Abstract

It is crucial for advanced writing learning to have learning modules that allow students to cultivate holistic writing skills through a integrated feedback method. Nonetheless, the current modules do not include a thorough needs assessment, which restricts their applicability and efficiency. An examination of the teaching module, focused on the specific context and learning requirements, provides a thorough framework to facilitate advanced writing learning. This research analyzed the requirements of both lecturers and students concerning a holistic writing module that incorporates integrated feedback, focusing on the target situation (needs and lacks) and learning needs (preferences). The research employs the ADDIE development framework, with a focus on the analysis phase. Data were collected via questionnaires, interviews, and observations, and subsequently analyzed qualitatively using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that the mean score for the need for the teaching module was 3.29, whereas the mean score for the lack of it was 2.72. This indicates a need for additional development of the teaching module. Learning observation results support this information, with an average score of 2.45, categorized as good. Students require a holistic writing module that incorporates integrated feedback. This research suggests that teaching modules for English Language Teaching (ELT) should be designed through a learner-centered and technology-supported approach to support advanced learning, innovative learning design, and contextual literacy development in higher education. Future research should involve developing and evaluating writing module to verify their efficacy.

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescents are prone to nutritional problems due to unhealthy eating habits, worsened by lifestyle changes during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to describe the eating patterns and nutritional status of adolescents at SMAN 17 Surabaya. A descriptive quantitative design was used, involving 38 randomly selected Grade XI students from November 2021 to March 2022. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements and a validated Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), then analyzed descriptively. The majority of respondents were 17 years old (63.2%) and female (73.7%). While all respondents were categorized as having good food types based on diversity, most exhibited severe macronutrient deficits, most had severe deficits in energy (73.7%), protein (42.1%), fat (52.6%), and carbohydrates (84.2%). Consumption of vegetables, fruits, and protein sources was low. All respondents (100%) had poor dietary patterns. Nutritional status showed that 68.4% were normal, 13.2% underweight, 10.5% overweight, and 7.9% obese. Schools, parents, and health professionals are encouraged to improve adolescents' nutrition through education, monitoring, and promoting balanced diets with adequate intake of fruits, vegetables, and protein.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency is one of the health problems faced by adolescents due to nutritional deficiencies. Objective, To determine the acceptability of cork fishmeal and cheese-based cookies as an effort to prevent Chronic Energy Deficiency in adolescent girls. This study used Pre-Experimental design with three different formulations: CG1 (27 g wheat flour), CG2 (10 g wheat flour, 5 g cork fish, 12 g cheese), and CG3 (10 g wheat flour, 8 g cork fish, 9 g cheese). A total of 750 grams of samples were organoleptically tested using a hedonic scale in the laboratory of the Nutrition Department of Surabaya Polytechnic and analyzed with the Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney test if there was a significant difference (p-value <0.05). Showed significant differences in color (p-value 0.041) and aroma (p-value 0.036) indicators, but there were no significant differences in texture (p-value 0.367) and taste (p-value 0.430). Formulation CG2 with 8.14% protein content was most favored by the panelists. Formulation CG2 was considered the best and qualified as a snack food. Suggestions It is hoped that the formulation of cookies based on cork fish flour and cheese can be improved and developed again for the results of a better formula.

Abstract

The toddler stage is a vital period of growth when insufficient exclusive breastfeeding can lead to undernutrition, malnutrition, and stunting due to high nutritional needs and limited nutrient absorption. This descriptive study aimed to describe exclusive breastfeeding history and the nutritional status of toddlers aged 12–24 months at Tambakrejo Community Health Center, Surabaya. Conducted from October 2023 to March 2024, the study involved 49 toddlers selected from a population of 173 through simple random sampling. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements (weight-for-height Z-scores) and structured interviews with mothers. Analysis was performed using univariate descriptive statistics in SPSS. Results showed that 89.8% of toddlers had good nutritional status and 79.6% received exclusive breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding was more common among mothers with senior high school education (69.4%) and those who were housewives (63.3%). A positive trend was observed between exclusive breastfeeding and good nutritional status. Future studies should involve larger samples and explore other contributing factors using analytical approaches.
