COVID-19 pandemic era has changed human life in the world. In education side, the learning process is forced to be carried out through full online (E-learning) since this pandemic era. There are many studies conducted on studentsâ€™ perceptions of using E-learning to learn the English language while this challenges era. So, the researchers also want to conduct a study about it. The objective of this study was to investigate the studentsâ€™ perceptions on the use of E-learning while COVID-19 pandemic era. Data were collected using a questionnaire that collected background information of participants and a five-point Likert scale to gauge the studentsâ€™ perception use of the E-learning in EFL classroom while pandemic COVID-19 era. Findings from this research indicate that the most of students showed a negative perception toward to use E-learning in the EFL process. It was proved by the results of studentsâ€™ perception. There is only 1 student who strongly agrees with the current e-learning process or said that the E-learning in pandemic COVID-19 era is effective, there are 10 students who said the E-learning is less effective, 1 students say they are moderate (4%), 12 students said E-learning is not effective and 3 student said E-learning is very not effective. There are many factors influenced the studentsâ€™ perception on the use of E-learning media in COVID-19 pandemic era such as, the signal and network connection; limit of quota and expensive; lack of lecturers methods; lack of studentsâ€™ motivation; limitation of time; and lack of interaction.

This study aims to determine verbal linguistic intelligence, to determine the results learning English especially on students' speaking, and to find out the influence of verbal linguistic intelligence on learning outcomes in English students of class X IPA 1 of SMAN 1 Sidrap. This research is quantitative research; this type of research is a pre-experimental design research. The population in this study was all students of class X SMAN 1 Sidrap, amounting to 182 people, while the study sample was the entire population, namely students of class X IPA 1 SMAN 1 Sidrap, amounting to 32 people. The instruments used in this study were interviews, questionnaires, treatment and recording tools. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and simple regression test through the application of SPSS. Based on the results of descriptive statistical analysis, verbal linguistic intelligence obtained an average value of 84.94, the lowest value obtained 0, and the highest value 107 and are at a percentage of 56.25% are in the average category. The results of learning English in this case speaking students obtained an average value of 96, the lowest value of 0, and the highest value of 96 and are in the good category with a percentage of 65.625%. The simple regression test results obtained sig <Î± (0,000 <0.05). This means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means there is a positive influence between verbal linguistic intelligence on learning outcomes of students of class X Science 1 of SMAN 1 Sidrap.

The objectives of this research were to find out the benefits of presentation activities in online speaking classes. Data were collected using a questionnaire that collected a five-point Likert scale to gauge the students’ perception use of presentation activities in online speaking classes. The population of this research was eleventh-grade students of senior high school 4 Sidrap academic year 2021//2022 through random sampling technique and XI IPA 1 was selected as the sample of this research. The research finding showed that the utilization of presentation activities gave some benefits to the students as follows: easy understanding of the material; increased students’ motivation; focus deeper on learning; and Increased collaboration. It could be concluded that the utilization of presentation activities in online speaking class benefited the students in the eleventh grade of SMAN 4 Sidrap.

The Factors Affect the Implementation of English Teaching Strategies before and during Covid- 19 Pandemic Era Geminastiti Sakkir; Amirullah Abduh

This study was conducted to know and identify the challenges faced by teachers in teaching English in the current curriculum change. The research method that will be used is the descriptive qualitative method. The subjects are 102 teachers in SMA/MA/SMK/equivalent in South Sulawesi Province. Data obtained from essay questions were analyzed through qualitative data analysis techniques through coding. The results of the analysis were in the form of a description of the factors that affect the implementation of English teaching strategies before and during the Covid-19 Pandemic era. This description will be useful for learners, teachers, policymakers, and foreign language learning theorists. The results of the study indicate that many factors affect the teacher’s strategies in teaching English in the current curriculum change (before and during the Pandemic Covid-19 era). The factors come from students’ conditions, teachers’ conditions, school conditions, environmental conditions, materials conditions, learning process, administration process, and technology implementation.

This study aims to describe the effect of lecturer eye contact on student learning motivation and the students’ perception on it during their interaction in EFL classroom. It employs a descriptive method in cluster random sampling taking 30 students of English Education class. The data sources of this study were observation, questionnaire, and interview and analyzed descriptively. The observation results that students are more likely to pay attention to the material, more enthusiastic in learning and more respectful to the lecturers having and keeping an eye contact in the teaching and learning process. The result of the questionnaire shows that the lecturer eye contact significantly affects the students’ learning motivation indicated by the mean score of the questionnaire, that is 3.71 falling into high category. These two findings are supported by the data gained from the interview in which most students argued that lecturer eye contact has many positive impacts on their learning. An excessive eye contact of the lecturer to the students, however, can become a hindrance to draw students’ focus on the materials presented. Therefore, the lecturer eye contact to nurture students’ learning motivation should be considerably sufficient and not excessive.

This research aims to investigate translanguaging in an EFL classroom. Several researchers have researched translanguaging (1) Sahib (2019), (2) Saputra (2014), (3) Rabbidge (2019), Yuvayapan (2019), Aoyama (2020), and Rasmin & Nur (2023). Nevertheless, in south Sulawesi, especially Palopo still not enough. Hence, this research tries to see the practice of translanguaging in EFL classrooms. This research focused on exploring the reasons lecturers conduct translanguaging, the way lecturers conduct translanguaging in EFL classrooms, and the lecturers’ and students’ perceptions toward translanguaging. The participants of this research were two English lecturers and fifteen students in the fourth-semester English education department at Cokroaminoto Palopo University. This research applied a qualitative method, the instruments were classroom observation and interview. The result of the observation and interview was transcribed and analyzed based on the research focus. The findings of this research were the reasons lecturers conducted translanguaging the first to make their English teaching in the classroom effective and the second to make the students understand the teaching and learning material well. The way lecturers conduct translanguaging is based on the situation of the students. If the students do not understand what the lecturers explain in English, they will use translanguaging in the classroom to make the teaching and learning process run smoothly. The lecturers express a positive perception toward translanguaging which is reflected through ten positive comments about the use of translanguaging in the EFL classroom. The students also give a positive perception of the five questions that have been asked. The students can feel the benefit of the use of translanguaging in the EFL classroom.

This study aimed to find out the students’ perceptions of Duolingo Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) in learning English vocabulary. This study involved 32 seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Pangkajene during the academic year 2022/2023. Descriptive quantitative was used to carry out the study. This study's data was analyzed using quantitative data from a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 30 closed-ended questions. The study found that the Duolingo application positively impacted students' language learning, particularly in acquiring new vocabulary. Students are becoming more enthusiastic to learn and are practicing and using their language skills in everyday circumstances. Furthermore, after using the Duolingo app, students' vocabulary and ability to recall it rapidly improve, as do structure and pronunciation, making it easier for students to improve their English language acquisition. Students found the app easy, helpful, and enjoyable for their English language learning practice. They prefer it over traditional book-based homework due to its convenience, accessibility in various formats, especially mobile, and gamification. The application’s success is attributed to its varied prompts skill-interleaving lessons gamification aspects and diverse lesson content perceived by the students.

This research focuses on how nonverbal communication is important in the military, particularly among members of the TNI in their neighbourhoods. The researcher used interviews to collect data using open-ended questions. The researcher identified that saluting is more than just a greeting; it shows respect for superiors and tradition, which promotes a disciplined and united military community. The research underlined the adaptation of nonverbal communication, especially hand signals, in operational settings for efficient and silent exchange of information. In summary, nonverbal cues, such as saluting, play a huge role in keeping the military community disciplined and united for successful operations.
