely D0 = control (without HCB), D1 = 15 t HCB     ha-1, D2 = 30 t HCB ha-1, and D3 = 45 t HCB ha-1. The second factor was the type of plants, namely spinach (P1), water spinach (P2) and mustard green (P3). Twelve treatments were arranged in a randomised block design with three replications. The parameters observed were plant height, plant leaf area, plant stem diameter, and plant fresh weight. The results showed that the best plant growth was achieved at a dose of 30 t HCB ha-1. The mustard green had the highest Pb uptake (0.025 g pot-1), and the lowest Pb uptake (0.014 g pot-1) was observed for water spinach. The highest Cu uptake (0.443 g pot-1) was observed in water spinach, followed by spinach (0.282 g pot-1) and mustard green (0.143 g pot-1). In general, the amount of Pb reduced by plants ranged from 40.04 to 87.28%, and the amount of Cu by plants ranged from 8.63 to 40.23%.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Tri Sedyo Manunggal Farmer Group in Wukirsari Village, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta faces challenges in managing agricultural land. The irrigation system is still done manually, while the source of electricity to drive the water pump still depends on PLN electricity and fuel. As a solution, an internet of things is needed that can monitor soil pH, humidity, temperature, and leaf color and can be accessed remotely. The irrigation system is automatic, and the power source is obtained from solar panels to drive the water pump to lift water from the well to the output pipe. Four solar panels are used, each panel has a power of 230 watts peak, a solar charge controller with a capacity of 50 amperes, two soil pH sensors, two humidity sensors, two temperature sensors, and two color sensors. The battery used is a 12-volt Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) type with a capacity of 100 Ah. A water pump with a capacity of 300 watts with a water discharge of 47 liters per minute can meet the water needs of 1 ha of agricultural land in about 3-4 hours. The maximum electrical power generated by solar panels under maximum sunlight conditions is 920 watts peak, with a maximum current of 11.79 amperes and a maximum voltage (Vmp) of 19.5 volts. Then the solar panel will charge the battery in an empty condition for about 90 minutes in 80% sunlight efficiency conditions.

Abstract

EVALUATION OF RADIATION DOSE RATE OF RSG-GAS REACTOR. The RSG-GAS reactor has been operated for 30 years. Since the nuclear reactor has been operated for a long time, aging process on its components may occur. One important parameter for maintaining the safety level of the RSG-GAS reactor is to maintain radiation exposure as low as possible, especially in the working area. The evaluation results should be able to demonstrate that the radiation exposure of the RSG-GAS is still safe for workers, communities and the surrounding environments. The purpose of this study is to evaluate radiation exposure in the working area to ensure that the operation of RSG-GAS is still safe for the next 10 years. The scope of this work is confirming the calculation results with the measured radiation dose in the RSG-GAS reactor working area. Measurement of radiation exposure is done by using the installed equipments at some points in the RSG-GAS working area and a portable radiation exposure measurement equipment. The calculations include performance of a modeling and analysis of dose rate distribution based on the composition and geometry data of RSG-GAS by using MCNP.  The analysis results show that the maximum dose rate at Level 0 m working area of RSG-GAS reactor is 3.0 mSv/h with a deviation of 6%, which is relatively close to the measurement value. The evaluation results show that the dose rate in RSG-GAS working area is below the limit value established by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency of Indonesia (BAPETEN) of 10 mSv/h (for the average effective dose of 20 mSv/year). Therefore, it is concluded that the dose rate in RSG-GAS working area is safe for personnel..Kata kunci: dose rates, RSG-GAS, radiation safety, MCNP.

Abstract

GAMMA DOSE RATE ANALYSIS IN BIOLOGICAL SHIELDING OF HTGR-10 MWth PEBBLE BED REACTOR. HTGR-10 MWth is a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. The fuel and moderator are pebble shaped with a radius of 3 cm. One fuel pebble consists of thousands of UO2 kernels with a density of 10.4 gram/cc and the enrichment rate of 17%. The core of HTGR-10 MWth is the center of origin of neutrons and gamma radiation resulting from the interaction of neutrons with pebble fuel, moderator and biological shield. The various types of radiations generated from such nuclear reactions should be monitored to ensure the safety of radiation workers. This research was conducted using MCNP-6 Program package with the aim to calculate and analyze gamma radiation dose in biological shield of HTGR-10 MWth. In this study, the biological shield is divided into 10 equal segments. The first step of the research is to benchmark the created program against the critical height of HTR-10. The results of the benchmarking show an error rate of ± 1.1327%, while the critical core height of HTGR 10 MWth for the ratio of pebble fuel and pebble moderator (F:M) of 52: 48 occurs at a height of 134 cm. The rate of gamma dose at the core is 3.0052E + 05 mSv/hr. On the biological shield made of regular concrete with a density of 2.3 grams/cc, the rate of gamma dose decreases according to an equation y = 0.0042 e-0.03x. Referring to Perka Bapeten no 4 of 2013, the safe limits for workers and radiation protection officers will be achieved if the minimum thickness of biological shield is 115 cm with gamma dose rate of 0 mSv/hour.Keywords: Gamma dose rate, HTGR 10 MWth, biological shield, pebble
