Abstract

Principal learning leadership is an important factor in improving the quality of education, but its implementation in remote areas still faces various structural and resource limitations. This study aims to describe the learning leadership practices of school principals in schools in remote areas of South Central Timor Regency, analyze adaptive strategies applied in managing learning in the midst of limitations, and formulate its conceptual contribution to the development of educational leadership theory. This study uses a qualitative approach with a multi-case study design in three schools. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with principals and teachers, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically to identify patterns of practice and leadership strategies. The results of the study show that learning leadership practices run in diverse and contextual forms. School principals continue to carry out the functions of supervision and management of learning, but their intensity and quality are influenced by personal capacity, structural support such as infrastructure and access to training, and government policies. Adaptive strategies that emerge include strengthening internal solidarity, self-training, and orientation to the sustainability of educational services in the midst of limitations. This study concludes that learning leadership in remote areas is adaptive and contextual, so its development needs to consider geographical, social, and structural factors to be in harmony with the reality of the field.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) teachers in instilling tolerance values ??in students in private religious schools. Tolerance is a fundamental value in a pluralistic and diverse Indonesian society. This literature review analyzes the strategies and approaches used by PPKn teachers in developing attitudes of tolerance, the challenges faced in the context of private religious schools, and their impact on student character formation. The results of the study indicate that PPKn teachers have a strategic position as agents of transformation of tolerance values ??through contextual learning approaches, role models, and collaboration with various parties. The challenges faced include the potential for exclusivism of religious-based educational environments, intolerant external influences, and limited interaction with different communities. Research recommendations include strengthening the multicultural competence of PPKn teachers, developing more inclusive curricula and learning methods, and more intensive collaboration with families and communities.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom into learning has become essential in 21st-century education. This study aims to construct a theoretical argument regarding the alignment between the Tri Hita Karana philosophy and the goals of multicultural education, as well as to formulate a conceptual model that can serve as a reference for educators in creating transformative social studies learning with a diversity perspective. This research employs a narrative review method. Its three main pillars Parahyangan, Pawongan, and Palemahan create a layered framework that builds multicultural awareness starting from a spiritual foundation, manifested in social practice, and extended to the ecological realm. The synergy of these three dimensions produces a multicultural education approach that is not only cognitive but also transformative, shaping students’ character to appreciate diversity across a complete spectrum. It is concluded that implementing the Tri Hita Karana concept in elementary school social studies learning offers a comprehensive and transformative paradigm for multicultural education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study analyzes the development of educational philosophy, focusing on the role of Christian philosophy of education in shaping a holistic, character-based educational paradigm compared to general educational philosophy. Methodology: The study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) method following the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Data were collected from Scopus, ERIC, Crossref, and Google Scholar, with publications from 2015 to 2025. The screening process yielded 22 eligible articles, which were analyzed using content analysis. Main Findings: General educational philosophy emphasizes rationality, empirical evidence, and humanism, fostering critical, adaptive learners. Christian philosophy integrates faith and reason, moral formation, and the teacher’s role as a spiritual and moral exemplar. Both share a holistic approach but differ in epistemological and axiological foundations, offering a balanced educational paradigm. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides a unique contribution by integrating Christian philosophy of education with general educational philosophy, promoting a balanced paradigm that nurtures both intellectual competence and spiritual, moral, and ethical development. It advances contemporary educational discourse by addressing the interplay between rationality and spirituality.

Abstract

This study presents the development of a prototype mobile application named Bali Sari: Strengthening Resilience Based on the Characteristics of Balinese Society. The application is designed as a culturally grounded digital innovation to support communities, particularly Balinese society, in strengthening psychological resilience and preventing mental health problems such as stress, depression, and suicide, which have become serious concerns in Bali in recent years. The Bali Sari mobile application integrates Balinese philosophy, values, and cultural practices into a digital platform that is accessible, practical, and relevant to users’ daily lives. Although the application is rooted in Balinese culture, the values embedded in it are universal and may be accepted by broader communities. For instance, Pranayama breathing techniques promote focus and relaxation, while the concept of menyama braya reflects togetherness, mutual assistance, and social solidarity, which are values shared by many societies worldwide. Therefore, the potential users of this application are not limited to Balinese communities but may also include national and international users interested in culturally based approaches to resilience and mental well-being. The Bali Sari application also has strong commercial potential because its digital and paperless format allows it to be distributed through various online platforms and accessed widely. Its main advantages include providing resilience-strengthening interventions that are more effective for Balinese people because they are adapted to local characteristics, philosophy, values, and culture, while also enabling large-scale mental health promotion. This project focuses on developing and testing the prototype to ensure its feasibility, usability, and effectiveness before wider implementation. Overall, Bali Sari is expected to contribute to the advancement of culturally responsive digital mental health interventions and serve as a model for developing similar applications for other communities.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed social interaction patterns and character formation among elementary school students, posing serious challenges to instilling democratic values such as tolerance, communication ethics, and social responsibility. This study aims to analyze the role of Civic Education (PKn) in fostering a democratic spirit, identify implementation challenges, and develop a conceptual model as the research novelty. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method through systematic literature review and in-depth interviews with teachers at SD Negeri 2 Tabanan. The findings reveal that the main challenges lie not only in students' digital literacy but also in the gap in teachers' digital competence, the absence of evaluation instruments for democratic behavior in digital spaces, and the weak school-family-community tripartite collaboration. The novelty of this research is the Integrated Conceptual Model (ICM) , which connects four main components: digital democracy pedagogy, digital literacy for teachers and students, tripartite collaboration, and digital behavior evaluation instruments. This model serves as the article's original contribution to holistically integrating democratic education, character education, and digital literacy at the elementary school level. In conclusion, the successful formation of a democratic spirit in the digital era can only be achieved through the implementation of the ICM that combines participatory learning, critical use of technology, and digital behavior-based evaluation.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has increased the risk of cyberbullying among elementary school students, yet the integration of digital literacy into Civic Education (Civic Ed) as a preventive measure remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze the role of digital literacy as an instrument for preventing cyberbullying in Civic Ed learning at the elementary level and to offer theoretical contributions to digital citizenship concepts. A qualitative systematic literature review was employed. Data were sourced from Google Scholar, ERIC, Scopus, Taylor & Francis Online, and DOAJ (2020–2026). Inclusion criteria: (1) focus on ages 7–12, (2) discussion of at least two variables (digital literacy, cyberbullying, Civic Ed), (3) indexed at least Sinta 2 or Q3. From 187 initial articles, after three-stage selection and snowballing, 30 journal articles, 7 policy documents, and 5 academic books were analyzed. Findings indicate that cyberbullying is a multidimensional challenge not yet optimally addressed in the elementary Civic Ed curriculum. The novelty lies in the proposed Three-Pillar Integration Model (MITRA) and the Digital Literacy Integration in Civic Ed Model (MILD-PKn), positioning digital literacy as a moral and social instrument not merely a technical one. The main contribution is strengthening Civic Ed as a space for developing Pancasila-based digital citizenship. The study concludes that strengthening digital literacy in Civic Ed learning is a preventive strategy against cyberbullying while shaping critical, ethical, and responsible digital citizens from an early age.

Abstract

Civics education in elementary schools continues to face the problem of low student learning outcomes due to the dominance of conventional, teacher-centered learning methods. This study aims to synthesize scientific findings regarding the contribution of the Discovery Learning model toward student Civics learning outcomes. The method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol utilizing Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Scopus databases. The inclusion criteria specified empirical research articles (Classroom Action Research, experimental, qualitative) published between 2019 and 2026 that measured Civics learning outcomes, resulting in 15 selected articles for analysis. Data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The primary synthesis results indicate that this model consistently enhances cognitive achievements, with classical completion targets exceeding 85% through independent discovery syntax, while simultaneously strengthening affective competencies such as rights-and-obligations awareness and cooperation character. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive mapping that integrates cognitive and affective domains in Civics, alongside identifying guided discovery strategies as a solution to time-constraint challenges in the classroom. In conclusion, this literature synthesis confirms that the Discovery Learning model is highly contributive as an alternative, innovative learning model for building independence and improving the quality of Civics learning outcomes in elementary schools.

Abstract

Civics education faces threats from globalization and moral decadence. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Civics as a democratic education at SDN 091482 Kasindir and its contribution to the formation of students' nationalist attitudes. Using a qualitative approach with a single case study design, data were collected through a literature review, participant observation (12 Civics meetings in grades 4, 5, and 6), and interviews with 3 teachers, the principal, and 15 students. Data analysis used the Miles & Huberman interactive model. The results show that the implementation of Civics as a democratic education is realized through three main practices: deliberative discussions on national issues, simulations of joint decision-making, and collaborative projects of patriotism. The nationalist attitudes formed include pride as Indonesian citizens, a willingness to prioritize common interests, participation in simple national defense activities: ceremonies, mutual cooperation, and respect for national symbols. The main obstacles are limited time and teachers' understanding. This study contributes to the development of a nationalism-based democratic education model in elementary schools.
