Abstract

Phytoremediation has been intensively studied due its costs effectiveness and environmentally sound. Studies of heavy metal pollution phytoremediation has been done in develop countries, but still limited in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the potential of wild plant species Eleusine indica L. and Sonchus arvensis L. as an agent of phytoremediation on Cd-contaminated soil. This study was done descriptively in Pujon, Malang, Indonesia, to test the ability of two species of wild plants E. indica and S. arvensis in absorbing Cd. Along this research, plant growth and the concentration of Cd in roots, stems and leaves, was monitored. Plant growth was measured every week for three months. The plant roots, stems, and leaves collected separately, then analyzed its Cd levels. The results showed that both of two species of wild plants grew well on soil contaminated Cd. Plant roots can accumulate higher Cd than the stem part. In addition, E indica has the ability to accumulate Cd higher than S. arvensis, i.e. 57.11% and 35.84%, respectively

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination was an environmental and human health problem all over the world. Cadmium is the most hazardous heavy metals due to its high mobility and toxicity at low concentrations. Lead (Pb) also belongs to the hazard element caused by its prolonged persistence in the soil. This study aimed to develop the remediation techniques on polluted land, i.e. a combination of biochar and indigenous plant. The biochar was produced by slow pyrolysis method. This experiment was conducted at the farmland at Sumber Brantas, Malang, East Java. We used rice husk and tobacco waste biochar, and Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn and Rorippa sylvestris (L.) Bess. as remediator plants. The results showed that rice husk biochar had a significant effect on pH value and potassium content (p = 0.0001; p=0.0004). On the contrary, the soil nitrogen content, soil organic-C content, and soil cation exchange capacity applied with tobacco waste biochar application were higher than that applied with rice husk biochar (p = 0.03; p=0.00001; p = 0.00001). The improvement of soil characteristics increased the growth of Eleusine indica and Rorippa sylvestris as indicated by the plant height and biomass. The addition of biochar could promote the growth of remediator plant and enhanced the accumulation of Pb and Cd in the plants. Mixtures of rice husk biochar and tobacco waste biochar caused Eleusine indica more effectively absorbed heavy metals than Rorippa sylvestris on all types of biochar treatments; Eleusine indica absorbed Pb and Cd higher than Rorippa sylvestris as shown by Pb and Cd contents in the soil.

Abstract

Berbagai permasalahan pertanian, baik permasalahan petani, kelompok tani maupun gabungan kelompok tani telah menuntut adanya campur tangan pemerintah khususnya dalam pemberian bantuan modal. Pemerintah mengeluarkan program Penguatan Lembaga Distribusi Pangan Masyarakat (P-LDPM). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat peran serta kelompok tani penerima kegiatan P-LPDM dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi terhadap efektivitas kelompok tani dalam menunjang stabilitas harga gabah pada kegiatan LDPM. Responden penelitian ditetapkan sebesar 100 petani, yang dipilih secara acak. Analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman petani, luas lahan garapan petani, tenaga kerja dan bibit berpengaruh positif terhadap produksi padi yang artinya apabila variabel-variabel tersebut semakin bertambah maka produksi padi juga semakin meningkat. Variabel yang tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap produksi padi adalah pupuk ponska, pupuk lainnya dan pestisida. Pupuk ini hanya digunakan oleh sebagian petani.

Abstract

Ultisol is the main type of land in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Papua and Sulawesi, with an area of almost 45.8 million ha or 25% of the land area of Indonesia. Ultisol has a relatively high acidity (average pH 4.5), high Al saturation, reaching 60%. The efforts to increase the fertility of ultisol soils such as the addition of organic materials such as Empty Oil Palm Bunches (OPEFB) and CFA (Coal Fly Ash) or Coal Fly Ash (CFA) improve the physical properties of Ultisol soil. Use of CFA that exceeds the limit can cause pollution especially copper (Cu) and lead (Pb). One way to recover soil from heavy metal contaminants with Phytoremediation technology, mustard (Brassica juncea L.) is one of the plants that easily absorb heavy metals so that it can be used as a Phytoremediation agent. The aims of this research to determine the use of CFA and OPEFB to fix up the ultisol soil and heavy metal content absorbed by plants. This study used Completely Randomized Design with 3 replications. The results showed that using of CFA and OPEFB can increase the available P so that it can increase the growth of mustard plants and absorption of heavy metals. By using the dozes of 54.54g CFA and 18.18g OPEFB (C3K1) can increase P- available at 181.67 m kg-1 . The uptake of heavy metals Cu and Pb in mustard plants is very high. The highest uptake in Cu reached 192.03 mg kg-1 , whereas in Pb it was 80 mg kg-1 . This number is still very high, so it is dangerous if consumed.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to elucidate the possible phytoremediation of liquid waste of tapioca industry using Eichhornia crassipes prior its usage for watering maize grown on an Entisol of Malang. Tapioca liquid waste was mixed with pure water at various concentrations and then Eichhornia crassipes was grown on a water bath filled with the mixture. After twenty eight days, the mixture of tapioca liquid waste and pure water was analyzed for BOD, BOD, COD, DO, TSS, CN, total N, and total P, prior to its usage for watering maize grown on a pot filled with an Entisol. Results of this study showed that during twenty eight days Eichhornia crassipes grown on 25% tapioca liquid waste was capable to reduce BOD, COD, and CN concentrations of the liquid waste and to increase pH of the the mixture of liquid and pure water. This has resulted in a significant increase of maize growth

Abstract

Growth and development of white oyster mushroom are influenced by the mushroom seeds, planting substrate, environmental conditions, and media materials. A common type of media used is sawdust mushroom growers. Bagasse is a waste of sugar production as the highest cause of pollution (35%) but contains organic matter, minerals, crude fiber, crude protein and essential nutrients needed for growing oyster mushrooms. It is therefore necessary to study with the aim to determine the effect of bagasse as the mixed media production and quality of white oyster mushrooms. The experiment was conducted at PT Endang Mushroom, Tlogomas village, Lowok waru district, Malang city started from November until April 2011. The research used Completely Randomized Design with bagasse single-dose factor i.e. without bagasse/control (P0), 10% of bagasse (P1), 20% of bagasse (P2), 30% of bagasse (P3), and 40% of bagasse (P4). The observations made on the variables: time of fruit body appears, stalk length, stalk diameter, diameter of the hood, the number and weight of the wet weight of fruit. The results concluded that the use of bagasse as the mixture of sawdust medium effected on the growth of white oyster mushrooms. The addition of 40% bagasse was capable of producing fruit bodies appear as the fastest (28 days), the largest stem diameter (2.24 cm), the largest cap diameter (8.95 cm), the highest number of fruit (37.80 fruits) and wet weight reached 444.20 grams, of fruit bodies and wet weights did not differ erent as much as 30 % of bagasse

Abstract

ABSTRAK Selama ini petani menanam pisang hanya mengandalkan bibit dari anakan yang tumbuh dari pangkal pisang. Dampaknya produk pisang selalu tidak optimal. Permasalahan ini merupakan masalah serius, sehingga perlu dicari alternative solusi. Salah satusolusi yang dapat memperkecil permasalahan bibit pisang adalah dengan menggunakan biochar dan Mikro Organisme Lokal (MOL) dari bonggol pisang. Kedua bahan ini merupakn potensi sumberdaya alam yang selama ini masih belum banyak dimanfaatkan untuk memperbaiki mutu bibit pisang. Kombinasi biochar dan MOL bonggol pisang diharapkan mampu menghasilkan bibit tanaman pisang yang berkualitas baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis biochar dan MOL bonggol pisang yang tepat untuk pembibitan pisang. Hasil analisis sidik ragam menunjukkan tidak adanya perbedaan yang siginifikan pada kombinasi perlakuan pemberian biochar dan MOL bonggol pisang (B) dengan umur anakan bonggol pisang (P) pada semua parameter pengamatan. Perlakuan anakan bonggol pisang terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan anakan bonggol umur dewasa (P2) karena berpengaruh hampir pada semua parameter yang diamati. Perlakuan pemberian biochar dan MOL bonggol pisang (B) pada semua parameter tidak berbeda nyata, namun secara terpisah perlakuan pemberian tanah + MOL 200 cc/L.air (B5) menunjukan perbedaan pertumbuhan yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lain ABSTRACT During this time farmers planted bananas only relying on seedlings from saplings growing from the base of bananas. The impact of banana products is always not optimal. This issue is a serious problem, so it needs to look for alternative solutions. One of the solution that can minimize the problem of banana seedlings is to use biochar and local micro organism (MOL) from banana excrescence. These two materials are the potential of natural resources that have not been widely utilized to improve the quality of banana seedlings. Combination of biochar and MOL banana excrescence are expected to produce good quality banana crop seeds. This research aims to obtain a dose of biochar and MOL proper of banana excrescence for breeding bananas. The results analysis of variance showed that the combination treatment of biochar and MOL Banana excrescence (B) not significantly affect to the Age of banana seedlings (P) on all observation parameters. The best banana seedlings treatment is found in the treatment of Adult age (P2) saplings because it affects almost all the observed parameters. The treatment of biochar and MOL of Banana excrescence (B) on all parameters are not significantly different, but separately the soil + MOL 200 cc/L. (B5) shows a better in growth compared to other treatments

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui potensi tanaman lulangan (Eleusine indica L.) sebagai agen fitoremediasi Cd. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Desa Sumber Brantas Kota Batu. Sebelum penanaman tanaman remediator, tanah terlebih dulu dianalisis untuk mengetahui tingkat kesuburan tanah dan kandungan logam berat Cd. Analisis kimia tanah meliputi: pH (H2O), C-organik (Walkley dan Black), N-total (Kjeldahl), (Walkey & Black), N (Kjedahl), P total (olsen), K total, KTK (Amonium Acetat pH 7,0). Logam berat yang dianalisa adalah Cd dengan menggunakan AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrometry). Percobaan menggunakan lulangan. Pengamatan pertumbuhan tanaman dilakukan setiap minggu sampai tanaman berumur tiga bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tanah di lokasi penelitian memiliki tingkat kesuburan yang rendah, yaitu N (0,11 %), P (0,64 mgkg-1) dan K (0,09 me/100g). Cemaran logam berat Cd yang terdeteksi sebesar 2,39 mg kg-1. Lulangan yang ditanam sebagai agen fitoremediasi mampu tumbuh baik pada tanah yang tercemar Cd. Hasil analisis jaringan tanaman menunjukan bahwa akumulasi Cd tertinggi terdapat pada akar, dibandingkan pada bagian atas tanaman. Lulangan mengakumulasi Cd serta mampu mereduksi Cd di tanah sebesar 57,11%.

Abstract

Soil degradation will affect the availability of soil nutrients. Microbes role was important in supplying soil nutrient. How is microbes supply the nutrients can be learned through the metagenome technique. Metagenome is one of the molecular techniques that can identify microbial communities from soil samples that are used quickly and precisely. Through the metagenome technique, not only information about the identity of microbial species can be obtained, but also the enzymes produced, which will affect the soil nutrients availability. This study aims to detect and identify the impact of land cover types on microbial types. Soil samples were taken under agricultural land (LP) and agroforestry (AF). Each type of land cover was taken at 4 (four) different locations. The method used in this research is a molecular-based species identification method through metagenome analysis. This study showed that there are variations in microbial species in various types of land cover. This information is important for sustainable agricultural management in the future. Our study showed that on all of the land cover types, Proteobacteria were the most abundant phylum in all of the land cover patterns. Among them, s_Sphingomonas_melonis; f_Sphingomonadaceae; g_Sphingomonas; c_Alphaproteobacteria; p_Proteobacteria; and o_Sphingomonadales were the most abundant in the LP groups, while p_Acidobacteria and c_Deltaproteobacteria were the most abundant in AF groups. This composition of soil metagenomic was associated with the soil physic-chemical properties, especially pH and soil organic matter.

Perbaikan produktivitas tanah untuk meningkatkan produksi kunyit dan kadar kurkumin dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara. Salah satunya adalah penggunaan sabut kelapa dan pupuk nitrogen. Penggunaan sabut kelapa dalam bentuk cair diyakini mampu meningkatkan kadar kalium dalam tanah. Begitu juga ketersediaan nitrogen yang cukup akan mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman sehingga kadar kurkumin akan meningkat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis Molagen yang tepat untuk pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman kunyit, serta kadar kurkumin. Kadar kurkumin dianalisis dengan spektrometer. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelurahan Tlogomas kota Malang pada ketinggian ± 450 m dpl. Penelitian ini  menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan dua faktor dan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama dosis Molagen  (M) : M0 = Kontrol (tanpa Molagen), M1 = Molagen 100 ml/tanaman, M2 = Molagen 200 ml/tanaman, M3 = Molagen 300 ml/tanaman, M4 = Molagen 500 ml/tanaman. Faktor kedua, dosis pupuk Urea (U) : U1 = Dosis Urea 100 kg/ha, U2 = Dosis Urea 200 kg/ha, U3 = Dosis Urea 300 kg/ha. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penggunaan Molagen dan berbagai dosis urea mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman, luas daun, berat brangkasan dan bobot rimpang. Kadar kurkumin yang diperoleh rata-rata antara 2,2 – 2,7%.
