Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion or insulin action. The global prevalence of DM continues to rise, with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) being the most common form. Effective management of T2DM involves both pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies, with nutritional therapy playing a pivotal role in maintaining blood glucose levels. Structured nutrition education has proven beneficial in enhancing dietary habits and improving glycemic control in T2DM patients. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of health education on nutritional restrictions in T2DM patients at the Pakuan Baru Public Health Center, Jambi City. The study employed a descriptive case study design, using a nursing care approach that included assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. A single participant, Mrs. Y, diagnosed with T2DM, was selected based on specific inclusion criteria. The study utilized a pre- and post-test questionnaire to measure the patient’s knowledge of nutritional restrictions. Before the intervention, Mrs. Y demonstrated limited knowledge of appropriate dietary practices for managing T2DM. Following a structured health education session, the patient’s knowledge significantly improved, as indicated by an increase in test scores from 46.6% to 80%. The findings suggest that personalized health education can effectively enhance patients’ understanding of dietary restrictions, leading to improved self-management of T2DM. This highlights the importance of incorporating health education into routine care for chronic conditions like diabetes. Future research should explore the long-term effects of such educational interventions and expand the sample size to further validate these findings.

Abstract

Speaking skill is considered the most difficult to learn. On the other hand, speaking subject is considered a failure in providing competence to students. This can be proven by the lack of student's ability to speak Arabic and the value of learning outcomes. This study aimed to develop cybernetic-based kalam materials that can be used by students at the junior high school level as innovations in the use of teaching materials and learning theory. This research used the R&D method by adapting the six steps of Borg and Gall model development. Meanwhile, a small group trial was conducted on 24 students of an Islamic junior high school in Ogan Ilir, using by purposive random sampling technique. This research resulted in kalam material products using the Canva application. The validation of material experts is 84% and media experts get 90.76% so it can be concluded that the product developed is suitable for use with the revisions suggested by validators.  Based on the comparison of pretest results showed an average of 48.33 and the post-test results were 78.33. Then continued with the nonparametric test, namely the Wilcoxon test. This test was chosen because the data is not distributed normally. Asimp Wilcoxon. Sage. (2-tailed) equals 0.000. Since the value of 0.000 is less than 0.05, it can be concluded that the "hypothesis is acceptable". The results of the effectiveness test showed the development of Cybernetic-based speaking materials in improving knowledge and skills in speaking languages.

Abstract

Background: Chest pain is the most common and distressing symptom experienced by patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), often requiring rapid and effective management. While pharmacological therapies are standard, integrating non-pharmacological interventions such as thermotherapy may enhance pain control and patient comfort. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of thermotherapy in reducing pain levels among patients with ACS. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 36 patients diagnosed with ACS at a hospital in Indonesia. Participants were divided equally into an intervention group (n = 18), who received thermotherapy in addition to standard care, and a control group (n = 18), who received standard care alone. Pain intensity was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analysed using paired t-tests to compare pre- and post-intervention pain levels within each group, and independent t-tests to assess differences between groups. Results: The intervention group showed a statistically significant reduction in pain levels after receiving thermotherapy (p < 0.001). In contrast, the control group showed no significant change in pain levels (p = 0.088). Between-group analysis using an independent t-test revealed a significant difference in post-intervention pain scores (p < 0.001), indicating the effectiveness of thermotherapy. Conclusion: Thermotherapy is effective in reducing chest pain in patients with ACS and can be considered a complementary nursing intervention alongside standard care.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and learning outcomes of ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 26 Makassar in understanding the content of short stories through the application of the Jigsaw learning model. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques include observation to observe student activities and involvement during the learning process, tests conducted before and after learning to measure the increase in student understanding of the content of short stories, questionnaires to collect student responses regarding the effectiveness of the Jigsaw model application, and documentation as complementary data to support the validity of the research results. Data from observations, questionnaires, and documentation were analyzed qualitatively, while test data were analyzed quantitatively using the average value and the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) as a reference. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in students' reading ability. In cycle I, the average value of student learning outcomes was 67.67, still below the specified KKM of 75. After improvements and strengthening strategies were made in cycle II, the average value increased to 80.17. This indicates that the Jigsaw learning model is effective in improving the reading skills of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 26 Makassar, particularly in understanding the content of short stories.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the communication skills of children with Down syndrome at Selayar State Special Needs School (SLB Negeri Selayar). This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects were children with Down syndrome identified as experiencing communication barriers. Data analysis techniques used in this study included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that children with Down syndrome at Selayar State Special Needs School (SLB Negeri Selayar) are better able to communicate nonverbally than verbally. The verbal communication skills of children with Down syndrome at Selayar State Special Needs School (SLB Negeri Selayar) are still relatively low. Children communicate more frequently nonverbally through touch, chronemics, body movements, and facial expressions. Among these nonverbal communication skills, there is still one form of communication that they have not yet mastered: chronemics, or the ability to manage time when speaking. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as evaluation material and references in analyzing communication skills, particularly in children with Down syndrome.
