Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus type 2 reveals resistance insulin. Inadequate magnesium consumption has been reported to promote insulin resistance. The potential role of magnesium in Diabetes Mellitus is improving insulin sensitivity. Previous studies indicated that there is an inverse correlation between magnesium intakes and the incidence of type 2 Diabetes. This study aimed to analyze the association between magnesium intake and fasting blood glucose levels in outpatients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Al Ihsan Hospital. Cross-sectional study in 46 participants was taken by purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted in June-July 2013 which included common data, exercise habits, nutritional status, energy intake, magnesium intake, protein intake, fiber intake and fasting blood glucose levels. This research showed that there was a significant association between magnesium intake and fasting blood glucose levels of patients (p < 0.001) with a correlation of moderate strength (r = -0.562), high magnesium intake was followed by a decrease in fasting blood glucose levels. It is then suggested that people with diabetes mellitus consume adequate amounts of magnesium and set a good diet and regular exercise as a step in the control of blood glucose levels.Pada Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 terjadi resistensi insulin, dimana salah satu faktor yang dapat menyebabkan resistensi insulin adalah kurangnya asupan magnesium. Peran potensial magnesium dalam penyakit Diabetes Melitus adalah memperbaiki sensitifitas insulin. Beberapa penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan terbalik antara asupan magnesium dengan kejadian Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara asupan magnesium dan kadar glukosa darah puasa pasien rawat jalan Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 di RSUD Al-Ihsan Provinsi Jawa Barat. Desain dalam penelitian ini adalah Cross Sectional dengan jumlah responden 46 orang yang diambil secara purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan bulan Juni-Juli tahun 2013 yang meliputi data umum, kebiasaan olahraga, status gizi, asupan energi, asupan magnesium, asupan protein, asupan serat dan data kadar glukosa darah puasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang bermakna antara asupan magnesium dan kadar glukosa darah puasa pasien (p < 0,001) dengan kekuatan korelasi sedang (r = -0,562), semakin tinggi asupan magnesium semakin rendah kadar glukosa darah puasa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, disarankan agar para penderita Diabetes Melitus mengkonsumsi magnesium dalam jumlah cukup serta mengatur pola makan yang baik dan berolahraga secara teratur sebagai langkah dalam pengendalian kadar glukosa darah.

Abstract

Abstrak Pola makan vegetarian yang tidak seimbang dapat menyebabkan defisiensi kalsium. Pada vegetarian, asupan kalsium yang terutama berasal dari susu dapat digantikan dengan kalsium dari daun Turi melalui fortifikasi pada daging nabati. Penggunaan daun Turi dalam daging nabati belum pernah dilakukan. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan penelitian tentang substitusi tepung terigu dengan tepung daun Turi pada daging nabati untuk mengetahui pengaruhnya pada peningkatan mutu daging nabati yang meliputi kadar kalsium, kadar air, dan mutu organoleptik (warna, aroma, rasa, tekstur) daging nabati. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 6 pengulangan. Perlakuan substitusi tepung terigu dengan tepung daun Turi yang diterapkan adalah P0 (100%:0%),P1 (95%:5%), P2 (90%:10%), dan P3 (85%:15%). Variabel yang dinilai meliputi nilai gizi dan mutu organoleptik. Analisis data organoleptik menggunakan uji Kruskal Wallis dan Uji lanjut Mann Whitney sedangkan analisis data kalsium dan kadar air menggunakan One Way ANOVA dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penggunaan tepung daun Turi cenderung berpengaruh pada warna (p=0,050), berpengaruh nyata pada rasa (p=0,000), aroma (p=0,040), tekstur (p=0,032), kadar kalsium (p=0,000), dan pada kadar air (p=0,000). Hasil uji hedonik rangking menunjukkan P0 sebagai rangking tertinggi. P2 merupakan perlakuan terbaik dari variabel kadar kalsium dan kadar air. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa P2 sebagai perlakuan terbaik meningkatkan mutu daging nabati, yakni dengan menaikkan kadar kalsium menjadi 15,71 mg, menurunkan kadar air menjadi 37,16%, dan dari segi mutu organoleptik dapat diterima oleh panelis. The Vegetarian intake of calcium, mainly coming from milk can be replaced by calcium from Turi’s leaves through meat analogs fortification. As they were never used in meat analogs, it is necessary to study about wheat flour substitution with Turi’s leaves flour in meat analogs to determine the effect on meat analogs quality enhancement,  including calcium level, water level, and organoleptic quality (colour, taste, aroma, and texture) of meat analogs. This study method was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatment to substitute wheat flour with Turi’s leaves flour used the ratio of P0 (100%:0%), P1(95%:5%), P2 (90%:10%), and P3 (85%:15%). Variables assessed were  nutritional value and organoleptic quality. Organoleptic data was analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test and followed with Mann Withney test, while calcium and water level data was analyzed using One Way ANOVA test and was followed with Duncan test. The result showed that Turi leaves flour was likely to affect organoleptic color quality (p=0,050) as it showed a significant effect on flavor (p=0,000), aroma (p=0,040), texture (p=0,032), calcium level (0,000) and water level (0,000). A test result of hedonic rank shows that P0 occupied the highest ranking. The result of De Garmo test shows that P2 is the best treatment from calcium level variable and waterlevel. It could be concluded that P2 is the best treatment for meat analogs quality enhancement  by increasing calcium level to 15,71 mg, reducing water levels to 37,16%, and was accepted by consumer from its organoleptic quality. Abstract

This paper discusses determinant factors of nutrition of pregnant women. Nutrition problems is a complex issue that is influenced by various factors, but from some intensive programs implemented, it have shown quite encouraging results such as reducing infant and under-five mortality, maternal mortality, and increasing life expectancy. The issue of maternal nutrition has broad implications, both for the mother and fetus. Some research shows a strong correlation between anemia during pregnancy and fetal death, abortion, birth defects, low birth weight, decreased iron stores in children or children born in nutritional anemia. This condition causes the rate of prenatal mortality is still high, including mother’s mortality and morbidity. In addition, the impact may cause bleeding during giving a birth. Bleeding at childbirth is the leading cause (28%) of maternal deaths in Indonesia. Whereby, Indonesian government committed to combat maternal anemia by doing “public nutrition improvement” program with a target prevalence of anemia in the year 2009 by 30%.

Abstract

Penyakit DM tipe 2 pada perkembangannya dapat menimbulkan stres oksidatif yang mengakibatkan terjadinya perubahan aktivitas antioksidan endogen dan juga meningkatnya kerusakan biomolekul secara oksidatif. Kondisi ini menyebabkan penderita DM tipe 2 memerlukan asupan antioksidan eksogen dalam jumlah besar untuk menghambat kerusakan oksidatif di dalam tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara asupan makanan sumber antioksidan dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa pada penderita DM tipe 2 di Jawa Timur.  Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian cross sectional pada penderita DM tipe 2 di 4 Kota dan Kabupaten di Jawa Timur. Pengambilan sampel dengan cara purposive sampling, dengan jumlah  sampel sebanyak 160 responden. Makanan sumber antioksidan pada penelitian ini adalah makanan sumber vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E. Data asupan antioksidan diperoleh dari hasil dietary assessment SQ FFQ, sedangkan kadar glukosa darah diperoleh dari pemeriksaan laboratorium. Hasil analisis korelasi menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan antara asupan vitamin A (p = 0,185), vitamin C (p = 0,057), dan vitamin E (p = 0,211) dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan antara asupan makanan sumber antioksidan dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa  penderita DM tipe 2 di Jawa Timur. Kata kunci: antioksidan, DM tipe 2, glukosa darah puasa, SQ FFQ, vitamin

Abstract

This study aims to explore the of living organism interactions concept mastery and the environmental attitude of junior high school students in the TNWK buffer zone and with the student the city and it relate. The research was ex post facto. The sampling technique used random sampling. The research data were obtained from tests and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using independent t test and simple linear regression. Based on data analyzed, there was a difference in living organism interaction concept mastery and the environmental attitude between junior high school students in the buffer zone of the TNWK with the student in the city. Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant relate between living organism interactions concept mastery with that environmental attitude, both in the TNWK buffer zone and in the city.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi penguasaan konsep interaksi makhluk hidup dan sikap peduli lingkungan peserta didik SMPN di kawasan penyangga TNWK dengan di kota serta bagaimana hubungannya. Desain digunakan adalah ex post facto. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan random sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh menggunakan tes dan kuesioner. Analisis data menggunakan uji independent t test dan regresi linier sederhana. Berdasarkan uji hipotesis terdapat perbedaan penguasaan konsep interaksi makhluk hidup dan sikup peduli lingkungan peserta didik SMPN kawasan penyangga TNWK dengan di kota. Selanjutnya terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara konsep interaksi makhluk hidup dengan sikap peduli lingkungan, baik di sekolah kawasan penyangga TNWK maupun di kota.Kata kunci: kawasan penyangga TNWK, interaksi makhluk hidup, sikap peduli lingkungan.

Abstract

Diabetes Melitus merupakan penyakit yang bisa menyebabkan resiko gangguan kognitif melalui gangguan pada pembuluh darah termasuk diantaranya pembuluh darah di otak. Lama menderita DM dan kadar glukosa darah akan mempengaruhi fungsi kognitif penderita DM. Skrining fungsi kognitif diperlukan untuk pencegahan komplikasi seperti penyakit alzheimer. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis  hubungan lama terdiagnosa DM, Kadar Glukosa Darah dengan fungsi kognitif penderita DM Tipe 2 di Jawa Timur. Metode penelitian ini deskriptif observasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Skrining fungsi kognitif dengan Montreal Cognitive Assessment – versi Indonesia (MoCA – INA) dan glukometer untuk pengukuran kadar glukosa darah puasa (GDP) dan glukosa darah 2 jam PP(GD2JPP). Hasil uji chi square pada skor uji kognitif menggunakan MoCA dengan lama terdiagnosa DM tidak mempunyai hubungan (p=0,858). Demikian juga nilai chi square pada  skor uji kognitif  dengan kadar GDP  dan GD2JPP menunjukkan tidak ada hubungan (p=0,376 dan p=0,144). Sedangkan uji korelasi menunjukkan nilai yang signifikan untuk GDP2JPP ( p=0,015) dan adanya nilai koefisien korelasi negatif (-0,191).. Kesimpulan terdapat korelasi antara GD2JPP dengan penurunan fungsi kognitif. Semakin tinggi nilai GD2JPP maka semakin terganggu fungsi kognitif penderita DM tipe 2.Kata kunci:  Lama terdiagnosa DM, Kadar glukosa darah, fungsi kognitif, MoCA Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that can cause the risk of cognitive impairment through disorders of the blood vessels including blood vessels in the brain. Long-suffering from DM and blood glucose levels affect the cognitive function of patients with DM. Cognitive function screening is necessary for the prevention of complications such as Alzheimer's disease. The purpose of this study to analyze the relationship diagnosed DM, Blood Glucose Level with cognitive function of Type 2 DM patients in East Java. This research method is descriptive observational with a cross-sectional approach. Screening for cognitive function with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment - Indonesian version (MoCA - INA) and glucometer for fasting glucose (GDP) and blood glucose 2 hours PP (GD2JPP). Chi-square test results in cognitive test scores using MoCA with long diagnosed DM did not have a relationship (p = 0.858). Likewise, the chi-square value in the cognitive test scores with GDP and GD2JPP levels showed no relationship (p = 0.376 and p = 0.144). While the correlation test showed a significant value for GDP2JPP (p = 0.015) and the value of negative correlation coefficient (-0.191). Conclusion there is a correlation between GD2JPP with decreased cognitive function. The higher the GD2JPP value the more disturbed the cognitive function of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Keywords: Duration of diabetes, glucose level, cognitive function, MoCA

Abstract

Abstrak Label informasi gizi adalah informasi kandungan nilai gizi yang wajib dituliskan pada makanan kemasan untuk memudahkan konsumen memilih produk yang tepat sesuai kebutuhan gizi. Pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi sangat diperlukan konsumen karena akan memengaruhi perilaku pemilihan makanan kemasan yang dikonsumsinya sehingga dapat memengaruhi status gizi yang dimiliki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi mahasiswa status gizi obesitas dan normal serta mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi terhadap perilaku pemilihan makanan kemasan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observational analitik dengan pendekatan cross-sectional dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok status gizi obesitas (n=33) dan kelompok status gizi normal (n=33). Peneliti meng-gunakan instrumen kuesioner yang telah divalidasi sebelumnya. Pada penelitian ini menunjukkan 51,5% mahasiswa status gizi normal memiliki tingkat pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi yang cukup baik dibandingkan mahasiswa obesitas yang hanya 21,2%. Hasil uji beda dengan Mann Whitney juga menyatakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan tingkat pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi dan perilaku pemilihan makanan kemasan antara mahasiswa status gizi obesitas dan normal (p=0,004 dan p=0,000). Penelitian ini menemukan hubungan pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi dengan perilaku pemilihan makanan kemasan pada mahasiswa berstatus gizi obesitas dan normal menggunakan uji Spearman (p=0,004 dan p=0,007). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan cara membaca label informasi gizi mahasiswa status gizi normal lebih baik daripada mahasiswa obesitas saat memilih makanan kemasan.Kata kunci: pengetahuan label informasi gizi, perilaku pemilihan makanan kemasan, status gizi Abstract Nutrition facts label is information on the nutritional content that must be written on packaged foods to ease the consumers to choose the right product according to their nutritional needs. Consumer’s knowledge on how to read nutritional information labels is very required because it will affect the choosing behavior of packaged food consumed, so it can affect the nutritional status they have. This study aimed to determine the differences in knowledge on how to read nutrition information labels among normal and obesity students and to know the relationship of knowledge on how to read nutritional information labels and the behavior of packaged food selection. This study was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach using purposive sampling. Samples were divided into two groups, namely obese status group (n=33) and normal status group (n=33). The instrument used was questionnaire that had been validated before. In this study, 51.5% of normal status students had good knowledge on reading nutritional information labels compared to obese students, which was only 21.2%. The results of different test with Mann Whitney also stated a difference in the knowledge level on reading nutritional information labels and packaged food selection behavior among obese and normal students (p=0.004 and p=0.000). This study found a relation of knowledge on reading nutritional information labels and the behavior of packaged food selection on obese and normal students using the Spearman test (p=0.004 and p=0.007). Thus, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge on how to read the nutritional information label of students in normal nutritional status is better than obese students when choosing packaged foods. Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate diversity of sea cucumber. Samples were collected  in  the coastal  waters  of  Natuna,  Riau  Islands  in  June 2009. Samples were taken from 2 locations: Sepempang and Pengadah beach. Sampling was done by using a transect quadrant of 5x5 m. This  sampling and observation on  its  microhabitat  were conducted by snorkeling. Analyses on the sea cucumber community structure were based on its diversity, equitability, density and frequency of occurance. The result showed that at both  locations there  are 16  species from two families: Holothuriidae and  Stichopodidae.  The higher  diversity index  (H) was  3.256  and  equitability  index  (e) was 0.993.  The higher  density  of species were 0.0032 ind/m2. The higher frequency of occurance was 27.71% by H. atra.

Abstract

Satiety hormones play a role in obesity metabolism. The satiety response to similar nutrients in food in healthy and obese men remains undefined. The research was aimed to determine the satiety response differences by comparing the effect of isocaloric fast-food consumption on reducing appetite-related gut hormones, such as glucagon-like fullness ratings and both GLP-1 and CCK among healthy and obese men. Respondents were given an isocaloric fast food, then GLP-1 and CCK levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Visual analogue scale (VAS) form was used for hunger and fullness ratings of the subjects. The difference level of GLP-1, CCK, and VAS between groups were measured by t-test. The correlation between VAS hunger and fullness rating was measured by Pearson. Plasma hormone levels in 16 obese and 16 healthy-weight respondents were assessed before eating and at 30, 60, and 120 minutes after consumption. In obese men, GLP-1 levels were significantly higher than those in healthy-weight men at 60 and 120 minutes, while healthy-weight men had significantly higher CCK levels than those of obese men over time (all p<0.05). The total area under the curve (AUC) for GLP-1 was significantly higher for obese men than for healthy-weight men, while the AUC for CCK was significantly higher for healthy-weight men than for obese men. Obese men have higher plasma GLP-1 levels and lower plasma CCK than healthy men indicates that those respondents were experiencing glucose intolerance and leptin alteration. The hormonal systems that may contribute to the development of obesity need further investigation.
