Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented major challenges to the education sector in Indonesia, causing learning to lag behind. In response, the government developed the Independent Curriculum, which began to be implemented at UPT SD Negeri 067690 Medan, replacing the 2013 Curriculum. This research aims to examine teachers' perceptions and barriers to implementing the Independent Curriculum. Using descriptive qualitative methods, data was collected through structured interviews and documentation. The results show that teachers have a positive perception of the Independent Curriculum, but face obstacles such as limited information technology, time management, and variations in students' learning abilities. These obstacles require ongoing training and adequate infrastructure support. In conclusion, although the Merdeka Curriculum is well received, adaptive strategies and support are needed to overcome barriers and ensure successful implementation.

Abstract

Background: Reading is a fundamental skill crucial for academic success, particularly interpretative reading which involves analyzing implicit meanings, author intent, and emotional nuances in texts. Specific Background: Indonesian students’ literacy rates remain below the OECD average, with most failing to achieve minimum proficiency in reading, as highlighted by PISA 2022. Knowledge Gap: While digital comics and Project Based Learning (PjBL) have individually shown promise, there is limited research on their integration for enhancing interpretative reading in Indonesian elementary contexts. Aim: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of PjBL-based fable e-comics in improving the interpretative reading abilities of Grade IV elementary students. Results: Using a quasi-experimental one group pretest-posttest design, students’ scores improved significantly from a pretest average of 66 to a posttest average of 91, with an N-gain score of 0.71, indicating high effectiveness. Novelty: The study offers a novel instructional model combining e-comics and PjBL to foster interpretative reading—a synergy not previously explored in this context. Implications: Findings suggest that this innovative approach can enhance literacy instruction, offering practical guidance for educators to design engaging, curriculum-aligned digital learning experiences that align with the Merdeka Curriculum and 21st-century competencies.Highlight : Improves Reading Skills: E-comic fables with PjBL significantly enhance interpretive reading ability. High Effectiveness Score: Achieved an N-gain score of 0.71, categorized as high. Suitable for Elementary Students: Tailored for students' characteristics and supports 21st-century learning. Abstract

The problem in this study is that students are less active in learning because the learning carried out in class V SDN 106811 Bandar Setia has not used the right learning model, causing low student learning outcomes. The type of this research is Quasi Experimental with a research design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The subjects in this study were students with the research population used were all grade V students of SDN 106811 Bandar Setia totaling 40 students. The samples in this study were all VA class students totaling 20 students as the experimental class and VB class totaling 20 students as the control class. The data collection instruments in this study were test and observation instruments. The data analysis technique used in this research is quantitative analysis. The results showed that the average value in the experimental class treated with the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model was 81, the maximum score was 90 and the minimum score was 70. Then the average value in the control class using the expository model was 52,75 with a maximum score of 70 and a minimum score of 35. Based on the results of hypothesis testing using the t test, it is obtained that  > , namely the value of 10,13 > 2,02 so it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected which means that there is an effect of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model on the learning outcomes of Indonesian language students in the material of pantun class V SDN 106811 Bandar Setia.
