Abstract

This study examines the growing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in English Language Teaching (ELT), particularly in flipped classroom environments, and explores how students perceive its use in higher education. A qualitative case study design was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of students’ experiences in an AI-supported flipped classroom setting. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that AI serves as an effective support tool for pre-class learning, enabling students to understand materials by summarizing texts, simplifying complex explanations, and improving vocabulary comprehension. Additionally, integrating AI enhances students’ Engagement, learning readiness, motivation, and curiosity, as students become more active in classroom discussions after preparing in advance. However, several challenges were identified, including inaccuracies in AI-generated information, the need for verification, overreliance on AI tools, and technical limitations. In conclusion, while AI-integrated flipped learning offers meaningful opportunities to support independent and active learning, its implementation requires responsible, critical use. These findings provide practical insights for educators in designing effective AI-supported flipped classrooms in higher education.

Abstract

Purpose – Fair assessment is a fundamental pillar for ensuring that evaluation results accurately reflect students' abilities without bias. This study aims to identify Differential Item Functioning (DIF) in the Final School Assessment (PAS) instrument for the Chemistry subject, based on four demographic variables: gender, family economic status, residential location, and school of origin.Methodology – This study uses a quantitative design with a descriptive-exploratory approach. The research subjects were responses from 1,840 twelfth-grade students at high schools in Maros Regency. Data analysis was conducted using an Item Response Theory (IRT) approach in R (version 2024.4.2, Build 764). After assumption tests (unidimensionality and local independence) and a model fit test, the 1-Parameter Logistic (1PL) Model was selected as the most suitable. DIF detection was performed using Raju’s Area Measures.Findings – The analysis results showed that the assumptions of unidimensionality and local independence were met. Out of 30 items, five showed statistically significant DIF (p < 0.05): one item based on gender (Item 11), one based on residential location (Item 26), and three based on economic status (Items 19, 23, and 24). No items showed DIF by school of origin. Although statistically detected, the effect size analysis showed that all DIF items fell into Category 'A' (negligible) according to ETS criteria.Contribution – This study provides empirical evidence regarding the fairness of an assessment instrument developed by a teacher association (MGMP). It highlights how non-academic factors can manifest as measurable differences in performance. This study affirms the importance of DIF analysis as a standard procedure in the quality assurance of assessment instruments to maintain fairness for all students.

Abstract

Jembrana disease is one of the important infectious diseases affecting bali cattle and may cause economic losses for farmers due to decreased productivity, treatment costs, and livestock mortality. Farmers’ limited knowledge of clinical symptoms, transmission routes, risk factors, and preventive measures remains one of the challenges in controlling this disease at the smallholder farming level. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and awareness of Jembrana disease in Bali cattle in Alebo Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. The activity was conducted on November 24, 2025, at the Alebo Village Hall and involved 40 participants, consisting of the village head, village officials, and members of the Sumber Rejeki Livestock Farmers Group. The method used in this activity included direct education, discussion, question-and-answer sessions, and evaluation of participants’ understanding. The materials delivered covered an introduction to Jembrana disease, clinical symptoms, transmission routes, risk factors, barn biosecurity, vektor control, quarantine of newly introduced cattle, case reporting, and the importance of vaccination. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic in attending the activity and gained a better understanding of Jembrana disease prevention. This educational activity encouraged farmers to independently implement preventive measures, such as maintaining barn hygiene, controlling blood-sucking insects, separating sick animals, and coordinating with animal health officers. Therefore, this educational activity plays an important role in improving farmers’ capacity to prevent the spread of Jembrana disease in Bali cattle.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a Semester Final Examination (UAS) test instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) for the IPAS subject in the 4th grade of Elementary School. The background of this research is the still low ability of students' higher-order thinking, caused by the dominance of Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) based questions in learning evaluation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an assessment instrument that can measure students' critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with a development model that includes the stages of needs analysis, design, product development, expert validation, testing, and product revision. Validation was conducted by 2 validators consisting of subject matter experts and evaluation experts, while the instrument trial was carried out on 30 fourth-grade elementary school students. The validation results showed that the instrument received a very valid category with a feasibility percentage of 89%, while the reliability results indicated a reliability coefficient of 0.87 with a high category. The developed instrument consists of HOTS-based UAS questions on the IPAS material for fourth-grade elementary school students and is deemed suitable for use after undergoing the validation and revision process. This instrument is also deemed capable of measuring students' higher-order thinking skills more effectively compared to conventional instruments. The main contribution of this research is to produce a valid, reliable, and practical HOTS-based evaluation instrument to improve the quality of IPAS learning assessments in elementary schools.
