Abstract

The high-level Madurese language (engghi bhunten) is a form of linguistic politeness that reflects the values of respect and culture of the Madurese people. The use of this language has an important role in shaping character, communication ethics, and preserving local culture in the school environment. However, the use of engghi bhunten among elementary school students began to face various challenges due to limited vocabulary mastery and the dominance of the use of Indonesian in daily communication. This study aims to analyze the use of high-level Madurese language (engghi bhunten) by students to teachers at Unit Regional Technical Implementer of State Elementary Schools Pejagan 9 Bangkalan within the scope of the school. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. Data was collected through observation and structured interviews with teachers and students of grade IV B. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study showed that students had used several engghi bhunten vocabulary when interacting with teachers, especially in learning Madurese language. However, its use has not been carried out consistently because students still experience difficulties in mastering vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence composition. In addition, the use of the language is influenced by the family environment, peers, student background, and the habits of using the Indonesian language. Teachers play an important role in guiding and accustoming the use of polite language through example and direction during the learning process. Thus, the use of engghi bhunten not only serves as a communication tool, but also as a means of character formation and preservation of local culture in elementary school students.

Abstract

Literacy is a basic competency that has an important role in achieving the success of developing the quality of human resources, one of which is through school libraries as a center for learning resources. However, the use of elementary school libraries still faces various obstacles, such as limited book collections, low student independence in visiting, and the lack of optimal use of literacy support technology. This study aims to analyze the role of elementary school libraries in supporting the literacy culture of grade II students of elementary school Keleyan 1 Bangkalan, especially in the condition of limited book collections. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the elementary school Keleyan 1 Bangkalan library has carried out a series of management activities including inventory, cataloging collections, and having the physical condition of the space as well as spatial arrangement. However, there are still limitations in book collections due to damage, low student independence in visiting the library, and the lack of optimal use of library technology in digital literacy programs. Nevertheless, the school continues to strive to develop literacy programs through library visit competitions, daily reading programs, and educational activities to improve student literacy culture.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and examine various barriers to the implementation of the healthy cafeteria program at SDN Kemayoran 2 Bangkalan. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. The informants involved included three teachers, twelve upper-grade students (grades 4, 5, and 6), and three canteen vendors. Data analysis was conducted interactively using the Miles and Huberman model. The results revealed four factors hindering the realization of a healthy canteen: (1) students’ strong sensory preference for flavor (MSG), (2) the dilemma of reduced income for canteen vendors if healthy canteen regulations are implemented, (3) vendors shifting their sales strategies toward less healthy snacks because students’ primary food needs are met by the Free Nutritious Meals (FNM) program, and (4) the weakening consistency of the school’s control and supervision system. Consequently, the “Healthy Cafeteria” label risks becoming nothing more than a mere formality without proper planning. This study hopes that schools will not only monitor but also act as facilitators by providing concrete solutions, such as training in developing healthy and cost-effective menus.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between school environmental cleanliness and students' learning comfort and learning concentration at SDN Kraton 3 Bangkalan. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach involving 35 fifth-grade students as respondents using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through an observation sheet to document the school's cleanliness conditions and a Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 14 valid and reliable items after validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that school environmental cleanliness had no significant relationship with learning comfort (r = 0.186, p = 0.284) or learning concentration (r = 0.317, p = 0.064). However, a strong and significant relationship was found between learning comfort and learning concentration (r = 0.631, p = 0.000). These findings suggest that learning comfort is a more dominant factor influencing students' concentration than physical cleanliness alone, highlighting the need for schools to create a holistic and conducive learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program on the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at Gili Timur 2 State Elementary School. This study utilizes a non-experimental quantitative approach involving 25 students as research subjects. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires and interviews with students and classroom teachers. The normality test results showed a value of 0.200 > 0.05, indicating that the data is normally distributed. Based on these results, data analysis was performed using a simple linear regression test. The analysis results indicate that the calculated t-value is greater than the t-table value (5.542 > 2.069), demonstrating that the Free Nutritious Meal program has a positive effect on students' learning motivation. Interview findings further reinforce the quantitative results, showing that students are more enthusiastic, more focused, and do not tire easily during the learning process following the implementation of the MBG program. Thus, the Free Nutritious Meal program contributes positively to increasing the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at Gili Timur 2 State Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the self-confidence of fourth-grade students at SDN Socah 2, Bangkalan Regency, in learning discussion activities. Self-confidence is a crucial aspect supporting students' success in participating in the learning process, especially when discussing and expressing opinions. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative research type. The research subjects consisted of 19 fourth-grade students and the fourth-grade teacher at SDN Socah 2, Bangkalan Regency. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was obtained through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results show that students' self-confidence in learning discussions is influenced by three main factors: fear of making mistakes, peer support, and teacher support. Fear of making mistakes is an obstacle that causes some students to hesitate to express opinions. Meanwhile, peer support helps increase students' courage to speak and participate in discussions. Additionally, teacher support is the most dominant factor in increasing students' self-confidence through providing opportunities to speak, motivation, appreciation, and positive reinforcement. Thus, efforts to increase students' self-confidence need to be made through collaboration between teachers, peers, and a supportive learning environment so that students can participate optimally in learning discussion activities.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the inadequate library facilities at Jaddih 3 Public Elementary School, which reduce students’ reading comfort. Library facilities are one of the important factors that need to be considered to support students’ reading activities at school. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the reading comfort of 5th-grade students at Jaddih 3 Public Elementary School and the availability of library facilities. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational test as the data analysis method. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 41 5th-grade students as the research sample. Questionnaires to determine students’ opinions, direct observation to examine the condition of the library, and documentation were used as data collection tools. The data obtained were then analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics software through a correlational test to determine the relationship between the two research variables. The results of the correlation test obtained a value of 0.556 > 0.316. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis is accepted while the null hypothesis is rejected, so there is a relationship between the condition of facility availability and the reading comfort of 5th-grade students at Jaddih 3 Public Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of sanitation and privacy conditions on the mental resilience and adaptive behavior of students at State Elementary School Labang, Bangkalan Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study method, this study involved 30 students as subjects. Data were collected through structured observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model and validated through source triangulation. The results showed that while sanitation facilities at State Elementary School Labang are available, constraints remain, such as poorly maintained toilets, unstable water supply, lack of soap, dim lighting, and suboptimal waste management. These conditions affect students' comfort, sense of security, and habits, while also hindering the implementation of Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors (PHBS). This study concludes that well-maintained sanitation with adequate privacy assurance plays a vital role in creating a healthy and comfortable learning environment, thereby supporting students' mental resilience and adaptive behavior.
