Abstract

This study aims to identify students’ mathematical higher order thinking skills (HOTS) through the implementation of a Flipped Classroom model grounded in the Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework and supported by dynamic assessment. A mixed method approach with a concurrent embedded design was employed. The study involved 32 prospective mathematics teachers, divided evenly into an experimental group (n = 16) receiving TPACK based Flipped Classroom instruction with dynamic assessment and a control group (n = 16) receiving conventional instruction. HOTS were measured using a validated essay based test aligned with indicators of interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and problem solving. For the qualitative phase, three students representing high, medium, and low prior ability levels were purposively selected. Data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired and independent samples t-tests and N-Gain, while qualitative data were examined using open coding and thematic analysis. Descriptive results showed higher posttest scores for the experimental group (M = 74.3, SD = 10.4) compared to the control group (M = 55.1, SD = 9.0). The independent samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between groups (p < .05), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.65) and a moderate N-Gain of 0.58 in the experimental group. Qualitative findings revealed that the high ability student demonstrated complete alignment with HOTS indicators through coherent modeling and proof strategies, while the medium ability student exhibited accurate procedural reasoning and partial conceptual explanation. The low ability student showed limited abstraction but demonstrated incremental improvement through scaffolded feedback. The combined findings show that integrating TPACK based Flipped Classroom instruction with dynamic assessment supports deeper mathematical reasoning by linking pre class technological engagement with in class mediated learning. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating how dynamic assessment operationalized within a TPACK aligned flipped environment can strengthen students’ HOTS across varying ability levels.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of the mathematics curriculum in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, developed by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA). A qualitative descriptive approach using document analysis was applied to examine the NESA K–12 mathematics syllabuses (2021–2024). The analysis covered four main dimensions: philosophical, structural, pedagogical, and evaluative. Findings reveal that the NESA mathematics curriculum reflects a humanistic-progressive philosophy, positioning mathematics as a means of logical and reflective reasoning through the Working Mathematically framework. The curriculum adopts a spiral and flexible structure, ensuring vertical continuity from Kindergarten to Stage 6 through differentiated pathways (Standard, Advanced, Life Skills, Extension 1–2, and Numeracy). Pedagogical implementation emphasizes inquiry-based, contextual, and technology-integrated learning, while the assessment system applies performance bands and evidence-based evaluation to ensure fairness and inclusivity. This model provides valuable insights for strengthening Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka, fostering a reflective, inclusive, and competence-oriented mathematics education.

Abstract

This study examines efforts to revitalize the lexicon of flora and fauna in the Madurese language as a form of both linguistic preservation and safeguarding of endangered indigenous ecological wisdom. Employing ecolinguistic and linguistic ethnographic approaches, the research analyzes natural lexicons that are disappearing due to language shift, modernization, and environmental degradation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with native speakers, analysis of traditional documents (folklore, mantras, and proverbs), and participatory observation in Madurese communities. The findings reveal that: (1) Madurese flora-fauna lexicons embody complex ecological concepts, such as medicinal plant classifications and wildlife knowledge systems; (2) The threat of lexicon extinction is driven by sociolinguistic factors (dominance of Indonesian) and ecological pressures (land-use changes); (3) Effective revitalization strategies include integration into local-content education, digital documentation, and reinforcement of environmentally rooted customary practices. The study concludes that preserving Madurese natural lexicons is not merely a linguistic concern but also a critical resistance to socio-ecological crises. These findings recommend an interdisciplinary approach combining linguistics and political ecology to restore the relationship between language, indigenous knowledge, and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The development of creative thinking has emerged as a central objective in contemporary mathematics education, reflecting the need to cultivate higher-order cognitive competencies essential for twenty-first-century learning. While ethnomathematics provides culturally situated contexts that enhance the relevance and meaning of mathematical concepts, augmented reality (AR) offers advanced visualization and engagement opportunities that enrich learning experiences. Nevertheless, empirical investigations that integrate challenge-based learning, ethnomathematics, and AR-assisted media remain scarce. Moreover, limited attention has been given to understanding how students’ self-efficacy influences creative thinking within such an integrative pedagogical framework. This study seeks to evaluate the pedagogical quality of a challenge-based ethnomathematics model supported by an Augmented Reality Comic Book in fostering students’ creative thinking abilities. Specifically, it examines the effect of self-efficacy on creative thinking performance within this model and characterizes students’ creative thinking profiles across different self-efficacy levels. A mixed-methods design employing a concurrent embedded strategy was implemented. Data were collected through creative thinking assessments, self-efficacy questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using inferential statistical techniques, while qualitative data underwent systematic analysis through data reduction, display, conclusion drawing, and triangulation procedures. The findings indicate that the proposed instructional model satisfies established quality criteria. Students’ self-efficacy accounts for 52.1% of the variance in creative thinking, with higher self-efficacy levels associated with stronger manifestations of fluency, flexibility, and originality. These results provide empirical evidence for the efficacy of culturally grounded, technology-enhanced challenge-based learning in strengthening students’ creative mathematical competencies and advancing contemporary pedagogical practice.
