Abstract

The threat of water scarcity and the progressing technology in sewage treatment plants promote the reuse of recycled wastewater. While the practice itself is beneficial, there are still issues to be solved to utilize its full potential. This study focuses on identifying the bottlenecks or limiting factors in implementing the practice on a building scale. An office building was researched to reveal its water usage pattern. The building introduces a sewage treatment plant so the sewage can be recycled into usable freshwater. The analysis indicates the produced recycled wastewater has not been fully utilized until now. While the volume of the water demand is greater than the recycled wastewater, several factors hinder the total utilization of the reclaimed water. The recycled wastewater is mostly more than enough to cover the water usage for both gardening and toilet flushing, the usages still leave an excess of water for other purposes. Because of the constraints in water quality, finance, and public reception, the excess reclaimed water is yet to be optimally utilized. Firstly, the quality of the reclaimed water is not very convincing to be used for non-flushing human usage and cooling towers. Secondly, the high cost of the investment and the overhaul of the plumbing system (for old buildings) deters the practice of reusing the reclaimed water. Thirdly, many people still have terrible perceptions about reused wastewater thus they would hesitate to utilize it even if the reused water is technically fine.  Keywords: recycled wastewater, sewage treatment plant, office building, water conservation, rainwater harvesting

Abstract

This article examines the social and economic development of Koya Village, Petasia District, North Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, during the period 2015–2023. The study employs a qualitative approach with historical methods, including field observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Findings indicate that social development in Koya Village is characterized by adjustments to norms, morals, and traditions, the emergence of new communication patterns, and changes in intergenerational relationships. Economic transformation is marked by a shift from traditional agriculture and fisheries to industrial and service sectors, particularly after the establishment of the Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI) mining company. Furthermore, the development of mangrove ecotourism in Tomori Bay has provided new opportunities for local community empowerment. While these transformations have brought positive impacts such as improved welfare, they also created challenges including dependency on mining, social inequality, and the weakening of communal values such as mutual cooperation. Overall, the people of Koya demonstrate adaptive capacity by combining traditional values with modernity, although sustainable development strategies are still needed to balance social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects.

Abstract

This study benchmarks ensemble and regularized machine learning models for daily rainfall forecasting using meteorological data from forty-four observation stations across Singapore. The country’s highly variable tropical climate and frequent short-duration rainfall events pose major challenges for urban flood mitigation and operational forecasting. To address this, three algorithms—Lasso Regression, XGBoost Regression, and Gradient Boosting Regression—were developed and evaluated through a systematic comparison of predictive performance. Each model was trained using data from 1980–2023 and validated on independent observations from 2024–2025. The input variables included sub-hourly rainfall intensity, temperature, and wind-related parameters processed through a standardized data-cleaning and imputation pipeline. Results show that XGBoost achieved the most consistent and accurate predictions, with superior performance under both normal and heavy rainfall conditions. Statistical tests confirmed that the improvement was significant compared to Lasso and Gradient Boosting. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of ensemble-based approaches for enhancing the reliability of data-driven rainfall forecasting in tropical urban environments and support their integration into early warning and hydrological risk management systems.

Abstract

Digitalization is currently developing very rapidly, and various studies have shown that it contributes to increased economic growth in various countries. In Indonesia, the development of digitalization is a crucial factor in driving economic growth between provinces with varying levels of technology adoption. Therefore, this study aims to explore the influence of digitalization on economic growth in Indonesia and identify the contribution of each digitalization indicator to economic growth in each province based on digitalization clusters. This study uses one dependent variable, namely economic growth, which is proxied by GRDP per capita, and five independent variables as digitalization indicators: digital access, digital use, digital capability, digital finance, and digital inequality. The analysis method used is a spline approach to capture differences in influence between provincial clusters. The research results show that the digital capability indicator contributed the most to the increase in GRDP per capita in provinces with the “Very High” cluster, followed by Digital Finance. Thus, digitalization has been shown to significantly influence economic growth in Indonesia. Improving infrastructure and adopting digital technologies, as well as reducing the digital divide, are crucial for driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth across all provinces.

Abstract

Jakarta faces a chronic air pollution crisis, with PM2.5 concentrations consistently exceeding World Health Organization (WHO) safety thresholds. The fossil fuel–based transportation sector is a major contributor to emissions, making the transition toward electric vehicles (EVs) an urgent necessity. However, community readiness to adopt electric cars remains low due to limited environmental awareness, technology-related skepticism, and insufficient understanding of charging infrastructure and government incentive schemes. This community service program aims to enhance electric vehicle adoption readiness among car users and prospective car users in Jakarta through empowerment-based interventions involving education, training, and mentoring conducted from July to October 2025. The program employed a participatory–collaborative approach with mixed-methods evaluation involving 75 participants, using pre–post questionnaires, focus group discussions, observations, and short interviews. The results indicate significant improvements across key dimensions of adoption readiness, including environmental awareness (from 2.8 to 4.1), perceptions of BYD’s technological innovation (from 3.0 to 4.2), understanding of infrastructure and incentives (from 2.5 to 3.9), and behavioral readiness to consider electric vehicles (from 28% to 67%). Qualitative findings reveal a shift from technology-related concerns toward increased confidence and practical readiness, as well as the formation of the “Emission-Conscious Driver” community as an agent of change. These findings demonstrate that a community empowerment approach is effective in strengthening societal readiness for low-emission transportation adoption and can be replicated in other urban contexts.
