Abstract

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the perceived opportunities and challenges of developing an artificial intelligence (AI) application for preserving Acehnese proverbs (Hadih Maja), a critical yet endangered component of cultural heritage. Conducted as a multi-stakeholder feasibility study, it engages academics (linguists, anthropologists, AI/data scientists) and cultural custodians (tokoh adat) in North Aceh and Lhokseumawe, Indonesia. Through reflexive thematic analysis of in-depth interviews, the research reveals a dualistic landscape. Stakeholders recognize AI’s transformative potential as a bridge for intergenerational engagement, enabling interactive, mobile-based learning for youth. However, this promise is counterbalanced by formidable socio-technical hurdles. Key challenges include the fundamental "low-resource" paradox—where data scarcity severely limits natural language processing capabilities—and profound ethical risks of cultural decontextualization, trivialization, and the erosion of community sovereignty over knowledge. The findings underscore that the primary impediments are not merely technical but deeply socio-technical, necessitating an approach that makes community governance and cultural integrity foundational. The study concludes that a successful initiative must be reconceptualized from an "AI development project" to a "community-led cultural revitalization project enabled by AI," prioritizing participatory co-design, ethical data governance guided by the CARE principles, and the creation of a culturally-grounded multimodal corpus before any substantial technical development. This research offers a critical framework for ethically and effectively leveraging AI in endangered language contexts globally.

Abstract

Alleviating poverty and creating prosperity is the ultimate goal for every country, especially in developing countries. The Indonesian Government initiates various poverty alleviation efforts, one of which is the transmigration program. As a strategic plan to reduce poverty, it is necessary to pay special attention to the results of migration activities. This study aims to determine the effect of migration on poverty rates in Indonesia. This study uses pooled cross-sectional data analysis for 34 Indonesian provinces in 2015 and 2019 using the Ordinary Least Squares model. Based on this research, it was found that permanent in-migration did not affect poverty, but there was a positive and significant effect of permanent out-migration and rising out-migration on poverty. Meanwhile, in-migration has a negative and significant effect on poverty. Another finding from this study is that wages and education have a negative and significant effect on poverty, while the place of origin does not affect poverty.  Keywords: Indonesia, in-migration, out-migration, poverty JEL: A11, A1

Abstract

One of the important factors influencing the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is teacher commitment. Teachers are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment in understanding the curriculum philosophy, applying student-centered learning, and consistently implementing differentiated instruction and Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Projects. However, variations in teacher commitment indicate the need to examine factors that may strengthen or weaken this commitment. Two factors considered crucial in this context are organizational culture and teacher competence. This study aimed to analyze the influence of organizational culture and teacher competence on teacher commitment in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The research employed a quantitative approach with a causal research design. Data were collected from 179 elementary school teachers participating in Sekolah Penggerak in North Aceh Regency using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on teacher commitment, whereas teacher competence does not show a significant influence. These results indicate that a supportive organizational culture plays a more decisive role in fostering teacher commitment than individual competence alone in the context of curriculum reform.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of biological competence and career readiness of students in the Biology Education Study Program at Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) in the Academic Year 2024/2025. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The sample consisted of students from the Biology Education Study Program at UIR. A closed-ended questionnaire was designed to measure indicators of biological competence, including conceptual understanding, laboratory skills, critical thinking ability, and the application of biology in real-life contexts. Meanwhile, career readiness was evaluated based on students’ perceptions of their self-potential, career goals, and readiness to enter professional fields such as teaching, research, and biology-based entrepreneurship (bioedupreneur). In-depth interviews were conducted to follow up on the questionnaire results, while academic documentation was used to obtain supporting data related to students’ academic status and learning outcomes. Data were analyzed using univariate statistical analysis. The results show that students possess good biological competence, particularly in conceptual understanding and basic laboratory skills. In addition, students’ career readiness is categorized as high, as indicated by their interest and preparedness to pursue careers as teachers, research assistants, or bioedupreneurs. In conclusion, the implemented curriculum has been able to equip students with knowledge and skills relevant to the demands of the professional world and support their career readiness.   Keywords: Bioedupreneur, Biological Competence, Career Readiness

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of practicality of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL)–based electronic student worksheet (e-LKPD) on biotechnology material for tenth-grade senior high school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the Plomp model, with a focus on the assessment phase, particularly the practicality evaluation. The research was conducted in two schools, namely SMA Negeri 1 Tambang and SMA Negeri 2 Kampar Kiri Tengah, in Riau Province, Indonesia. Data were collected from 49 students, two biology teachers, and two observers using practicality questionnaires, learning implementation observation sheets, interview guidelines, and documentation. The data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results indicate that the practicality level of the e-LKPD, as assessed by students, reached an average score of 83%, categorized as very practical, while teachers’ assessments reached 86%, also categorized as very practical. The implementation of learning using the e-LKPD achieved 100% (very good category) based on student responses and 95% (very good category) based on teacher responses. Observers reported an average implementation score of 94%, categorized as very good. These findings suggest that the PjBL-based e-LKPD is practical for use in biotechnology learning at the senior high school level. Furthermore, it supports the development of 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, through project-based learning activities.
