Abstract

This study addresses the persistent challenge of improving students’ higher-order thinking skills in physics, particularly critical thinking and graphical representation abilities, which remain relatively low in Indonesian high schools. To overcome this issue, a guided inquiry-based e-book integrated with Augmented Reality (AR) was developed and tested within the domain of thermodynamics. The research employed the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages, to ensure the systematic construction of the product. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was applied with three groups: (1) guided inquiry-based e-book assisted by AR, (2) guided inquiry-based e-book without AR, and (3) conventional PowerPoint-based instruction. The product was validated by subject matter experts and practitioners, who confirmed its feasibility across material, media, and design aspects. Student responses indicated that the developed e-book was practical and engaging for classroom use. Effectiveness testing was conducted with 90 students using MANOVA, supported by prerequisite tests for normality, homogeneity, and multicollinearity. The results revealed significant improvements in both critical thinking and graphical representation skills, with the AR-assisted e-book outperforming the other instructional methods and achieving a moderate effect size. These findings highlight the pedagogical potential of integrating AR into guided inquiry-based e-books to foster interactive, student-centered learning environments. Furthermore, the study suggests that such innovations may serve as an effective alternative to traditional physics teaching methods and could be adapted for other physics topics beyond thermodynamics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze research trends, integration models, and the contribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) to problem-solving skills in physics learning. The study employed a systematic literature review (SLR) approach by adapting the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The review process consisted of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion of articles obtained from various scientific databases. A total of 30 articles published between 2019 and 2026 that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using content analysis and thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that computational thinking is the most dominant research focus, while the application of artificial intelligence in education has expanded through adaptive learning media, intelligent tutoring systems, educational chatbots, and interactive digital platforms. The synthesis reveals that artificial intelligence provides adaptive and interactive learning environments, whereas computational thinking supports learners in developing decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithm design skills that facilitate problem-solving processes. Although studies specifically integrating artificial intelligence and computational thinking in physics education remain limited, the reviewed literature highlights their significant potential to enhance students’ problem-solving abilities. This study implies that the integration of artificial intelligence and computational thinking can serve as an alternative instructional strategy in physics education to support the development of twenty-first-century skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an assessment instrument based on local wisdom that covers three domains in physics learning: affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains, especially on temperature and heat topic. This instrument was developed to assess students' understanding of scientific concepts and attitudes after receiving temperature and heat material using interactive e-books, and remains relevant to the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. The research method uses the Research and Development (R&D) approach with development stages including planning, compilation, validation, and limited trials. Data collection techniques include tests and observations. The cognitive instrument is in the form of a pretest and posttest with multiple-choice item types. The affective instrument is a statement to assess scientific attitudes such as curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, openness to criticism, and cooperation. The psychomotor instrument is in the form of an observation sheet to assess students' presentation skills. The results of the validity and reliability tests show that all instruments are included in the good category and are suitable for use, but improvements are needed in terms of the number of respondents and the number of items to produce higher reliability values. The results of this assessment instrument development not only support instructional practices, but also its primary contribution lies in its ability to evaluate the three domains of student assessment comprehensively, while simultaneously enriching the scientific discourse on holistic assessment based on local wisdom in physics education.

Abstract

Android is one of the smartphone operating system platforms that is now widely developed in learning media. Android allows the learning process to be more flexible and not oriented to be teacher center, but it allows to be student center. The Atwood machines is an experimental tool that is often used to observe mechanical laws in constantly accelerated motion which can also be described by the Lagrange mechanics methods. As an innovative and alternative learning activity, Atwood Android-based learning apps are running for two experimental variations, which are variations in load in cart and load masses that are hung. The experiment of load-carrier mass variation found that the larger load mass in the cart, the smaller the acceleration experienced by the system. Meanwhile, the experiment on the variation of the loaded mass found that the larger the loaded mass, the greater the acceleration experienced by the system.

Abstract

Manusia melakukan banyak kegiatan yang menggunakan konsep biomekanika. Biomekanika adalah ilmu yang menjelaskan tentang aspek mekanika dari gerakan tubuh manusia. Ilmu yang menggunakan hukum fisika dan mekanika untuk mendeskripsikan  gerakan pada tubuh dan memahami efek gaya dan momen yang terjadi. Gerak tubuh manusia yang memakai prinsip biomekanika salah satunya adalah kegiatan pada lengan di mana terdapat gaya otot bisep ketika seseorang mengangkat benda atau beban. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh berat beban pada lengan terhadap gaya otot bisep pada seseorang ketika mengangkat sebuah benda bermassa. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian eksperimen Pengukuran gaya otot bisep menggunakan sebuah alat kerangka tangan yang dibuat dari kayu dengan memberikan variasi beban yaitu 0,2 N; 0,4 N; 0,6N; 0,8 N and 1,0 N. Setiap beban yang diberikan di lengan, maka akan diketahui gaya otot bisep yang terukur dengan menggunakan neraca pegas. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara sederhana dan dimasukkan ke dalam grafik. Berdasarkan hasil analisis diketahui bahwa semakin besar berat beban yang diberikan pada lengan maka gaya otot bisep juga akan semakin besar.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze research trends related to flipped classrooms in physics learning from 2019 to 2023 through bibliometric analysis. The research trends consistently show a growing interest in flipped classrooms as a relevant and compelling topic in physics education. Using bibliometric mapping techniques, several distinct clusters were identified, including purple, blue, green, and orange clusters. Key keywords such as flipped classroom, physics, and student emerged as prominent themes. Furthermore, the top five authors and affiliated institutions contributing to this research were identified, with the largest contributions originating from Indonesia. The research was conducted by systematically collecting data from the Scopus database using the keywords "flipped classroom" and "physics" for the selected time frame. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer, focusing on three types of visualizations: network visualization, overlay visualization, and density visualization. Microsoft Excel was used to graph publication trends and document distribution, providing additional insights into the results. The findings of this study highlight the significant potential of flipped classrooms to improve students' understanding of physics learning by employing participatory methodologies and engaging students directly in the learning process.

Abstract

Creative thinking is a critical skill in physics education that enables students to develop effective problem-solving. This study aims to explore various interventions and their effects on enhancing creative thinking skills in physics education through a systematic review and meta-analysis. A keyword search across Scopus and ERIC identified 22 studies that met the criteria and were selected for analysis. The meta-analysis findings indicate that interventions implemented in physics learning significantly enhance creative thinking skills, with a very strong effect size. Among the types of interventions, instructional models demonstrated the largest effect size, highlighting their potential to foster creative thinking. Moderator analysis revealed significant variations across countries of study, sample size, intervention duration, and the physics topics involved. However, no significant differences were found for moderators such as publication type, education level, types of interventions applied, and instruments measuring creative thinking. These findings emphasise the importance of designing and adapting teaching strategies to enhance creative thinking skills in physics learning. This study contributes to strengthening the evidence for integrating creative thinking into physics education to meet the demands of the 21st century.

Abstract

Learning media is a process through which learners acquire knowledge, understanding, and skills in science. Augmented Reality (AR) is a digital technology that integrates manipulable digital images into real-world environments in real time, revolutionizing dynamic learning. Research indicates that mobile-based AR learning media enhance students’ material comprehension and stimulate critical thinking. Critical thinking involves analyzing, evaluating, and logically concluding information, which is a vital skill for informed decision making. Recent studies from 2015 to 2024 highlight the rapid growth of AR research across various disciplines, including Physics Education. To analyze these studies, a bibliometric method was employed, focusing on articles published between 2015 and 2024 in the Scopus database. This analysis identified research trends related to AR’s impact on critical thinking. This study used descriptive bibliometric analysis to evaluate publications on AR and critical thinking. Results revealed a peak in publication trends in 2022 and citation trends in 2020. Taiwan led in research output. Key research areas include AR, VR, and students’ critical thinking. Emerging themes such as STEM, artificial intelligence, nursing education, and game-based learning new research directions. These findings provide a reference for future research on AR in enhancing critical thinking, with potential data sources.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has profoundly influenced the field of education, particularly by enabling learning experiences that are more interactive and conceptually deep. The incorporation of mobile-based learning has emerged as a relevant approach to increase student involvement in mastering complex physics topics, such as sound waves. Accordingly, this study aims to design and evaluate a discovery learning–based physics e-book as an innovative instructional medium for senior high school students. The research adopts the 4D research and development framework—Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate—and involves subject matter experts, media experts, and senior high school students as participants. The sampling technique used purposive sampling for experts and random sampling for students. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires and concept understanding tests, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics with reference to media feasibility criteria tables and N-Gain criteria. The results indicate that the developed e-book achieved an excellent validity level according to media and content experts and received positive feedback from users, making it highly feasible as a learning medium for physics on the topic of sound waves. An N-Gain score of 0.57 indicates a moderate increase in students’ conceptual understanding, showing that the discovery learning–based physics e-book serves as an engaging alternative for enhancing learning experiences. By combining academically relevant content with local cultural values, the e-book helps students relate physics concepts to their cultural context. These findings emphasize the need for innovative and contextual learning media to improve students’ understanding of physics, preserve local wisdom, and enhance the quality of physics education in Indonesia.
