Abstract

One of the major issues in nursing services, both in Indonesia and globally, is the lack of effective verbal and non-verbal communication by nurses, which can significantly impact patient satisfaction. Patient dissatisfaction can affect the development of nursing services and the overall quality of hospital care. Nurses’ communication skills are essential in providing care, as they influence the patient's perception of service quality. This study aimed to examine the relationship between nurses’ verbal and non-verbal communication and patient satisfaction in the inpatient ward of Mega Buana Hospital, Palopo. An observational study with a cross-sectional design was used. A total of 83 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between verbal communication and patient satisfaction (p-value = 0.012 < α = 0.05), and between non-verbal communication and patient satisfaction (p-value = 0.018 < α = 0.05). It can be concluded that most nurses demonstrated effective verbal and non-verbal communication, and most patients reported being satisfied with the services received. This study confirms that therapeutic communication by nurses plays a vital role in influencing patient satisfaction in the inpatient setting at Mega Buana Hospital, Palopo.

Abstract

The lack of English learning materials tailored to the specific academic and professional needs of accounting students in Islamic universities presents a challenge in preparing students for the global workplace. This study aims to identify the English learning needs of accounting students at an Islamic university in order to develop relevant and effective learning materials. Data were collected using a google Form questionnaire distributed to students, English lecturers, accounting lecturers and graduates. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings indicate that all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), along with language components such as grammar and vocabulary, are considered important by respondents. The students preferred teaching methods that include discussion, exercise, demonstrations, role-play, vocabulary drills, group work, and video-based learning. Regarding assessment, the majority of students favored restricted response tests, written tests, matching items, performance-based tests, and multiple-choice questions. In addition to general English topics, students express the need to learn terminology related to Islamic Accounting. Essential language functions identified include self-introduction, participating in meetings, and communicating in professional contexts such as client interactions and academic conferences. These findings can be used to produce English learning material tailored to specific needs of accounting students in Islamic higher education institutions

Abstract

Noise is one of stressors that can occur over a long period and adversely affect health if it exceeds the ability to adapt. The heart plays a significant role and is the main organ in distributing oxygen, substances, minerals, and other organic substances in the blood. The samples used in this study amounted to 24 white male rats divided into four groups. Group K1 is a control rat that does not give treatment, Group P1 is given noise treatment for 6 hours of exposure, Group P2 with 9 hours of exposure, and Group P3 with a dose of 12 hours of exposure. Heart samples were collected and histology preparations were obtain by Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining, and microscopic observe were made with 10μm and 40μm magnification. The results of the study were then adjusted to degree of damage and analyzed using the Kruskall-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test to showing changes in the form of necrosis and inflammation due to noise stress with different levels of damage and obtained a value below the critical value (p<0.05). The degree of damage that occurs is in line with the length of noise exposure given. Severe damage occurred in Group 3 with noise exposer of 12 hours/day for 29 days.

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and heart attack symptoms, are the leading causes of death worldwide. High cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels contribute significantly to these diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of combining capsules of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) and cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) in lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels. After conducting pre-clinical trials, clinical trials were further carried out in humans. Cholesterol and blood sugar levels were measured for 14 days in Phases 1 and 2. Statistical data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, paired t-hypothesis test, Wilcoxon test, and frequency analysis. The results showed that in Phase 1, there were significant differences in volunteers' cholesterol and blood sugar levels with no clinical symptoms. The most significant decrease in cholesterol levels in female volunteers occurred at the age of 21-30 years, at 25.56%, while the most significant reduction in blood sugar levels occurred at 41-50 years, at 41.50%. On the other hand, the most significant decrease in cholesterol levels in male volunteers occurred at the age of 41-50 years at 33.08%, and the most significant reduction in blood sugar levels occurred at the age of >60 years at 38.87%. The most significant content in the combination capsule was fatty acids and cinnamaldehyde. In conclusion, consuming a combination of earthworm and cinnamon capsules for 14 days caused a reduction in cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between learning styles and speaking anxiety among first-semester English Education Department students at Muhammadiyah University of Enrekang. Speaking anxiety is a significant barrier to language learning, often exacerbated by mismatches between students' learning styles—visual, auditory, or kinesthetic—and traditional teaching methods. To explore this relationship, a qualitative research approach was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis involving 18 participants. The semi-structured interviews were designed to gather students' perspectives on their learning preferences, experiences with speaking anxiety, and how these factors influenced their speaking performance. The document analysis included an examination of academic records, feedback from instructors, and reflective journals, which provided additional insights into students' speaking challenges and coping mechanisms. The findings reveal that students' learning styles significantly influence their experiences of speaking anxiety. Visual learners struggle with spontaneous speaking tasks due to their preference for preparation and reliance on visual aids. Auditory learners face challenges with pronunciation, often fearing their spoken English will not sound "correct." Kinesthetic learners, on the other hand, experience heightened anxiety in formal, non-interactive settings where they are unable to engage physically with the language. This study underscores the importance of aligning teaching strategies with students' learning preferences to reduce anxiety and foster confidence in speaking tasks. Recommendations include adopting flexible, student-centered approaches such as incorporating visual aids, auditory exercises, and interactive, movement-based tasks that cater to various learning styles. These strategies aim to create more supportive and inclusive learning environments.
