Abstract

Nutritional status has a significant influence on the growth and development of children. Poor nutrition during the first 1000 days of life (HPK) can reduce the risk of disease, one of which is stunting, as well as the risk of death, which is around 13% (WHO, 2009). In 2018 the percentages of very short and short toddlers aged 0-59 months were 11.5% and 19.3%, respectively. The magnitude of the risk of stunting for infants and toddlers, it is necessary to hold early detection of stunting as an effort to help increase knowledge that is implemented in monitoring activities for growth and development of infants and toddlers that are more optimal. The activity was carried out on November 18, 2021 with 20 mothers who have babies and toddlers. This group was given counseling, physical examination and early detection of growth and development using the KPSP questionnaire. The results showed that 6.25% of underweight infants and 6.25% of obese infants, 44% of infants and toddlers in the short category, 6% very short, 81% of exclusive breastfeeding, 6% of infants with deviations (smooth motion, socialization and independence) and 6 % of dubious results (rough motion). It is hoped that husbands, families and the community will monitor the growth and development of infants and toddlers to prevent stunting and other growth and development disorders. Health workers should always promote balanced nutrition programs and other stuntin prevention efforts since the preparation for pregnancy (preconception).

Abstract

Indonesia is facing increased consumption of calorie-dense foods, such as fast food, among its society. Changes in diet and physical activities towards unhealthy ones can result in an imbalanced lifestyle, leading to various consequences, including hyperlipidemia. Pregnant women experience significant increases in plasma concentrations of lipids, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins. Excessive cholesterol levels in pregnant women will result in the formation of fat in the liver. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a high-fat diet to pregnant Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) on the histopathological features of the liver. A true experimental with post test only control group design was applied in this study, which was conducted from August 2020 to November 2021. Fourteen (14) pregnant female rats were divided into two groups. The first group of rats was fed with a high-fat diet, while the second group, which was the control group, was given a standard diet. The high-fat diet used was 3 mL/rat/day beef brain. After the rats delivered their litters, the rats’ livers were retrieved, then examined histopathologically under a microscope. This research was conducted from No fatty liver was identified in the control group or the treatment group. Hence, a high-fat diet does not affect the liver histopathological features in pregnant Wistar rats.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia during pregnancy is a physiological condition resulting from increased insulin resistance, lipoprotein synthesis, and lipolysis in adipose tissue, which mobilizes lipids as an energetic substrate for fetal growth. Consumption of foods high in fat and cholesterol may lead to an increase in total blood cholesterol levels during pregnancy due to saturated fat and cholesterol contents that will increases the synthesis of lipoproteins in the blood. The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of high fat and cholesterol diet on the total blood cholesterol levels in pregnant Wistar rats. This study was a true experimental research using a randomized post-test-only control group design  conducted from November 2020 to October 2021on fourteen female Wistar rats that were divided into control and intervention groups. Cow brain was provided as the high fat and cholesterol diet and after the rats gave birth, blood was drawn from the heart. The total blood serum cholesterol levels were assessed  using Micro Lab 300 with the CHOD-PAP method and the data were analyzed using an independent t-test. This study showed that the mean total blood cholesterol levels for the control and treatment groups were 80.43±18.512 mg/dL and  142.57±24.786 mg/dL, respectively, which reflected a significant differences in the mean total blood cholesterol level between the control and treatment groups (p-value <0.01). In conclusion, a high fat and cholesterol diet affects the total blood cholesterol level in pregnant Wistar rats.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to determine the role of estrogen hormone levels in obese women as a factor in disrupting the menstrual cycle. Method: This Systematic Literature Review is based on articles from journals obtained through Pubmed, Science Direct and Google Scholar searches, referring to the topics that have been determined. The research articles used were selected with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: Obesity has a detrimental effect on the human body, including reproductive health. In particular, obese women are disturbed by the pituitary-ovarian-hypothalamic axis and often suffer from menstrual dysfunction leading to anovulation and infertility. Women with high levels of fat in their bodies will affect the hormone estrogen because apart from the ovaries, estrogen will also be produced by adipose tissue, making estrogen abnormal and tend to be high. This unbalanced hormone production can cause disturbances in the menstrual cycle. Conclusion: High estrogen levels cause the feedback to FSH to be disrupted so that it does not reach peak levels and interferes with follicle growth which causes the prolongation of the menstrual cycle (Oligomenrhea).
