Abstract

Critical thinking and concept mastery is an important ability for every student to have. So, educators need to get information about the level of skills possessed by student. This study aims to describe the initial level of critical thinking skills and mastery of students' concepts, as well as the relationship between critical thinking skills and mastery of students' concepts on earth structure material in class VIII at SMP Negeri 2 Namang. The methodology used in the research is descriptive quantitative, using a critical thinking ability test and concept mastery test, and qualitative, using interviews. Students' critical thinking and concept mastery tests showed an average score of 43.78 and 55.94, with a fairly low category. The average value of the inference indicator was 25.97, and the indicator of making further explanations was 37.01. Both are the lowest indicators that still need to be improved. In contrast, the average value of the strategy and tactics indicator is 73.95, which is in the high category. The significance value obtained is <0.001, which indicates that there is a strong, significant, and directly proportional relationship between critical thinking skills and concept mastery, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.803. The results of the interview show the low enthusiasm of students in learning the structure of the earth due to the lack of a variety of media used and test questions that are not used to being done.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trend of extreme temperatures in Kalimantan over the past few decades. The data used are daily temperatures from meteorological stations in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan, with an observation period of January 1985 to December 2022. The research methodology involves four main stages: data collection, extreme temperature index calculation, trend detection, and correlation analysis with ENSO and IOD. The results showed an increasing trend in extreme temperatures (warming). The increase in mean annual maximum temperature (TXmean) ranged from 0.03°C to 2°C per century, while the mean annual minimum temperature increased from 0.2°C to 0.5°C per century. Monthly maximum value of daily max temperature (TXx) the increasing trend ranged from 0.19°C to 1.7°C, monthly maximum value of daily min temperature (TNx) increased from 0.1°C to 0.5°C. The monthly mean difference between daily max and min temperature (DTR) also shows an increase of 0.5°C to 1.7°C. This trend indicates that daytime (TXmean, TXx) and nighttime (TNmean, TNx) conditions in Kalimantan, especially in West, Central, and South Kalimantan, are getting hotter, with the daytime experiencing a more significant increase in temperature. The correlation between the extreme temperature index and ENSO and IOD is negative and positive, indicating that ENSO and IOD do not fully influence the increase in extreme temperatures. These findings have important implications for disaster mitigation planning and adaptation to climate change in the Kalimantan region.

Abstract

Abstract

In the context of 21st-century education, students are required to master a range of skills, one of which is creative thinking. This study conducted a needs analysis to guide the development of STEM-R-based teaching modules on the topic of renewable energy. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through document analysis (the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ vision and mission, the curriculum, and textbooks) as well as semi-structured interviews with education stakeholders. The results reveal a significant gap: although the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ vision emphasises holistic education and religious character, existing science teaching materials have not explicitly integrated Islamic values. The religious dimension (R) is entirely absent from the topic of renewable energy, even though stakeholders consistently emphasise the urgency of madrasah-specific teaching materials that contextualise science from an Islamic perspective. This study concludes that a STEM-R module on the topic of renewable energy is urgently needed. These findings indicate both the need for and potential direction of module development, which could serve as a basis for the design of future teaching materials to align with the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ educational philosophy.

Abstract

The Time-Independent Schrödinger Equation (TISE) plays a crucial role in quantum mechanics for obtaining the eigenenergies and wave functions of a system. This research numerically solves the TISE for the one-dimensional infinite potential well model by applying the Numerov method combined with the shooting technique. The Numerov method was chosen because it has an order of accuracy of O, making it effective for solving second-order differential equations with a very small truncation error. Numerov is used to solve the second order differential equation with a high degree of accuracy, while the shooting technique is applied to determine the eigenenergies that satisfy the physical boundary conditions of the system. Wave function normalization is performed using the Simpson integral so that the total probability is. Numerical validation is carried out by comparing the computed eigenenergies to the analytical solution  in dimensionless units for  up to . The results show that the numerical energies have a relatif error in the range of order  to , indicating that the Numerov method is capable of producing very accurate and consistent solutions. Based on these findings, the Numerov method can be used effectively in solving quantum mechanics problems that do not have analytical solutions.
