Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence and determinants of hunger. The study design was a cross-sectional study. The research was conducted in four areas (Bogor Municipality, Garut, Karawang, and Pandeglang Districts) during July-October 2003. A systematic stratified random sampling was applied to select 400 households consisted of 1351 individuals. The data collected include socio economic and demographic data, perception on hunger, and food expenditure. Logistic regression was applied to analyze determinants of hunger. The results showed that qualitatively, prevalence of hunger was 9.8%, and main determinant of hunger was expenditure per capita.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of the Social Safety Net-Health Sector Program (JPS-BK) on growth of under-two year children (baduta). The study was carried out in Kebumen, Purworejo and Sukohatjo of Central Java, and Lombok Timur and Sumbawa of West Nusa Tenggara. This study was designed as cross sectional with Posttest-Only Nonequivalent Group Study Design, This was applied considering the data was collected in a moment just afier JPS-BK program has been starting with two nonequivalent groups (one was target group and another was non target group of JPS-BK). The sample was mothers who had breast-feeding status and had been pregnant between October 1998 and ended in 2000. Total sample was 622 mothers, consisted of 544 mothers of JPS-BK and 118 mothers of Non JPS-BK. Growth of baduta of JPS-BK was not dgiterent from baduta of Non JPS-BK. Nutritional status of baduta (W/A) had positive and significant correlation with birth weight, immunization, and complementary feeding (MP-AS1 JPS-BK). Nutritional status of baduta (H/A) had positive and significant correlation with birth weight, MP-AS1 JPS-BK. immunization and mother's educational level. Nutritional status of baduta (W/H) had positive and significant correlation with birth weight, MP-ASI JPS-BK, immunization, income per capita, and mother's educational level.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of snack intervention on blood glucose level and memory improvement ofelementary school's students, Subjects of this study were 184 students offour (4) elementary schools (grade 6, 5 and 4) at Bogor District, West Java. The study employed a quasi-experimental design and followed experimental procedures to control the subject's food intake and motoric activity during the study period At the day of intervention, both control and intervention's subjects were ordered not to have breakfast at home. Intervention's subjects were provided with snack (buras, at 10.00 AM) which contained 381.7 kcal energy and 5 g protein, but control's subjects were not. Two types ofpsychological test (word andfigure) were applied twice (at 09.00 and 11.00 AM). Then, at the same time, subject's blood was taken to determine blood glucose, haemoglobin, and hematocrite levels. Interviews with subjects and their mothers were carried out to collect socioeconomic data and dietary intake. Result of the study indicated that snack intervention increased significantly (p<O.OI) blood glucose level (20.8 mgld/) approximately 1 hour after snack given. Blood glucose level significantly (p<O.OI) affected the word's and figure's memory performance. The higher the blood glucose level the better the memory performance. Abstract

ABSTRACT. The main objectives of this study were to analyze zinc status, nutrient dietary, quality zinc content, zinc intake, and determinant factor of zinc status. The research was based on previous study on "Effect of Multi-nutrients Fortified Food Supplementation for Pregnant Women and Child Growth and Development" and  some additional data of food  zinc content. Logistic regression was applied for determinants analysis. The results show that zinc serum level was 0.9±04mgll. The prevalence of zinc deficiency was 21.8%. Food intake ofpregnant women was very low (30.8% of suggested serving). Zinc content offood ranged from O.2mg (fried tempeh) to 22.9mg (local snail) per 100g oft he dried foods. Zinc intake was 6.3mglday, similar to 32.8% recommended dietary allowance (RDA). The subjects who have zinc intake lower than it's RDA (l9.3mglday) were 99.2%. Abstract

Penyediaan pangan dalam jumlah yang cukup, pada waktu yang tepat dan terjangkau masih merupakan masalah sebagian besar negara berkembang, termasukIndonesia. Kekurangan pangan bisa berakibat goyahnya stabilitas sosial, ekonomi, dan politik, yang berujung pada jatuhnya rezim pemerintahan. Oleh karena itu, upaya peningkatan produksi pangan terus dilakukan. Di Indonesia, produksi pangan selalu di bawah kebutuhan, sehingga masih tergantung pada impor, terutama beras, jagung, dan kedelai. Masalahnya ialah bahwa selain keterbatasan devisa dan makin tipisnya pasokan dunia, juga ada masalah lain bahwa jagung dan kedelai impor berasal dari negara yang sangat intensif menerapkan teknologi rekayasa genetik. Oleh karena itu, hampir dapat dipastikan bahwa jagung dan kedelai impor adalah produk hasil rekayasa genetik (PRG). Impor, produksi dan peredaran PRG memerlukan kebijakan pengawasan, karena dikhawatirkan mempunyai dampak negatif terhadap kesehatan manusia. PemerintahIndonesiatelah menunjukkan perhatian yang besar terhadap peredaran PRG di Indonesia. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh berbagai kebijakan yang tertuang dalam berbagai Undang-Undang, SK Bersama Lintas Departemen, dan Peraturan Pemerintah. Namun demikian, kinerja implementasi dari Undang-Undang, SKB, dan Peraturan Pemerintah tersebut di lapangan sangat buruk. Lemahnya pengawasan dan penegakan hukum yang tercermin dari tidak adanya sanksi yang tegas bagi pelaku bisnis dan pemangku kebijakan menyebabkan lemahnya implementasi Undang-Undang dan Peraturan Pemerintah. Untuk mengantisipasi dampak buruk dari PRG dalam jangka panjang, maka uji keamanan PRG sudah saatnya dilakukan secara konsekuen, baik untuk pangan maupun untuk pakan, disertai dengan sanksi hukum yang jelas dan tegas.

Abstract

Masalah gizi yang dihadapi remaja Indonesia saat ini adalah masalah gizi ganda, dengan salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah ketidakseimbangan kuantitas dan kualitas gizi konsumsi pangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan Indeks Gizi Seimbang (IGS) untuk menilai kualitas gizi konsumsi pangan remaja Indonesia. Data yang digunakan adalah konsumsi pangan yang diperoleh melalui hasil Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) 2010 menggunakan metode food recall 1x24 jam dengan desain cross sectional survey. Standar yang digunakan untuk validasi IGS adalah nilai Mutu Gizi Pangan (MGP) yang dihitung berdasarkan tingkat kecukupan 15 zat gizi. Total subjek dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 11679 remaja terdiri dari 6040 laki-laki dan 5639 perempuan usia13-15 tahun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai koefisien korelasi antara IGS dan MGP berkisar 0,29 0,60. IGSK-60 adalah IGS yang paling valid (r=0,60), tetapi IGS3-60 adalah IGS yang paling praktis (r=0,55). IGSK-60 dan IGS3-60 menilai 6 kelompok pangan. IGSK-60 merupakan sistem penilaian secara kontinyu, sementara IGS3- 60 merupakan sistem penilaian secara kategori. Kesimpulan, IGS3-60 adalah IGS yang paling praktis dan valid, cocok digunakan untuk memonitor kualitas gizi konsumsi pangan remaja.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a specific physiological period, which is the nutritional requirements increase more than thoseof normal condition. About 50-70% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting, it was affects to the lack ofnutrient intake for mothers and infants. The sustainability of mother’s condition can cause an imbalance of body fluidwhich has impact on the mother’s hydration status. The aims of this study were to analyze the relationship between characteristics,socio-economic, nutritional status, nutritional intake and water with hydration status. This study was a crosssectional study, conducted on the area of primary of public health at Kebon Jeruk Regency, West Jakarta. The subjectwere pregnant women who in the second trimester, examined pregnancy in the study area amounted to 107 subjects.Independent t-test and chi-square test were used to analyzed the data. Subjects were divided into two groups based onhydration status from urin osmolality concentration; normal and hypohydrated. The average of urine osmolality in thehypohydration group and normal, were 838.78±172.35 mOsm/Kg and 268.05±116.64 mOsm/Kg, respectively. Subject’scharacteristics (age, gestational age, body weight, height, nutritional status before pregnancy, upper arm circumference,waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure) did not differ between two groups (p≥0.05). There were no relationshipbetween edu- cation of mothers and fathers, employment status of mothers and fathers, household expenditure,and mother’s know-ledge (p≥0.05). There were differences of energy, carbohydrate and zinc intake between two groups(p<0.05), but didn’t found differences intake of (protein, fat, calcium, iron, folic acid) and water between two groups(p≥0.05). However, the mother should more attention to fulfil their nutrients and water intakes to support the foetusgrowth.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to analyze body weight and body fat in obese adult men after administration of green coffee, green tea, and cinnamon (GGC) powder combination drink. This study applied a pre-post experimental design. Fourteen obese male subjects which are chosen by purposive sampling were given 200 mL/day GGC drink for 8 weeks. Body weight, body fat, and food intake data were collected before and after intervention. The instrument used in this study include microtoise, meterline, food recall 2x24 hours, and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The result showed that GGC drink significantly decrease body weight (-2.45 kg; p-value=0.001), BMI (-0.89 kg/m2; p-value=0.001), waist circumference (-2.97 cm; p-value=0.001), body fat percentage (-1.75%; p-value=0.004), and visceral fat (-0.92; p-value=0.001). Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Test showed that administering 200 mL/day of GGC drink improve nutritional status in obese adult men. In conclusion, administrating 200 mL/day of GGC drink reduce body weight and body fat of adult men.Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berat badan dan lemak tubuh pada laki-laki dewasa yang mengalami kegemukan setelah pemberian minuman herbal kombinasi bubuk kopi dan teh hijau serta kayu manis (minuman KTM). Penelitian epidemiologi klinik ini menggunakan desain pre-post experimental. Sebanyak empat belas orang pria dewasa yang dipilih secara purposive diberi 200 mL/hari minuman KTM selama 8 minggu. Data berat badan, lemak tubuh dan asupan makanan dikumpulkan sebelum, selama, dan sesudah intervensi. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi microtoise, meterline, food recall 2x24 jam, dan bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Berdasarkan hasil Uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan bahwa pemberian minuman KTM selama 8 minggu menurunkan berat badan secara signifikan (-2,45 kg; p-value = 0,001), IMT (-0,89 kg/m2; p-value = 0,001), lingkar pinggang (-2,97 cm; p-value = 0,001), persen lemak tubuh (-1,75%; p-value = 0,004), dan lemak sentral (-0,92; p-value = 0,001). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah minuman KTM dapat menurunkan berat badan dan lemah tubuh pada laki-laki dewasa.

Abstract

Prevalence of malnutritions in childern still high in Indonesia. Bad food consumption is one of several causes of malnutritions. Therefore, food consumption of childern need to be analyzed The objective of this study were to analyze food consumption of childrens 2-12 years old and compare it with Balanced Nutrition Guidelines in Indonesia. This study design was cross-sectional. Subjects were 38890 childrens 2-12 years old of basic health survey of Ministry of Health. Food consumption data were collected by 24 hour recall method. Food consumption patterns presented in the participation and quantity, which devided in to 1) carbohydrate foods), 2) vegetables, 3)fruits, 4) animal foods (included milks), and 5) vegetable proteins. The participation of consumption of carbohydrate foods, vegetables, fruits, total animal foods, milks, and vegetable proteins were 99.9%, 57.6%, 14.0%, 80.0%, 20.4%, and 36.4% respectively. The quantity of consumption of carbohydrate foods, vegetables, fruits, total animal foods, milks, and vegetable proteins were 353.1 – 534.3 gram (3.5 – 5.5 portions), 44.4-72.6 gram (0.44 – 0.72 portions), 88-90 gram (2 portions), 28-244 ml (0.2-2 portions), and 17.6 – 32.6 gram (0.35 – 0.65 portions) recpectively. Subjects had high consumption of carbohydrate foods, but had low consumption of vegetables, fruits, total animal foods, milks, and vegetable proteins. In conclusion, food consumptions of subjects were not accordance with Balanced Nutrition Guidelines.

Abstract

Pemberian Air Susu Ibu (ASI) diketahui memberikan dampak positif pada kesehatan ibu dan anak sehingga dapat menunjang pembangunan dalam hal menciptakan sumber daya manusia yang sehat dan berkualitas tinggi. Namun, cakupan pemberian ASI di Indonesia belum sesuai target. Dukungan sosial yang diperoleh ibu dalam upayanya untuk menyusui adalah salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan pemberian ASI. Seiring kemajuan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, dukungan sosial tidak hanya didapat dari lingkungan sekitar, tetapi bisa diperoleh online melalui media sosial, seperti Facebook. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan Facebook dan dukungan sosial online dengan perilaku pemberian ASI. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode purposive sampling, yaitu pada anggota group Facebook Asosiasi Ibu Menyusui Indonesia. Metode analisis data menggunakan path analysis atau Analisis Jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh tidak langsung positif dari penggunaan Facebook terhadap perilaku pemberian ASI yang dimediasi oleh variabel dukungan sosial online, sedangkan karakteristik ibu dan dukungan lingkungan tidak berpengaruh pada penggunaan Facebook maupun dukungan sosial online. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Facebook bagi ibu menyusui yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kepatuhan perilaku pemberian ASI adalah jika Facebook digunakan untuk memperoleh dukungan sosial online.
