Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know the effect of using flashcards for teaching vocabulary of the third graders at a public elementary school in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. This study used quantitative research with a pre-experimental design by applying pre-test and post-test instruments. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Independent T-test formula test to determine the difference between pre-test and post-test on the students’ achievement using flashcards. In the pre-test value there is an average value of 50 and the post-test value has an average value of 66 while for the t-test value of 7.615 was higher than t-table 2.003 at the level of significant 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df ) 56. The results of this study found that the use of flashcards had an effect on the students’ achievement of the vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Biobriquette is a solid fuel derived from raw materials that can be renewed continuously because it is made from a mixture of biomass such as wood, twigs, leaves, grass, straw and other agricultural wastes. The research aims to examine the effect of variations in the composition of raw materials and particle sizes were 50 mesh, 70 mesh, 100 mesh, and 120 mesh. This research was started by carrying out the pyrolysis process on the raw material with temperature 350 oC for sixty minutes, then the refined pyrolysis charcoal powder was mixed with starch adhesive 10% of the weight of the raw material which was then manually pressed cylindrical. The measurement results in this research were compared with quality parameters based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI), Japan, England, and America. The best result for this research is obtained at a ratio of rubber fruit shells and wood twigs 1:5 with a particle size of 100 mesh, that is with inherent moisture of 4.50%, ash content of 2.19%, volatile matter of 13.73%, density 2.2502 g/cm3, and caloric value 6,653.60 cal/g.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how teachers apply the Role-Playing learning model for teaching speaking of the eight grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Tanggulangin. In addition, the study also scrutinizes how students perceive if this method is applied in speaking class. Some of the eighth graders still do not master English. The situation is due to several factors from students, such as students' lack of confidence to speak English and lack of vocabulary knowledge, so students feel insecure when they want to speak English. Most of them need help speaking a foreign language since it differs from their everyday language. They need to be more confident in speaking English. In this study, the researchers used qualitative methods to describe the results of their research using observations and interviews. This research shows that teaching speaking with the role-playing model is very effective as a medium for teaching and learning English. Using the roleplaying model, students become more motivated and active in class.

Abstract

Supporting Digital Era Through Implementation of Discovery Learning and TPACK Framework to Increase Student’s Learning Outcomes and Interest. This study aims to increase student’s interest and learning outcome by implementing discovery learning and the TPACK framework in chemical bonding material. This study is a collaborative class action research with quantitative and qualitative methods. The subjects of this study were 33 students of XI-3 from Senior High School 6 Surabaya. The instruments used in this study were pre-research questionnaire sheets, teaching modules using the discovery learning model and TPACK framework, interest questionnaires, student activity observation sheets, and posttest sheets per cycle. The research was conducted in three cycles. The data analyzed descriptively and obtained were learning using discovery learning and TPACK among cycles 1, 2 dan 3 experienced an increase in student’s learning outcomes and interest supported with the increasing of activity in observed stimulus, involved in problem statements, accessed materials and technology, analyzed and processed data, and presented the result. The average of learning outcomes in cycle 1 was 77 and went up to 90 and 97 in cycles 2 and 3 while the classical mastery from all cycles went up from 67% to 91% and 100%. Student’s interest in learning chemistry also went up through each cycle seeing through the percentage of the number of students in the high interest category from 21% in cycle 1 to 58% in cycle 2 and 87% in cycle 3. From these data on student’s learning outcomes and interest, it can be concluded that the implementation of discovery learning and the TPACK framework was effective to increase the student’s learning outcomes and interest in chemistry class.DOI: 10.23960/jppk.v12.i3.2023.02
