Abstract

This study aims to analyze effect of the Project-Based Learning model based on the STEM approach on metacognitive awareness, conceptual understanding, and biology problem-solving abilities of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 13 Bone. The novelty of this study lies in integration of PjBL-STEM which simultaneously measures three high-level cognitive aspects in one experimental design. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of two classes (n=72) using a purposive sampling technique. Instruments included the MAI questionnaire, an essay test based on the SOLO taxonomy (prestructural to expanded abstract), and a problem-solving test based on Polya's stages, all of which have met high validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA (α = 0.05). The results showed that PjBL-STEM had a significant effect on metacognitive awareness (p=.004), conceptual understanding (p=.01), and biology problem-solving ability (p<.001). The experimental group showed a higher average increase compared to the control, indicating the effectiveness of PjBL-STEM in enhancing systematic and reflective thinking to support development of 21st century skills. Limitations of this study include quasi-experimental design without full randomization and sample size limited to one school. Further research is needed to test the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation on biology learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students in public high schools in Soppeng Regency, both directly and indirectly. This quantitative study employed an ex post facto correlation approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis techniques. A sample of 505 students was selected using simple random sampling and proportional sampling techniques from a total population of 1.444 students. The instruments used included questionnaires on metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation, as well as a biology learning achievement test. The results showed that metacognitive awareness was significantly related to learning motivation (p=0.00), but had no direct effect on learning outcomes (p=0.06). Self-efficacy was significantly related to learning outcomes (p=0.01), but not significantly to learning motivation (p=0.06). Learning motivation was also significantly related to learning outcomes (p=0.00). Indirectly, metacognitive awareness has a significant relationship with learning outcomes through the mediation of learning motivation (p=0.00) and self-efficacy (p=0.02). However, the indirect relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes through learning motivation was not significant (p=0.16). The conclusion of this study confirms that learning motivation plays a crucial role as a primary mediator. Increasing metacognitive awareness and self-efficacy needs to be optimized in an integrated manner to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Defisiensi vitamin A (Vitamin A Deficiency, VAD) masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat di banyak negara berpenghasilan rendah dan menengah, khususnya pada kelompok anak dan ibu hamil yang sangat bergantung pada beras sebagai pangan pokok. Pendekatan konvensional melalui suplementasi, fortifikasi pangan, dan diversifikasi diet menghadapi berbagai kendala logistik, ekonomi, dan sosial-budaya sehingga dampaknya belum optimal. Biofortifikasi beras dengan provitamin A melalui pengembangan “golden rice” menawarkan alternatif intervensi jangka panjang. Artikel ini menyajikan tinjauan literatur terstruktur mengenai evolusi pengembangan golden rice dari GR1, GR2/GR2E hingga pendekatan penyuntingan genom berbasis CRISPR-Cas, efektivitasnya sebagai strategi biofortifikasi provitamin A, serta kontroversi, tantangan, dan prospeknya dalam kerangka ketahanan gizi berkelanjutan. Tinjauan menunjukkan bahwa GR2E dan Golden Rice berbasis CRISPR mampu meningkatkan kandungan β-karoten pada bagian endosperm tanpa mengganggu karakter agronomis utama, namun efektivitasnya di tingkat populasi sangat dipengaruhi oleh pola konsumsi, bioavailabilitas, retensi selama pengolahan, serta konteks regulasi dan penerimaan sosial. Golden Rice berpotensi menjadi intervensi pelengkap yang penting, tetapi perlu diintegrasikan dengan program diversifikasi pangan dan edukasi gizi agar berdampak nyata terhadap penurunan VAD.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve teachers’ understanding and skills at SDN 155 Atakka Soppeng in integrating STEAM and Science Process Skills (SPS) through an SDGs-based Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) project. The program employed an empowerment-based mentoring approach consisting of socialization, training, hands-on LOF production, pre-test and post-test evaluation, and sustainability reflection. The pre-test indicated that teachers’ initial understanding of STEAM, SPS, and LOF was varied and not yet applicable. After mentoring, the post-test showed improved understanding, positive responses to the activity, and teachers’ ability to connect LOF with science learning activities, such as observing, measuring, drawing conclusions, and communicating findings. The hands-on activity also produced LOF with observable changes in color, odor, and texture, indicating the fermentation process. These findings demonstrate that the LOF project can serve as a contextual learning medium that connects teacher capacity building, STEAM learning, SPS development, organic waste management, and sustainability education in elementary schools. Further mentoring on LOF application, growing media, hydroponics, and formulation development is recommended to support sustainable environmentally-based IPAS learning.

Abstract

Pelatihan pemanfaatan pipa paralon sebagai tempat sampah bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, mempopulerkan, dan menggugah masyarakat di Kabupaten Bulukumba khususnya pada kelompok tani Pundimeng dalam memanfaatkan kembali sisa-sisa bahan di sekitar sebagai bahan membuat tempat sampah inovativ khususnya bagi sampah rumahtangga atau sampah dapur. Pelatihan kepada masyarakat ini untuk; 1.  meningkatkan pengetahuan untuk dapat memanfaatkan kembali bahan sisa dalam penerapannya di kehidupan sehari-hari. 2.mengubah sampah rumahtangga menjadi kompos yang dapat digunakan pada areal pertanian. Metode yang telah dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini secara bertahap meliputi ceramah untuk pemaparan materi dengan pengenalan bahan-bahan, cara kerja dan perakitan, demostrasi serta praktik langsung, dan diskusi. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan respons positif dari peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat sudah mengetahui pemanfaatan pipa paralon sebagai tempat sampah inovativ bagi sampah organik khususnya sampah dapur. Selain pemanfaatan sisa paralon sebagai bahan tempat sampah, secara mandiri masyarakat dapat memanfaatkannya sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan penerapannya. Seluruh peserta telah memiliki keterampilan dan pengetahuan sehingga peluang untuk pemanfaatan pipa paralon sebagai bahan pembuatan tempat sampah semakin terbuka lebar hingga pada usaha memanfaatkan bahan sisa lain di lingkungan sekitar. Selama kegiatan berlangsung seluruh peserta menunjukkan antusiasme sangat tinggi terhadap kegiatan pelatihan ini.Kata kunci: Pipa paralon, tempat sampah inovativ, sampah organik AbstractTraining on the use of PVC pipes as waste bins aims to increase knowledge, popularize, and inspire the community in Bulukumba Regency, especially farmer groups, to reuse waste materials around them as materials for making innovative trash bins, especially for kitchen waste. This training for the community aims to increase knowledge and enable them to reuse waste materials in their daily lives. The methods used in this activity were carried out in stages, including lectures for material presentations with an introduction to materials, working methods and assembly, demonstrations and direct practice, and discussions. The training results showed a positive response from participants. The results of the activity showed that the community was already aware of the use of PVC pipes as innovative trash bins for organic waste, especially kitchen waste. In addition to utilizing PVC waste as trash bin material, the community can independently use it according to their needs and applications. All participants have acquired the skills and knowledge so that opportunities for utilizing PVC pipes as trash bin materials are increasingly wide open, including efforts to utilize other waste materials in the surrounding environment. Throughout the activity, all participants showed very high enthusiasm for this training activity.Keywords: PVC pipe, innovative trash can, organic waste

Abstract

Ketergantungan penggunaan pestisida kimia sintetis dalam sektor pertanian konvensional telah memicu berbagai degradasi lingkungan, resistensi hama, serta ancaman terhadap kesehatan manusia. Pestisida nabati menjadi alternatif yang dapat digunakan sebagai pengendali hama yang bersifat ramah lingkungan karena mudah terurai di alam (biodegradable) dan tidak meninggalkan residu berbahaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan mengoptimalkan potensi tanaman sekitar sebagai agen pengendali hama alami dalam mendukung sistem pertanian berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen, yang dimana hasil dari pemberian pestisida nabati pada plot tanaman yang diaplikasikan pestisida nabati secara rutin menunjukkan tingkat kerusakan daun dan buah yang jauh lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan plot tanaman tanpa perlakuan.  Adapun kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini yakni menggunaan tanaman sekitar sebagai agen pengendali alami mampu memutus ketergantungan terhadap pestisida kimia sintetis, sekaligus menekan risiko degradasi lingkungan dan resistensi hama.
