Abstract

The problems of UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan undergraduate graduates are: 1) The ratio of graduate acceptance in the job market is still low, namely 49.97% percent, 2) The waiting period for UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan students after graduation still exceeds the maximum standard of 6 (six) months. 3) The condition of the integrated laboratory at UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan is still far from the standard of education services based on Government Regulation Number 57 of 2021 concerning National Education Standards. As a solution to this problem, it is important to improve the quality of facilities, infrastructure and learning at UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. The development of laboratory facilities and infrastructure at UIN Syahada is a very important policy in overcoming problems and improving the quality of education in meeting educational service standards at UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of creative thinking has emerged as a central objective in contemporary mathematics education, reflecting the need to cultivate higher-order cognitive competencies essential for twenty-first-century learning. While ethnomathematics provides culturally situated contexts that enhance the relevance and meaning of mathematical concepts, augmented reality (AR) offers advanced visualization and engagement opportunities that enrich learning experiences. Nevertheless, empirical investigations that integrate challenge-based learning, ethnomathematics, and AR-assisted media remain scarce. Moreover, limited attention has been given to understanding how students’ self-efficacy influences creative thinking within such an integrative pedagogical framework. This study seeks to evaluate the pedagogical quality of a challenge-based ethnomathematics model supported by an Augmented Reality Comic Book in fostering students’ creative thinking abilities. Specifically, it examines the effect of self-efficacy on creative thinking performance within this model and characterizes students’ creative thinking profiles across different self-efficacy levels. A mixed-methods design employing a concurrent embedded strategy was implemented. Data were collected through creative thinking assessments, self-efficacy questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using inferential statistical techniques, while qualitative data underwent systematic analysis through data reduction, display, conclusion drawing, and triangulation procedures. The findings indicate that the proposed instructional model satisfies established quality criteria. Students’ self-efficacy accounts for 52.1% of the variance in creative thinking, with higher self-efficacy levels associated with stronger manifestations of fluency, flexibility, and originality. These results provide empirical evidence for the efficacy of culturally grounded, technology-enhanced challenge-based learning in strengthening students’ creative mathematical competencies and advancing contemporary pedagogical practice.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning are still relatively low, mainly because the learning process is not contextual and student-centered. This study aims to develop mathematics teaching materials with an ethnomathematics nuance using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to improve students’ critical thinking skills on the topic of angle relationships for seventh-grade junior high school students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE stages (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects of this study were students of class VII C. The research instruments consisted of expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and a critical thinking skills test. The results of expert validation indicated that the teaching materials fell into the “very valid” category with an average score of 3.54. Student responses showed the teaching materials to be “very practical” with an average score of 3.58, while teacher responses also indicated “very practical” with an average score of 3.7. The effectiveness test showed an increase in students’ pretest and posttest scores, as evidenced by the N-gain results, although only within the medium category. In addition, 50% of students achieved learning mastery above the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM).

Abstract

Islamic education in the era of globalization faces complex challenges characterized by VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) conditions, which necessitate madrasas to transform into competitive institutions without compromising their religious identity. This study aims to analyze the theoretical construction of integrating international curricula and Islamic character values within the framework of transformational leadership in madrasas. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study performs a content analysis of relevant primary and secondary literature. The findings indicate that the integration of international curricula, such as the Cambridge standard or the International Class Program (ICP), serves as a fundamental quality differentiation strategy to enhance the global competitiveness of madrasas. Concurrently, the internalization of Islamic character values acts as a cultural and ideological filter, preserving the Muslim identity of students amidst the currents of modernization. The success of this synergistic integration is heavily dependent on transformational leadership, which functions as a cultural architect by providing intellectual stimulation for educators and communicating an integrative vision that unites global academic standards with noble Islamic values. This study concludes that strengthening transformational leadership capacity is a strategic investment for realizing madrasas that are superior, competitive, and consistently religious in the era of disruption

Abstract

The mastery of English tenses remains a significant challenge for many EFL learners, often exacerbated by traditional, abstract pedagogical methods that contribute to cognitive overload and performance anxiety. This study investigates the efficacy of food-based mnemonic acronyms as a cognitive scaffold to facilitate the learning and retention of grammatical structures. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study employs thematic analysis to examine the cognitive and affective shifts in the learning processes of four university students—BAW, PRN, JMM, and SDK—selected based on their diverse academic backgrounds and challenges with tense acquisition. The thematic analysis reveals that these associative tools function as vital "mental hooks," successfully lowering learners' affective filters and enhancing linguistic retrieval. The findings demonstrate a consistent transition from rote memorization and learning fatigue toward spontaneous, accurate, and organized linguistic production. Ultimately, this research provides empirical evidence that integrating creative, association-based mnemonics into the curriculum can improve grammatical fluency and transform the learning experience from a burdensome task into a structured and engaging cognitive process.
