Abstract

ABSTRACT Medical Certificate Cause of Death (MCCD) or death certificate is a letter made by the hospital and filled out by the doctor in charge to explain that someone has died. The standard format and instructions for filling out death certificates in Indonesia are issued by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia. In practice, several hospitals in Indonesia produce death certificates that do not comply with the standard format and do not follow the instructions for filling out the information issued by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, so that death certificates are often filled out incompletely. This literature review aims to determine the suitability of the format and completeness of filling out a death certificate as well as the factors causing discrepancies and incomplete filling. This research takes the form of a literature review using provider databases, such as Google Scholar and nationally accredited journal sites with the keywords "Medical Cause of Death Certificate (MCCD)", "Death Certificate", and "Death Certificate (SKK)". The results showed that a total of 4 articles were related to the format of death certificates and 8 articles were related to the completeness of filling out death certificates from 2013-2023. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the format of death certificates issued by hospitals in Indonesia still does not follow the standard format of the Research and Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Overall, the completeness of filling out death certificates in several hospitals in Indonesia is still low. Factors causing format discrepancies are the hospital's ignorance of the standard format and the hospital's failure to evaluate and change the death certificate format. Factors causing incomplete filling in are the absence of guidelines for filling out, the absence of regulations and SOPs for filling out death certificates, lack of attention, and quantitative analysis that has not been optimal. Abstract

Background: Indonesia is an endemic region for Dengue infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported Dengue as one of the top ten global health threats in 2020. Dengue is a viral infection transmitted primarily by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, causing Dengue Fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. Temephos 1.25% has been the WHO recommended standard larvicide. However, prolonged use and continuously increasing doses may result in resistance and toxicity, posing risks to the environment and human health. This necessitates the discovery of alternative larvicides that are effective in killing larvae with minimal side effects, particularly those derived from natural materials. Methods: This research intends to illustrate the impact of papaya seed extract on the death rate of larvae and the histopathological changes in the midgut of Ae. aegypti larvae. A genuine experimental framework featuring a control group with only post-testing was utilized for this investigation. The sample comprised 750 Ae. aegypti larvae, which were categorized into six groups: one negative control group (aquades), one positive control group (temephos 1. 25%), and four treatment groups using papaya seed extract at varying concentrations of 2 mg/ml (P1), 2. 5 mg/ml (P2), 3 mg/ml (P3), and 3. 5 mg/ml (P4). Results: The results showed that all larvaes died within 24 hours in the positive control, P1, P2, P3, and P4 groups. Probit analysis of papaya seed extract revealed LC50 at 2.599 mg/ml and LC90 at 4.776 mg/ml after 8 hours of exposure. Conclusion: This study concludes that papaya seed extract affects larval mortality and midgut histopathology alterations in Ae.aegypti larvae. These findings indicate that papaya seed extract holds great potential as a natural and environmentally safe as alternative larvicide to disrupt the development of dengue fever vectors.

Abstract

The balance of the gut microbiota during pregnancy is essential for maintaining maternal health and supporting optimal fetal development. Fermented goat’s milk contains naturally occurring probiotics that contribute to microbiota homeostasis and improved maternal nutritional status. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fermented goat’s milk consumption on newborn anthropometric outcomes. Two group pretest posttest control was applied involving 15 third-trimester pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria. Participants consumed 75 mL of fermented goat’s milk daily for a period of 9–12 weeks. Maternal characteristics and neonatal anthropometric parameters were collected through structured observations and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using paired statistical tests. The findings demonstrated statistically significant improvements (p < 0.05) in neonatal birth weight, body length, and head circumference following the intervention. These results indicate that fermented goat’s milk may positively influence fetal growth without inducing gut microbiota dysbiosis. Further studies employing controlled designs and larger sample sizes are warranted to confirm these findings and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of growth failure in toddlers due to chronic malnutrition and chronic infections, including worm infections and giardiasis. Kampung Baru Nan XX Village, Lubuk Begalung District, Padang City, is one of the areas with a high stunting rate. Education related to the prevention and treatment of this infectious disease is needed to improve public understanding in order to break the chain of causes of stunting. This counseling activity aims to improve public knowledge, especially mothers of toddlers, about the relationship between worm infections and giardiasis with stunting and preventive measures. The methods used are interactive lectures and discussions. The counseling involved mothers of toddlers and integrated health post cadres in the area. From the examination of 20 feces samples of toddlers in this area, no positive cases of worm infections and giardiasis were found. The results of this activity showed a good understanding of the participants regarding the importance of environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, and providing nutritious food to children. This counseling is effective in increasing public awareness regarding worm infections and giardiasis as risk factors for stunting. Follow-up activities can be carried out in the form of monitoring and providing nutritional interventions to support sustainable stunting prevention in this region.

Abstract

Our community service activity aimed to increase knowledge and awareness about the dangers of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals,” which are commonly found in household products, food packaging, and cosmetics. Long-term exposure to PFAS has been associated with numerous serious health effects, including an increased risk of several cancers, disruption of hormone homeostasis, liver toxicity, impaired immune function, and adverse reproductive and developmental outcomes.  The participants included housewives and adolescent girls (n = 20) who attended Padang Pasir Community Health Center, East Padang, Padang on 6 September 2025. An interactive educational session was conducted using a pre-test–post-test design to evaluate changes in knowledge and awareness. Analysis of participants who completed both assessments showed an improvement in knowledge following the intervention, with the greatest increases observed in understanding of healthy cooking utensils (50%) and the presence of persistent chemicals in cosmetics (50%). However, evaluation of awareness levels revealed only a minimal increase in median scores (from 57 to 60), which was not statistically significant (p = 0.221). We conclude that a focused educational session is effective in improving participants’ cognitive knowledge, but a more comprehensive and sustained approach is needed to promote meaningful behavioral change and deeper awareness, particularly since practicality and convenience remain major considerations when choosing household products, food packaging, and cosmetics.
