Abstract

This research analysed the morality of actions taken to implement promises made in Aceh post-2005 MoU Helsinki Peace Agreement. Consideration has been given to the current political conditions in Aceh. Morality is a product of a culture and differs between cultures: Differences between the morality of the Acehnese and that of the Javanese were a major cause of conflict between the Acehnese and the Government of Indonesia. The immorality of the Indonesian Government's actions has been a major cause of rebellion in Aceh in the past. Field research was done by recording participant observations, after which data analysis used the Miles et al. methods. Results showed that after nearly 2 decades of peace, not all the goals in the MoU have been realized. Yes, there were major improvements—there were no more security operations, and some special institutions have been set up: However, many Acehnese haven't felt the full morality of all the peace promises, and morality could be better amongst the elite in both Aceh and Jakarta.

Abstract

The tradition of Khatam al-Qur’an has existed since the era of Prophet Muhammad Saw, in which the Prophet highly recommended his followers to seal (khatam) and read the Qur’an by reciting it from the beginning to the end. This article aims to describe deeply the implementation of the Khatam al-Qu’an in groups and individually, as well as the views of the Khatam al-Qu’an. The instruments used are observation, interview, and documentation. The data were analysed using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings show that the tradition of Khatam al-Qur'an is carried out in groups and individually. The Khatam al-Qur'an in the group is only carried out in the holy month of Ramadhan by the village community, either in the mosque or the meunasah. Reciting the Qur’an (tadarus) at the mosque or meunasah during Ramadhan is carried out by men only. They usually complete sealing the Qur'an 1 or 2 times in a Ramadhan month. The implementation of individual Khatam al-Qur'an is carried out on children or teenagers who have completed reading 30 juz of the al-Qur'an. Khatam al-Qur'an done individually does not involve the village community but only his or her friends or other people at the recitation place. The Khatam al-Qur'an is a form of gratitude and glorification of the Qur'an. In addition, it is an embodiment or a sign of victory for an individual or group in studying the reciting of the Qur'an.

Abstract

This study focuses on contrastive analysis of the characteristics and features of adverbs in English and Indonesian languages. This study explores all similarities and differences of adverbs according to their forms, formations, meanings and positions in both languages thoroughly and accordingly predict what sorts of errors the Indonesian learners of English may encounter. This research uses descriptive method by using library research in which all data are collected from linguistics books from both languages. The findings show that there are similarities and differences almost in all aspects of adverbs in both languages. (1). Both languages have two similar forms, as origin and derivative. But in Indonesian, the original and derivative ones can be classified again into reduplication word. (2). The formations of adverbs in both languages use different affixation systems as inflection and derivation. Indonesian uses various affixes such as prefixes, suffixes and confixes, while English uses only kinds of affixes as prefix and suffix. In forming adverbs from adjectives, English uses a suffix ‘-ly’, and a prefix ‘a-‘, meanwhile most of the Indonesian adverbs have the same form as adjectives or without any addition of affixes. Referring to adverbs derived from verbs, Indonesian ones may be formed through reduplicating the base form of the verbs, while English does not have this system.  The formation of adverbs derived from nouns, English uses some suffixes such as, -ly, -ward(s), -ways, -wise, and a prefix, a-. Meanwhile Indonesian uses only one prefix ‘se-, one suffix –nya’ and by reduplicating the base form of the noun (e.g., hati becoming hati-hati), it is not in English ones. (3). In terms of their meanings, even though both English and Indonesian are alike, a great difference appears that several words called auxiliaries verbs in English and some English verbs such as, like, want, and wish, etc. have different word classes, concept and function in both languages. Those auxiliaries’ words and verbs are basically real adverbs as qualifiers in Indonesian. (4). Referring to adverb positions, generally, Indonesian adverbs are more mobile in sentences, meanwhile, English ones have certain common positions except some words should be placed permanently. These differences of adverbs in English and Indonesian are identified as problems caused by language interference for Indonesian students. Consequently, the results of this extensive research may be useful for teachers, students, curriculum development and materials of teaching.

Abstract

Sungai Tohor area, Meranti Islands, Riau, is a producer of sago in Indonesia and has great potential as a producer of sago flour. Sago flour production also produces waste in the form of sago dregs. Sago utilisation in Meranti Regency is still limited, sago stems (tual) are processed in factories (sago refineries) to produce sago flour with a production volume of 450,000 tonnes/year. This sago processing also produces side waste in the form of sago pulp as much as 75-83%. This provides potential in the utilisation of sago pulp as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source. This research aims to develop biopellets from sago pulp as a biomass fuel that can replace fossil fuels. The analysis results show that sago pulp biopellets have a moisture content of 8.22%, ash content of 30.51%, volatile matter of 22.01%, and calorific value of 4,599 cal/gr, which fulfils the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard. The CO and SOx gas emission measurements from the combustion of biopellets were below the threshold set in the Regulation of the Indonesian Minister of Health No. 1077 Year 2011 and SNI 7626-2013. The thermal efficiency of combustion reached 28.15%, indicating that sago pulp biopellets have great potential as an efficient and environmentally friendly biomass fuel, supporting sustainable energy transition in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract: The implementation of the life cycle rituals of the Kluet community often begins with seeing Hari Bulan so that nothing undesirable happens. This research aims to find out the origin of Hari Bulan, the meaning of Hari Bulan, the determination of Hari Bulan, and the preservation of Hari Bulan. This is qualitative research conducted in North Kluet District, South Aceh. The data source was obtained from local traditional leaders who know well about Hari Bulan. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman interactive data analysis model. The findings show that the origin of Hari Bulan was not clearly revealed when it appeared in Northern Kluet society. Hari Bulan cannot be separated from the origin of the arrival of Islam itself in Aceh, especially in North Kluet. In one month there are good and bad Hari Bulan. Therefore, the Kluet people carry out life cycle rituals on auspicious days according to Hari Bulan. To preserve it, we need mobilizers, observers, and supporters from various levels of society to keep maintaining and developing a strong motivation to participate in the preservation of the tradition of seeing Hari Bulan.
