Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia is increasingly confronted with neoliberal governance that emphasizes efficiency, accountability, and competitiveness, potentially marginalizing its spiritual mission. This study aims to examine how neoliberal control mechanisms and knowledge capitalism operate in madrasah governance and how Islamic educational values respond to these pressures. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study design, the research was conducted at MTsS Al-Maziyyah Cilaku, Cianjur Regency. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, documentation, and indirect observation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that accreditation systems, national assessments, performance reporting, and bureaucratic supervision significantly shape institutional management, reflecting neoliberal control and knowledge commodification. The madrasah demonstrates adaptive capacity by internalizing Islamic values such as amanah, ihsan, and ikhlas as ethical foundations of managerial practice. This study concludes that Islamic educational institutions are not passive recipients of neoliberal pressure but active agents capable of negotiating it through “managerial soft resistance.” The study contributes theoretically by enriching Islamic educational management discourse with an empirical model that integrates spirituality, professionalism, and critical engagement with neoliberal education policies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how educational managers’ ontological balance influences the quality of educational services, with a specific focus on the integration of professional responsibilities and spiritual values in madrasah governance. A mixed-methods case study design was employed, combining quantitative surveys of managers, teachers, and students with in-depth interviews and document analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were processed through thematic analysis. The findings show that the level of ontological balance among educational managers is high, although variations appear across spiritual, value-oriented, and professional dimensions. Educational service quality is generally rated good, yet inconsistencies remain in implementation practices and feedback mechanisms. The analysis indicates a significant positive relationship between ontological balance and service quality, particularly in exemplary behavior, policy integrity, and communication practices. The study implies that strengthening managers’ ontological balance through value-based leadership development, structured professional reflection, and continuous capacity-building can meaningfully enhance madrasah service quality.

Abstract

The transformation and increasing demands for quality improvement in Islamic education require a management model that extends beyond structural and administrative orientations to incorporate spiritual and ethical values. Ihsan, as a fundamental Islamic principle, offers a relevant foundation for educational management practices. This study aims to analyze the implementation of ihsan-based management strategies in improving the quality of Islamic education at Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT) Al-Hidayah Pasir Biru, Cibiru District, Bandung City. Employing a qualitative approach with a field research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with institutional managers and key stakeholders. The data were analyzed thematically based on established indicators of Islamic education quality, including teacher professionalism, curriculum and learning processes, facilities and infrastructure, as well as learning evaluation and assessment. The findings reveal that ihsan-based management is systematically implemented and functions as a managerial ethos that promotes continuous and holistic quality improvement. Core values such as responsibility, trustworthiness, sincerity, and fairness underpin institutional management practices and contribute positively to both graduate quality and public trust. The study implies that ihsan-based management can be operationalized as a sustainable, context-sensitive strategy for enhancing the quality of Islamic education and may serve as a conceptual model for similar Islamic educational institutions

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Scientific-Based Learning (SBL) and Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in transforming instructional practices in Islamic education through an educational management perspective, including planning, implementation, evaluation, and teacher professional development. Employing an explanatory mixed-method design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and school leaders, classroom observations, document analysis, and questionnaires administered to the majority of teachers at Sekolah Tunas Unggul. The findings indicate that the integration of SBL and IBL has shifted instructional practices from a rational–practical orientation toward a scientific, student-centered approach emphasizing inquiry, reflection, and knowledge construction. From a management perspective, instructional transformation is reflected in systematic curriculum planning, clearer and measurable learning objectives, improved instructional organization, and the integration of Islamic values within contextual inquiry and project-based learning. Initial outcomes include increased student engagement, enhanced project quality, and improved critical thinking skills. However, the implementation remains constrained by limited teacher methodological literacy, insufficient facilities, time management challenges, and inconsistent data-based assessment practices. The study implies that sustainable scientific-based instructional transformation in Islamic education requires strong institutional leadership, continuous professional development, adequate resource management, and aligned educational policies.
