Abstract

Early detection and accurate monitoring of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) at low concentrations are essential for industrial safety, environmental monitoring, and greenhouse gas mitigation. Conventional gas sensors, including electrochemical and semiconductor types, suffer from environmental sensitivity, frequent calibration needs, and limited long-term stability. Therefore, more stable, sensitive, and intrinsically safe sensing technologies are required, especially for high-risk environments. Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors offer key advantages as passive optical devices that are immune to electromagnetic interference, compact, and capable of multiplexed operation. This study presents the design and characterization of a graphene-coated FBG sensor for low-concentration CH4 and CO2 detection. The FBG was fabricated using the phase mask technique, followed by cladding etching to enhance evanescent field interaction with the surrounding medium. A graphene layer was synthesized via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and transferred onto the etched fiber surface to serve as the active sensing layer. Gas adsorption on graphene induces refractive index variations, producing measurable Bragg wavelength shifts monitored by a high-resolution optical interrogator. Experiments were conducted at concentrations up to 100 ppm under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. Results show sensitivities of 12.4 pm/100 ppm for CO2 and 9.7 pm/100 ppm for CH4, with strong linearity (R2 > 0.98), fast response time (< 15 s), low hysteresis, and good long-term stability. The proposed FBG-graphene sensor demonstrates strong potential for reliable real-time gas monitoring in industrial and environmental applications.

Abstract

In Buddhist religious practice, Javanese chanting is a manifestation of local cultural adaptation and an essential means of upholding Buddha Dharma within the community. In order to maintain the continuity of Buddha Dharma at Buddhayana Temple, this research seeks to investigate the function of Javanese Chanting as a legacy of the Buddhayana spirit. A case study methodology was used in the descriptive qualitative research. The interactive model of Miles and Huberman was used to analyze the data, which were gathered via interviews, observation, and documentation. This model consists of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results demonstrate that Javanese Chanting is more than just a ritual; it is also a cultural and spiritual means of promoting faith (saddhā), aiding in the comprehension of Buddhist teachings, maintaining the use of the Javanese language in religious practice, and promoting social cohesion among members of the Buddhist community. Additionally, the practice mirrors the Buddhayana spirit by being inclusive and flexible in response to local culture, serving as a kind of upāya-kauśalya in preserving the continuity and relevance of Buddha Dharma in today's world. By illustrating how local knowledge may aid in the preservation of religious customs in a diverse environment, this research advances the conversation about religion and culture.

Abstract

Low student learning outcomes are caused by many factors, one of which is inadequate laboratories and inappropriate use of learning media chosen by teachers. One solution that can be done due to the lack of learning media is to utilize simple materials and tools available in the surrounding environment that can be used in learning during practicums. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of using low-cost learning media in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental study with a post-test only control group design. The research sample was taken from two classes using random sampling techniques as the experimental class and the control class from the population of class VIII IPA SMPN 2 Tambang students. The data collection instrument used was a post-test of cognitive learning outcomes in the form of 20 objective questions. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis. The results of the descriptive analysis obtained that the average achievement of cognitive learning outcomes of class VIII.7 students as the experimental class was 57.83 with a fairly good category, while the average achievement of cognitive learning outcomes of class VIII.6 as the control class was 49.50 with a fairly good category. The results of the inferential analysis using the independent-sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in students' cognitive learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class, so that learning using low-cost learning media was effective in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes, especially in the material on work, energy and simple machines.

Abstract

International assessments, such as the International Student Assessment Program, indicate that the quality of education in Indonesia remains below the global average, particularly in science literacy. This condition reflects students' limitations in understanding and applying scientific concepts, highlighting the need for innovative teaching methods to enhance critical thinking and conceptual understanding. One relevant approach is deep learning, which emphasizes meaningful and contextual learning experiences. In physics education, especially on the topic of heat, students often face difficulties due to the abstract and complex nature of the material. Therefore, the ICARE learning model is considered an alternative approach because it provides structured, student-centered stages and can be integrated with deep learning principles. This study aims to analyze student learning outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of the ICARE model based on deep learning on heat material for eleventh-grade students at SMAN 12 Pekanbaru. The research uses a quantitative quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The sample consists of 76 students divided into experimental and control classes. Data were collected through a cognitive test consisting of 25 questions and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including the Mann-Whitney U test and effect size. The results show that the experimental class achieved higher average scores. The significance value of 0.043 indicates a meaningful difference, with an effect size of 0.23, categorized as small.
