Abstract

Noni contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tripertinoid, protein, lime, iron, carotene, glycosides antarkiron. The content of anthraquinin, scaloptin, flavonoid and adaptogen compounds are active compounds that have antifungal and antimicrobial effects. The antibiotics commonly used are antibiotics such as tetracycline, clindamycin and others. These chemical-based antibacterials have many negative side effects, therefore other alternatives are needed as antibacterials, one of which is by using noni. This study aims to analyze bioautography and determine the antibacterial activity of noni leaf ethanol extract against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. This research was conducted experimentally using noni leaf ethanol extract with concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50% as independent variables and bioautographic analysis and antibacterial activity as dependent variables. The bioautography analysis was performed using TLC and the antibacterial activity test was performed using paper discs. The results of antibacterial testing of noni leaf ethanol extract with a concentration of 30% had an inhibition zone of 8.36 mm with a medium category, a concentration of 40% had an inhibition zone of 10.3 mm with a strong category and a concentration of 50% had an inhibition zone of 11.1 mm in a strong category. positive control tetracycline 30µg had an inhibition zone of 20.8 mm which was categorized as very strong. The results of the bioautography test using contact bioautography using the mobile phase of chloroform: n-hexane (7:3). The inhibition zone was obtained at an Rf value of 0.17, and the characteristics of the chromatogram spots were carried out by spraying 10% FeCl3 suspected that the spots were flavonoid compounds.

Abstract

Curry leaf (Murraya koenigii (L) Spreng) is one of the plants known to have antibacterial compounds. Curry leaves are also known as temurui leaves and are useful as a natural food flavoring. Curry leaves contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, calcium, zinc, riboflavin, folic acid. This study aimed to analyze the bioautography and antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of curry leaves against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The research method was carried out experimentally. Curry leaf simplicia extract was made with 96% ethanol as solvent. Curry leaf ethanol extract was made in various concentrations, namely 30%, 40% and 50%. The positive control used was Tetracycline HCl and the negative control was DMSO. The tests carried out on curry leaf simplicia included phytochemical screening, macroscopic examination, microscopic examination, water content examination, examination of water soluble extract content, examination of ethanol soluble extract content, examination of ash content and examination of acid insoluble ash content, bioautographic analysis he results of phytochemical screening showed that curry leaves contain secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids, and glycosides. The results of the antibacterial activity showed that curry leaves could be used as antibacterial because they had strong inhibition at concentrations of 30%, 40% and 50%, namely 10.3 mm, 11.7 mm and 13.6 mm against P. acnes bacteria. The results of bioatuography showed that the Rf value in the clear zone was 0.17 with a ratio of chloroform:n-Hexane (8:2) on the chromatogram spots by spraying 10% FeCl3 positive for flavonoid compounds which were marked in black.

Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f.) is widely used as an alternative medicine to treat various types of diseases and is now widely used as an antibacterial, one of which is against the acne bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. The purpose of this study was to determine the gel preparation of aloe vera extract (Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f.) which has activity against  Propionibacterium acnes and to see if the gel preparation produced has good and stable quality. Aloe vera ethanol extract was made by maceration method, then the extract was made in a gel preparation and then tested for antibacterial activity against  Propionibacterium acnes by the agar diffusion method using several concentration variations: 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Furthermore, the inhibitory power of 2.5% has a medium category, the inhibition of 5% has a medium category, and the inhibition of 10% has a strong category. then tested for organoleptic, homogeneity test, pH dispersion and physical stability of the preparation. The results of the study showed that the gel preparation of aloe vera extract had antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes, namely a concentration of 2.5% inhibition zone of 8.8 mm including the medium category, 5% concentration of the inhibitory zone of 9.8 mm including the medium category, the concentration of 10 % with an inhibition zone of 12.9 mm including the strong category. The conclusion of this study is that the gel preparation of 10% aloe vera ethanol extract concentration has the best inhibition. Then the stability test was then carried out, which included, the organoleptic did not change significantly, the homogeneity test showed good results, while the dispersion test showed good results, and the pH test showed good results according to skin pH.

Abstract

Free radicals induce oxidative stress, which plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various degenerative diseases. Abelmoschus manihot L., locally known as green gedi, is recognized for its rich secondary metabolite content with potential antioxidant properties. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of green gedi leaves using the Cupric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC) method. Extraction was conducted via maceration using a 90% hydroalcoholic solvent, followed by comprehensive phytochemical screening and simplicia characterization. The antioxidant capacity was quantified by determining the IC50 value through linear regression analysis of inhibition percentage versus concentration. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids/steroids. The hydroalcoholic extract exhibited "very strong" antioxidant activity, yielding an IC50 value of 41.65 ± 0.30 µg/mL. Although this potency was slightly lower than the pure quercetin standard, it demonstrates a significant capacity for free radical neutralization. These findings underscore the potential of Abelmoschus manihot L. as a robust natural antioxidant source, supporting its further development into phytopharmaceuticals or functional health supplements for the prevention of oxidative stress-related conditions.
