Abstract

Infestation of major pests and diseases on various cassava clones in Lampung-Indonesia. Lampung Province is one ofcassava producers in Indonesia which contributes more than 30% to the total national cassava production. However, theinfestation of pests and diseases can limit cassava production in the field. The objective of this research was to observe theinfestation level of major plant pests and diseases of cassava in Lampung. A survey was conducted in August 2016 in severallocations of cassava fields owned by farmers and experimental plots in the area of Faculty of Agriculture, University ofLampung. The results showed that cassava mealybug (Phenacoccus manihoti), papaya mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus)and red mite (Tetranychus urticae) infested at cassava clones in Lampung. The infestation of red mite tended to be higher thanthat of mealybugs. The cassava brown leaf spot disease that infested in mild to moderate severity was found on all cassavaclones, while viral disease with prevalence of 78% was only found on Duwet 1 clone in experimental plot.

Abstract

Influence of Culture Medium on the Sporulation and Viability of Aspergillus spp. and Talaromyces spp. Entomopathogenic Fungi. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of three kinds of cultures media on the spore production and viability of Aspergillus spp. (AS1, 6, 7, 9) and Talaromyces spp. (AS2?5, 8, 10) entomopathogenic fungi. This study was arranged using Factorial-Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was three kinds of cultures media (potato dextrose agar (PDA), corn meal agar (CMA), and sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA)) and the second one was isolates of Aspergillus spp. Or Talaromyces spp.. Data of spore production and spore viability were tested using ANOVA and if there was significantly difference, the data then further analyzed using Tukey?s Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at 5% of significant level. The spore production of Aspergillus spp. were in the range of 0.58 - 14.27 x 108 spores mL-1 (PDA); 0.28 ? 2.68 x 108 spores mL-1 (SDA) and 1.85 - 5.33 x 108 spores mL-1 (CMA). The highest spore production was achieved by AS1 isolate that was grown on PDA media. The spore produced by Talaromyces spp. were in the range of 2.15 ? 28.62 x108 spores mL-1 (PDA); 0.28 ? 29.43 x108 spores mL-1 (SDA); and 1.88 ? 16.63 x108 spores mL-1 (CMA). The highest spore production was produced by AS8 isolate which were cultured on PDA. The spore viability among isolates of the two entomopathogenic fungi were not significantly different. The spore viability of Aspergillus spp. was in the range of 95.10 ? 97.66% (PDA), 94.02 ? 98.45% (SDA) and 92.86 ? 98.20% (CMA). The spore viability of Talaromyces spp. was in the range of 95.83 ? 100% (PDA), 85.83 ? 100% (SDA), and 90.75 ? 100% (CMA). Culture medium influenced spore production but not the spore viability. The best culture media used for spore production of both of the entomopathogenic fungi was PDA media.

Abstract

Laboratory bioassays were conducted to compare the effects of the leaf extract of Acalypha indica  L. (Euphorbiaceae) with synthetic insect growth regulators (IGRs) triflumuron and buprofezin against Spodoptera litura (F.). The experiment was set up as a randomized complete block design (RCBD). The treatments were two concentrations of  A. indica extracts 1000 and 2000 ppm, two concentrations of  buprofezin 100 and 200 ppm, two  concentrations of triflumuron 120 and 240 ppm and control. Each treatment was replicated three times. Second instar larva of  S. litura  were used for the bioassays.  Mortality and biological variables of treated and control larvae were recorded daily. The results indicated that the application of A. indica extracts  and synthetic IGRs (buprofezin & triflumuron) significantly caused the S. litura  mortality throughout the experimental period. At first, the toxicity of triflumuron on larval S. litura was significantly higher compared to those of buprofezin and Acalypha indica leaf extract. However, at the end of experimental period all treatments caused high mortality on S. litura, and those all were significantly different from control. The treatments also caused abnorrmal growth in larval, pupal, and adult stages. While in the control, larvae molted into normal adults. The results indicated that the use of biorational control agents such as synthetic insect growth regulators (IGRs) and those based on naturally derived products such as botanical insecticides show promise as a potential tool in S. litura management programs.

Abstract

Effect of application of abamectine on the abudance of leafminer flies and its parasitoids on potato fields. The objective of research was to investigate the effect of the application of abamectine insecticide on the infestation of potato leafminer and its parasitoid. The fields experiment was conducted on potato fields in Pangalengan ? Bandung, West Java in 2000. The result showed that the abamectine-insecticide significantly reduce the plant damage intensities, the number of mining per plants, and the percentage of leaf damage. In addition, the application of abamectine insecticide was not significantly affected the level of parasitism and the number of parasitoid Hemiptarsenus varicornis (Girault) (Hymenoptera:Eulophidae) and Opius sp. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) that were emerged from leaf sample. The abamectine insecticide has a good possibilities to be used as an alternative for controlling of the leafminers before another technology was found.

Abstract

Species of Bambusa had widespread in Celebes, especially for Bambusa striata and Bambusa vulgaris. As an effect of the lacking of flowering, species identification mainly depends on vegetative features, and leaf epidermal micromorphology has proven to be useful in bamboo taxonomy. The objective of this research was to describe the classification of Bambusa from Celebes based on the micromorphological characters of leaf epidermis. The specimens were collected from wild population. The samples of leaf were collected from five member of Bambusa i.e.: Bambusa blumeana, Bambusa maculata, B. striata, B. vulgaris and Bambusa sp. Micromorphological characters were identified using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Leaf epidermis characters separated B. blumeana from other species of Bambusa. Furthermore, B. striata were closely related to B. maculata in variation of bulliform cells. As an invention, we release peltate hair as a new type of trichome in Bambusa. The presence of various prickles, trichomes and bulliform cells may be especially useful in delimiting species.

Abstract

AbstractSalted fish processing business is very important for residents who live in coastal areas and the area becomes a victim of rob. Ponds that have been fused with the sea due to rob, causing people's income to drop dramatically. The results of fishing and ponds are not sold in raw conditions, but fish and shrimp can be processed into other products that are more attractive. The problem faced was the difficulty of drying fish if it rained, high levels of fried oil so that processed foods quickly rancid, and processed foods quickly sluggish. This activity aims to increase the salted fish processing business in the village of sacrifice rob so that it becomes economically independent. This goal is achieved through increasing the supporting equipment and business skills. Dryer, oil slicer, and food packaging are applied in this activity. The results show that by using a dryer, drying is no longer dependent on the sun's heat. Drying capacity increases by 700% from the initial state of 1 kg/hour. Dread resistance increases to 15 days from the initial 4 days. Similarly, dreadlocks endurance increased from 7 days to 30 days
