Abstract

This study examines changes in the social piety of female itinerant traders in traditional markets in the Minangkabau matrilineal cultural context in West Sumatra. Village religious traditions, common among non-mobilized women working as farmers, are compared with market religious traditions, which emerge among women working as itinerant traders. The change from the agricultural sector to the market sector influenced women's religious practices, from traditions characterized by mechanical rural norms to an organic and materialistic market orientation. This study uses holistic observation methods in two traditional markets and in-depth interviews with female itinerant traders. Findings suggest that the economic mobility of itinerant women traders creates different dynamics of social piety, with heterogeneous market interactions influencing their understanding and practice of religion. The piety formed reflects social solidarity and adaptation to changing economic conditions, with primary indicators including helping, lending and borrowing capital, almsgiving, and trade integrity. This activity shows that religion plays a role not only as a spiritual guide but also as a motivator and regulator in economic and social life. This study sheds light on how economic dynamics influence women’s religious and social lives in Minangkabau, emphasizing the necessity of understanding cultural and economic changes within a broader social context.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implications of the application of Max Weber's authority thinking in the decision-making process at Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyah Islamiyah Gobah V Surau. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore the application of Max Weber's authority thinking in decision making at the Tarbiyah Islamiyah Gobah V Surau Islamic Boarding School. The main focus of this research is to understand how Weber's three types of authority, namely traditional, charismatic, and rational-legal authority, play a role in the decision-making process involving pesantren leaders, teachers, and santri. The results of this study indicate that the application of Weberian authority in Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyah Islamiyah Gobah V Surau shows that the combination of traditional, charismatic, and rational-legal authority creates a strong and adaptive educational environment. Traditional authority safeguards spiritual and moral values, while the charismatic authority of leaders such as kyai builds loyalty among santri. On the other hand, the application of rational-legal authority increases efficiency and transparency in education management. Although there are challenges in maintaining traditional values in the midst of modernization, the combination of these three forms of authority provides a solid foundation for pesantren to adapt to the times, without losing its distinctive identity and character. Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyah Islamiyah Gobah V Surau has the potential to become a relevant and responsive educational institution, while being faithful to its existing cultural and spiritual heritage

Abstract

The rise of digital transactions has led to the practice of digital gold trading, which was later endorsed by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). This fatwa reflects an effort to align sharia principles with the digital economy, particularly in protecting Muslim consumers. This study analyzes the relevance of the maslahah (public interest) concept in the MUI fatwa on digital gold trading and examines its role in consumer protection. Using a normative library research method, data were collected from MUI fatwas, fiqh literature, and Islamic consumer protection regulations. The findings indicate that the fatwa incorporates maslahah by promoting easier and more inclusive sharia-compliant transactions. However, challenges remain, including ambiguous contracts, price volatility, and inadequate legal safeguards. While the fatwa reflects a positive step toward harmonizing Islamic principles with modern finance, further regulatory enhancement and public education are essential to ensure stronger consumer protection in sharia-based digital gold transactions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) as a digital social product reflecting the transformation of Islamic law in Indonesia amidst an increasingly digitized and complex society. It examines how information technology influences the understanding, interpretation, and application of Islamic legal norms contained in the KHI. This study employs a qualitative method with a field research approach, examining the process of drafting the KHI by considering social and digital factors, including public participation and the development of legal discourse. Field research was conducted to explore the implementation of KHI within Indonesia’s religious court system, focusing on the utilization of digital technology to enhance access, transparency, and efficiency in the enforcement of Islamic law. The findings indicate that KHI functions not only as a formal legal document but also as a dynamic social construction that adapts to the needs of contemporary society and technological developments. However, challenges related to the relevance, flexibility, and formal legal status of KHI within the national legal framework still need to be addressed. The study concludes that reformulating KHI as a digital social product is crucial to responding to the modern legal challenges faced by the Indonesian Muslim community, emphasizing the need for adaptive and inclusive regulations. This contribution plays a strategic role for policymakers and legal practitioners to strengthen the role of KHI in building a responsive, participatory, and contextual Islamic legal system in the digital era.

Abstract

Minangkabau was known for its dominant Islamic education history especially in modern times since the beginning of the twentieth century as a number of so-called madrasah or Islamic educational reforms have been credited to several prominent figures in the region. This region also has a significant history and tradition of matriarchal and matrilineal kinship that relate to women’s position, and their contributions in the public affairs, including in the field of education. Several prominent women from the region have been named as founders of several schools for women, or journalists that campaign for women’s education. This study examines the socio-historical aspects of women and education and the women’s educational movement initiatives from the cases of few female figures such as Rahmah el-Yunusiyyah and others. From a historical perspective and qualitative library research data, this study shows the presence of local female figures in the field of education alongside their male counterparts amidst the kaum muda and kaum tua socio-religious contestation. The socio-local traditions influenced women’s presence and contribution to the public sphere, and those women not only established schools for women but also advocated women’s rights, including their rights for education through journalism and politics.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions and readiness of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in implementing the deep learning concept in active learning. The method used is a qualitative approach through a literature review, where data were collected from various relevant sources such as scientific journals, books, and research articles discussing deep learning concepts, active learning, teacher readiness, and their implications in the context of PAI learning. The analysis was conducted descriptively and critically using content analysis techniques to identify key themes related to teachers’ perceptions, supporting and inhibiting factors of readiness, and the impact of implementing active learning based on deep learning. The findings show that PAI teachers generally have a positive perception of deep learning as an approach capable of deepening understanding and Islamic values meaningfully; however, their readiness to implement it varies and is influenced by competencies, training, technological infrastructure, and institutional policy support. The implications of applying this concept include a shift in teachers’ roles to facilitators, development of interactive and reflective learning designs, and authentic and holistic evaluation methods while considering cultural sensitivity and contextual integration of Islamic values. This study recommends strengthening teacher capacity through continuous training, enhancing technological facilities, and policy synergy to realize transformative, critical, and character-oriented PAI learning in the digital era.
