Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the peer tutoring method on learning activity, learning motivation, and biology learning outcomes of grade XI students at SMAN 15 Gowa. This quasi-experimental research employed a pretest-posttest control group design involving 54 students divided into experimental (n = 27) and control groups (n = 27). Learning activity was measured using observation sheets based on Paul B. Diedrich indicators, motivation was assessed through questionnaires using Keller's ARCS model, and learning outcomes were evaluated using cognitive tests consisting of 25 multiple-choice and 5 essay questions based on revised Bloom's taxonomy. Data were analyzed using Independent Samples t-test to compare groups and Paired Samples t-test to analyze improvements within groups, with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed significant effects of peer tutoring on learning activity (p = 0.015), motivation (p = 0.000), and learning outcomes (p = 0.000). The experimental group demonstrated higher mean scores in activity (25.93 vs 24.44) and substantial improvements in motivation (N-Gain 0.61, medium category vs 0.12, low category) and learning outcomes (N-Gain 0.57, medium category vs 0.29, low category). The mastery level achievement in the experimental group (92.60%) was substantially higher compared to the control group (66.70%). Superior performance can be attributed to enhanced peer interaction facilitating deeper conceptual understanding through social constructivism and the Zone of Proximal Development. These findings indicate that the peer tutoring method effectively enhances students' learning activity, motivation, and outcomes in complex biology topics, with practical implications for improving biology education quality at the secondary school level.

Abstract

The Skul.id platform is a local Learning Management System (LMS) designed to support blended learning through features such as access to learning materials, assignment submission, and online evaluation. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Skul.id-based blended learning with the station rotation model on students’ perceptions, learning activities, and science learning outcomes. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was employed, involving 54 eighth-grade students. The experimental group received blended learning with station rotation, while the control group received blended learning without station rotation. Data were collected using questionnaires, observation sheets, and learning achievement tests. The results showed significant differences between the two groups. The experimental group demonstrated very positive perceptions (96.30%), very high learning activity (100%), and higher learning outcomes with a mean posttest score of 77.78 and an N-gain of 0.56. In contrast, the control group showed positive perceptions (77.78%), active learning activity (92.59%), and lower learning outcomes with a mean posttest score of 65.48 and an N-gain of 0.36. Although both N-gain values were categorized as moderate, the experimental group achieved a substantially higher improvement. Independent sample t-test results confirmed statistically significant differences in perceptions, learning activities, and learning outcomes (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that Skul.id-based blended learning with station rotation is more effective in improving students’ perceptions, learning activities, and science learning outcomes

Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance has become a major global health challenge that threatens the effectiveness of existing antibiotic therapies. The rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria highlights the urgent need for alternative antibacterial agents, including those derived from medicinal plants. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial potential of Phyllanthus niruri against Gram-positive bacteria and to identify the bioactive compounds and possible molecular mechanisms involved. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles were retrieved from the Scopus database using the keywords “Phyllanthus niruri” and “antibacterial” or “antimicrobial”. After applying predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 15 studies published between 2021 and early 2026 were included in the analysis. The results indicate that P. niruri consistently exhibits antibacterial activity against several Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus. Antibacterial activity was commonly evaluated using inhibition zone assays, minimum inhibitory concentration, and minimum bactericidal concentration tests. Several bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and lignans such as phyllanthin, were identified as contributors to antibacterial activity. These compounds may inhibit essential bacterial proteins such as DNA gyrase and penicillin-binding proteins and disrupt bacterial cell membranes. Overall, P. niruri shows promise as a natural source of antibacterial agents against Gram-positive bacterial infections.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explain the role of the DREB1 gene in increasing drought tolerance in plants with an emphasis on recent advances in genetic engineering. In this research, the method used is a literature review by collecting library data, reading and taking notes, and critically managing research data related to the DREB1 gene. In this research, data analysis starts by examining the results from studies that are most relevant to the research problem. The results of the literature review obtained indicate that the DREB1 gene is a transcription factor that plays a role in regulating a number of other genes related to drought characteristics. The DREB genes participate in hormone signalling pathways and regulate proteins that interact with downstream genes to improve plant stress tolerance. When there is a drought, seedlings that have the DREB gene inserted have a survival rate of 36%, while plants without the DREB gene all die. These results indicate that the DREB1 gene is a positive regulatory gene for heat tolerance in plants. In this case, the transgenic lines keep their stomata partially closed, which helps maintain a minimum transpiration rate to cool the canopy and reduce the temperature of both the canopy and leaves. We achieve this by coordinating the control of stomata, minimising water loss, and preserving cell turgor, all of which prevent the plant from dying.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigated the differential effects of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with and without Wordwall integration on eleventh-grade biology students' motivation and learning outcomes at SMAN 8 Gowa, Indonesia. Seventy-two students were assigned to two experimental groups: R1 (TGT with Wordwall, n=36) and R2 (TGT only, n=36). Data were collected using a 20-item motivation questionnaire and a 30-item achievement test administered as pretests and posttests. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and normalized gain (N-Gain) calculations. Results revealed significant differences favoring TGT-Wordwall integration for both motivation (F(1,70)=38.42, p<.001, η²=.354) and learning outcomes (F(1,70)=86.77, p<.001, η²=.554). The R1 group achieved high N-Gain scores (g=0.78 for motivation; g=0.82 for learning outcomes) compared to R2's moderate gains (g=0.50 and g=0.63 respectively). Categorical analysis showed 66.7% of R1 students reached adequate or good performance levels versus only 8.3% in R2. These findings demonstrate that integrating interactive digital platforms with cooperative learning models substantially amplifies instructional effectiveness. The study provides empirical evidence supporting technology-enhanced pedagogy in secondary education and offers practical implications for educators implementing 21st-century learning approaches in biology instruction.
