Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the direct and mediating effects of market orientation, dynamic capability, and absorptive capacity on sustainable competitive advantage among Micro, Small, Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs).Research Methodology: Employing a quantitative explanatory approach, this study analyzes data from 280 purposively selected MSMEs using structured questionnaires and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).Results: The findings indicate that market orientation significantly enhances absorptive capacity by improving firms’ ability to acquire, assimilate, and utilize external knowledge. Market orientation and dynamic capability also positively affect sustainable competitive advantage, while absorptive capacity partially mediates these relationships. Conclusions: MSMEs need to strengthen market knowledge, organizational flexibility, and knowledge management capabilities to maintain long-term competitiveness.Limitations: The cross-sectional design and industry-specific context may limit the generalizability of the findings across different sectors and regions.Contributions: This study contributes to the Knowledge-Based View (KBV) and Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) by explaining how knowledge utilization and adaptive capabilities generate sustainable competitive advantage. It also provides practical implications for MSME managers in improving strategic responsiveness and organizational adaptability.

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the key factors that encourage employees to participate in knowledge-sharing activities to improve the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. Research Design & Methods: The research employed a quantitative explanatory design with a cross-sectional survey approach. Primary data were collected from 374 MSME owners in the food and beverage sector. The proposed research model and hypothesised relationships were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings: The results show that tacit and explicit knowledge sharing are influenced by different determinants and lead to different performance outcomes. Trust and employee attitudes strongly promote tacit knowledge sharing, which positively affects marketing performance. Conversely, explicit knowledge sharing is mainly shaped by trust and organisational structure and has a greater impact on financial performance. Overall, the findings illustrate various mechanisms through which knowledge-sharing practices enhance MSME performance. Implications & Recommendations: The study offers useful insights for policymakers in designing policies that support knowledge-sharing initiatives among MSMEs. These policies may help enterprises improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability. In addition, this research contributes to the knowledge management literature by proposing a model specifically suited to the Indonesian MSME context. Contribution & Value Added: By distinguishing between tacit and explicit knowledge sharing, this study extends existing research through an empirical model that demonstrates how different organisational and individual factors shape knowledge-sharing behaviour and generate varied performance outcomes, thereby reinforcing knowledge management theory in small business settings.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the key factors driving the adoption of green innovation and how the adoption relates to the enhancement of sustainable business performance in North Sumatra context. Research Design & Methods: A quantitative design was applied through structural equation modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS software, based on data previously collected from 371 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in food and beverage (F&B) sector. Findings: The results showed that organizational factors, human resources, and technology were significant drivers in implementing green innovation. The adoption of this innovation has been proven to contribute positively to the social and environmental aspects of sustainable performance, although it did not have a significant impact on the economic aspect. Implications & Recommendations: This study provided valuable insights on green innovation, a topic that has received limited scholarly focus in the context of North Sumatra MSMEs. It also offered more insights into previously unanswered questions regarding the determinants of green innovation adoption and their potential role in fostering sustainable performance among MSMEs. Contribution & Value Added: Theoretically, this study expanded the use of Resource-Based View (RBV) by emphasizing the importance of internal resource management directed toward environmentally sound innovation to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Practically, the results provided strategic guidance for MSMEs and policymakers in designing resource-based policies to encourage transformation toward sustainability.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aimed to analyze relationship between leader-member exchange, person-organization fit, and perceived organizational support on employee work engagement. Methodology – The samples comprised 200 civil servants in North Sumatra Province. Data were collected from an online survey using a 5-point Likert scale following a non-probability with a purposive sampling method. Data obtained were analyzed using Smart-PLS through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings – The results showed that job embeddedness, person-organization fit, and perceived organizational support significantly affected employee work engagement, while leader-member exchange did not have a significant effect. Originality – This research contributed significantly to the literature on work engagement of civil servants in North Sumatra Province. Although the literature on work engagement has developed significantly, research that specifically pays attention to the population of civil servants in this area is limited. The results provide a deeper understanding of the factors influencing work engagement, offering insights into the unique local context and specific characteristics that may affect relationship between the variables.

Abstract

Purpose – This research analyzed the relationship model between employee poaching, career development, work-life balance, job satisfaction, and turnover intention in private university lecturers in North Sumatra. Methodology – Data was collected through an online survey using a structured questionnaire sent to lecturers working at various regional private universities. The number of samples explored was 200 lecturers. Following the process, path analysis methods using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used to test the proposed relationship model. Results – The results showed that employee poaching, work-life balance, and job satisfaction had a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. Meanwhile, other research results found that career development had a positive and not significant effect on turnover intention. Originality – The results provided valuable perception for private higher education management in understanding the factors that influenced turnover intention of lecturers and developing effective strategies to retain as well as increase satisfaction and retention of lecturers. The results of this analysis also contributed to human resource management research and literature, specifically in the context of higher education in Indonesia. By paying attention to these factors, higher education institutions can maintain and increase retention of lecturers and improve the general quality of higher education in the North Sumatra region.
