Abstract

This systematic review aimed to identify the effectiveness of therapeutic play in reducing the impact of hospitalization on pre and school-aged children. Five databases were searched (ClinicalKey Nursing, Scopus, Sage Journals, ScienceDirect, and PubMed) for articles published between 2019 and 2023. Six RCT studies from Turkey met the inclusion criteria and were assessed for quality using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. The therapeutic play interventions included goldfish therapy, educational animated films, finger puppet play, music and kaleidoscope therapy, cartoon-assisted endoscopy preparation packages, and buzzy, jet lidocaine, bubble-blowing, and aromatherapy. The duration of the interventions varied. The outcomes measured were anxiety, fear, pain, emotional and psychological well-being, and postoperative nausea and vomiting. The results showed that therapeutic play significantly reduced anxiety (50% of studies), fear (100%), and pain (50%) in children undergoing hospitalization or medical procedures. Goldfish therapy also improved emotional and psychological well-being. No significant differences were found in postoperative vomiting and nausea. The most effective interventions were goldfish therapy, educational animated films, and finger puppet play. In conclusion, therapeutic play is a beneficial nursing intervention for reducing the negative impacts of hospitalization on children aged 3-12 years. Recommendations include implementing therapeutic play in pediatric hospital settings and conducting further research to expand the types of therapeutic play available.

Abstract

Background: Disasters are still one of the major phenomena that occur in Indonesia. In the period of February 2024, there were 173 disasters that hit the territory of Indonesia. Natural cause enormous physical and economic destruction, as well as many lives lost. Another impact of disasters is psychosocial problems, such as anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression can be experienced by various populations. The most vulnerable population is adolescents. Purpose: To analyse the effects of cognitive behaviour therapy for anxiety and depression in children's and adolescents' post-disaster Method: A systematic review with article selection guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The systematic review process begins with the formulation of clinical questions relevant to the topic. Before this, the authors establish PICOS criteria, which stand for: P (problem, patient, or population), I (intervention, prognostic factor, or exposure), C (comparison or control), O (outcome), and S (study design). For this article, P: Children and adolescents post-disaster, I: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), C: No therapy or standard care, O: Reduction in anxiety and depression, and S: Randomized controlled trial. The article search was conducted systematically using the keywords: “Cognitive Behaviour Therapy” OR “CBT” AND “Anxiety” AND “Depression” AND “Children” AND “Adolescent” AND “Disaster”. Results: A review of eight articles showed that Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is effective in reducing anxiety and depression in children and adolescents post-disaster. Compared to other therapies, CBT demonstrates a higher level of effectiveness, including in its modified and developed forms. Its application, when conducted following general procedures while considering cultural aspects and individual characteristics, yields significant results in psychological recovery. Conclusion: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective in overcoming anxiety and depression in children and adolescents after disasters, with a better level of effectiveness than other therapies, including in modified forms. The application of CBT that considers cultural aspects and individual characteristics can significantly improve therapy outcomes.

Abstract

Early intervention during pregnancy can prevent stunting. Pregnant women can prevent stunting by addressing risk factors such as nutrition during pregnancy, infection during pregnancy, and depression during pregnancy. This study was designed to identify the effect of health education and therapeutic group therapy on preventing stunting risk factors. Method: The research design was quasi-experimental with a control group. The groups in this study were divided into two groups, the offline group, consisting of two groups: the intervention group that received offline health education and the group that received offline health education and therapeutic group therapy. The online group consisted of three groups, the intervention group that received online health education, the group that received online health education and therapeutic group therapy, and the control group that refused to receive health education and therapeutic group therapy interventions but was sent leaflets on improving development in pregnant women. The study was conducted offline and online. The sample consisted of 157 pregnant women and husbands, 64 women and husbands offline, and 93 women and husbands online. The instruments in this study were questionnaires consisting of demographic data of pregnant women and husbands, nutritional data during pregnancy (upper arm circumference (LiLA) and haemoglobin, depression during pregnancy with the EPDS questionnaire, Data analysis used univariate and bivariate frequency distribution, central tendency, and paired t-test. The results showed that upper arm circumference (LiLA) and Hb did not show significant differences between the intervention and control groups. Health education and offline therapeutic group therapy significantly decreased the risk factors for stunting and depression during pregnancy. Health education and therapeutic group therapy are recommended to be carried out in health service settings, both offline and online, as a form of mental health services for pregnant women in preventing risk factors for stunting.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a life process experienced by women. It leads to physical, mental, and social changes in the mother. Pregnant women need to adapt to these changes throughout pregnancy. This study aims to determine the relationship between husband's support and the adaptability of pregnant women. This is a quantitative study using a descriptive-correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 157 pregnant women. Univariate analysis was presented in frequency distribution tables, while bivariate analysis used Pearson’s product-moment correlation. The adaptability of pregnant women in terms of physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence, as well as husband’s support, were categorized as good. A significant relationship was found between husband's support and the adaptability of pregnant women, specifically in physiological adaptation (p-value 0.000), self-concept (p-value 0.008), role function (p-value 0.002), and interdependence (p-value 0.000). Husband's support has a significant relationship with pregnant women’s adaptability in terms of physiological adjustment, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. Pregnant women can better adapt to pregnancy-related changes when they receive strong support from their husbands.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted various sectors and may trigger a decrease in quality of life (QoL), so resilience is urgently needed. This study aimed to analyze the role of resilience in the QoL of individuals during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in East Jakarta, Indonesia. An explanatory sequential mixed methods study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. The QoL was measured using the Indonesian-HRQoL on 300 respondents through multistage cluster sampling. The explanatory qualitative approach involved Focus Group Discussions and in-depth interviews. A Cox regression was used to analyze the quantitative data. The proportion of poor QoL was 26.30%. Poor resilience (individual, family, and community) contributed to poor QoL during the pandemic. Realistic perceptions determined the role of individual resilience in QoL concerning gratitude, sincerity, patience, mutual reinforcement, accepting circumstances, implementing health protocols, cognitive emotion regulation, adaptability, and optimism. The age of family decision-makers, social support, and self-control determined the role of individual resilience in QoL. The role of community resilience in mental-emotional disorders and QoL was determined by the stability of the education system, health system, political/government system, and pandemic management system.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder that requires long-term care and treatment. The treatment requires caregivers who may come from the family. A caregiver's daily tasks can be overwhelming, leading to psychosocial problems. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of psychosocial adaptation interventions in overcoming psychosocial problems in family caregivers of schizophrenic patients. This study used a systematic review approach. The literature search was sourced from five databases: Wiley Online Library, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, EMBASE, and Sage Journals. The keywords used were family caregiver, schizophrenia patient, psychosocial adaptation, and psychosocial problem. The results of a literature search obtained 448 articles then were screened with the criteria of articles published in 2018-2023, open access, full-text articles, original articles with a randomized controlled trial study design, discussing psychosocial adaptation interventions and psychosocial problems in schizophrenic family caregivers, and English. The results of the article screening obtained six articles, and critical appraisal was carried out using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Randomized Controlled Trials. All of them were included in grade A ( 90%). Based on the results, psychosocial adaptation interventions effectively dealt with family caregivers' psychosocial problems, including signs of depression, anxiety, stress, self-stigma, psychological burden, emotions, feelings of worthlessness, and powerlessness. Therefore, psychosocial adaptation interventions for schizophrenia family caregivers could be conducted comprehensively by telephone or spiritual approach, involving direct contact with patients, families, and communities. With optimal involvement by family caregivers by focusing on positive aspects and goals that the family caregiver wants to achieve, the role of accompanying the care and treatment of schizophrenic patients can be achieved.

Abstract

Purpose: Early childhood development is crucial for psychosocial growth, particularly in cognitive and language domains. In resource-limited areas, health promotion through community-based stimulation can bridge service gaps. A community-based approach involving parents and community health workers (CHWs) can effectively promote and prevent health issues in the community. Program description: A structured intervention using therapeutic group therapy (TGT) was implemented for toddlers aged 1–2 years in Batu Tulis Village, South Bogor, in December 2024. Implementation process: The program involved collaboration among mental health nursing students, mothers, health cadres, and local health workers. Activities focused on enhancing cognitive and language abilities. The intervention consisted of 30 to 45-minute stimulation sessions facilitated by mental health nursing students. Outcomes and observations: Improvements were observed in children's vocabulary, understanding of basic concepts, and social interaction. The evaluation was conducted through qualitative observation, structured interviews with parents, and the use of child development indicators based on the standards of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Parents reported that their children's communication and independence in daily routines had increased. Implications for health workers: The case highlights the vital role of community health actors and mental health professionals in promoting early childhood development through straightforward and replicable interventions. This program is relevant for integration into primary health services and posyandu activities as part of the community's promotive and preventive strategy. Conclusion: Community-based cognitive and language stimulation intervention can potentially support young children's psychosocial development.

Abstract

Psychological problems that occur in DM patients need to be a serious concern. Psychological problems that occur in DM casein can be caused by health changes that occur due to natural DM disease. The purpose of this systematic search is to determine the benefits and implementation of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in improving psychological symptoms in diabetes mellitus patients. Article search using systematic review method conducted on several electronic databases such as EBSCOhost, ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and International Archives of Health Science. The selected article is a study that uses an intervention design with a sample of diabetes mellitus patients, measures at least 1 psychological symptom, and is published in the last 10 years. Search results showed that 12 articles met the criteria for analysis. The psychological symptoms most often measured in these articles are depression, anxiety, and distress. The results showed that ACT was effective in improving psychological symptoms in diabetes mellitus patients. The implementation of ACT consists of 6 – 10 sessions and several articles recommend including diabetes education in the initial session of giving ACT. ACT is effective for treating psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, and distress in patients with diabetes mellitus.
