Abstract

Mental strategies are recognized as an effective approach for solving arithmetic operations such as addition and subtraction. This study focuses on developing and implementing instructional activities aimed at enhancing students' mental strategy skills through the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (IRME) approach. The research employed a design-based methodology involving 2nd-grade students from an Islamic-integrated school in Surabaya. The study followed a research design that emphasizes the development of local instructional theory, encompassing three key phases: the preparatory phase (initial design development), the experimental phase (classroom teaching experiments), and the retrospective analysis phase. Data collection methods included documentation, field notes, and interviews. In the first trial, three instructional activities were conducted. Based on the analysis of the first trial, the number of activities in the second trial was increased to four: "Let's Get Used to Alms Every Day," "Don't Forget Routine Alms This Week," "Set Your Own Pocket Money," and "Let's Give Away Your Alms to Break Mr. Samad’s Fast." These activities were designed to achieve specific mathematical objectives, enabling students to understand and solve addition and subtraction problems using strategies such as skip counting, borrowing, and saving. The retrospective analysis concluded that students successfully learned to perform addition and subtraction operations on both monetary values and ordinary numbers within the designed learning trajectory.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the numeracy skills and self-confidence profiles of fifth-grade elementary school students in the Merdeka Belajar era. The research employs a quantitative descriptive approach, using numeracy tests and self-confidence measurement scales as the primary instruments. The numeracy test consists of five questions aligned with key indicators of geometry, including spatial visualization and area and perimeter calculations, while the self-confidence scale assesses six aspects, such as initiative, public speaking ability, and resilience in the face of challenges. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, complemented by descriptive statistics, including percentages and averages. The findings reveal that the average numeracy score is 60.42, categorized as low, with 68.6% of students in the low category, 22.8% in the medium category, and only 8.6% in the high category. Similarly, self-confidence levels are low for 34.3% of students, medium for 28.6%, and high for 22.9%. Further analysis shows that limited self-confidence significantly hampers students’ ability to solve numeracy problems, especially in spatial reasoning and geometric calculations. To address these challenges, it is recommended that educators adopt innovative teaching strategies, such as utilizing interactive tools like GeoGebra, incorporating collaborative learning methods, and implementing real-life problem-solving tasks to build both numeracy skills and self-confidence. These strategies align with the Merdeka Belajar framework, promoting active and meaningful learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs.

Abstract

The lack of student participation in multiplication learning in elementary schools is still a challenge for educators. One approach that can be used to increase student engagement and understanding is gamification, which is the integration of game elements in the learning process. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the use of Wordwall media in multiplication learning through a case study in grade III UPT SD Negeri 30 Gresik. The study highlights how the Multiplication Balloon Burst game can increase student engagement, as well as develop their critical thinking skills in solving math problems. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data is collected through observation of classroom activities, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of student participation during digital game-based learning. The results show that the use of Wordwall games significantly increases student motivation, creates a more interactive learning environment, and improves understanding of multiplication concepts. In addition, the findings indicate that the integration of gamification elements, such as the scoring system and in-game challenges, can encourage students to participate more actively and think critically in solving multiplication problems. This study concludes that the use of digital-based educational games in mathematics learning can be an effective alternative in improving student learning outcomes. Furthermore, the game also facilitates collaborative learning and assists students in developing critical thinking skills. Therefore, educators are advised to consider the application of gamification in their teaching strategies to improve student engagement as well as their learning outcomes in various other mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest in learning of fifth grade students in mathematics, limited teaching materials that facilitate students in constructing their knowledge, especially teaching materials based on ethnomathematics, and students are still difficulties in solving mathematical problems related to geometry. The purpose of this study was to produce an ethnomathematics-based geometry learning module in class V and describe its quality in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The module specifications developed are, (1) An ethnomathematics-based geometry learning module which contains geometry material for grade V Elementary School students which consists of 3 learning activities, namely recognizing flat shapes, identifying shapes and elements of flat shapes, and identifying relationship between flat shapes, (2) The developed learning module contains woven fabric motifs in Sikka village which are integrated into geometry material in class V so that it can make it easier for students to understand the contents of the module. The research procedure adapts the ADDIE development model, namely the development model which consists of five stages which include analysis (analyze), design(development), implementation (implementation), and evaluation (evaluation). In terms of validity, based on the validation results of media experts and material experts, at least they get a good score so that they are included in the valid category. From a practical standpoint, based on the practicality assessment sheet by the teacher as a minimum user, he gets a good score. Based on the student response questionnaire 96% chose to strongly agree and 4% chose to agree so that the learning module was declared practical. In terms of effectiveness, after going through the implementation phase, a pre-test score of 49.37 and a post-test score of 79.06 were obtained with a presentation of 100% student learning completeness. Then the test results using the N-gain obtained a value of 0.83 which is based on the N-gain including high and very effective. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the ethnomathematics-based geometry learning module in class V using the ADDIE development model meets valid, practical, and effective criteria so it is feasible to use.

Abstract

Profil Pelajar Pancasila is a Standar Kompetensi Lulusan (SKL) it is mean a Graduate Competency Standard which refers to the character and competencies that Indonesian students are expected to have. This profile consists of six dimensions: faith, devotion to God Almighty, noble character; global diversity; collaboration; creativity; critical thinking; and independence. This profile reflects the quality of the generation by the National Education Goals and acts as the main reference that directs education policies. Character is the main part that must be built to realize student welfare. However, on the other hand, the results of the National Assessment through the 2022 Character Survey show that the rate of bullying is still quite high, namely 36.31% of students have the potential to experience bullying, which means 1 in 3 children experience bullying at school. This research method is a position paper with a literary study approach, aimed at conveying the author's view or position on a particular topic or issue. In this research, starting with identifying issues or problems related to the Pancasila student profile and its application to overcome bullying in educational units is the first step in this research project. In addition, this research aims to investigate the glocalization process in the profile of Pancasila students by collecting evidence using literary studies.
