Abstract

Elementary school students need to be taught mathematics to equip logical, analytical, systematic, critical, creative, and cooperative thinking skills. Result of the UNESCO 2016 survey found that the creative thinking ability of students in elementary education level in Indonesia is low. This study has two purposes. First, to analyze the effectiveness of the inquiry training model on the mathematical learning material counting integer operations. Second, to analyze the creative thinking ability of 5th grade students based on learning style. Mixed methods with concurrent triangulation strategy was carried out in 5B grade Islamic Elementary School Al Madina Semarang with the number of students are 29. The next step is selected the subject of research is 6 students by purposive sampling. The data analysis technique used is the assisted appeal SPSS 16.00. Data validity technique through qualitative method of verification and source triangulation. The results show that model inquiry training is effective at learning mathematics class 5B. This model is effective by fulfilling three conditions. First, the percentage of mastery in the model inquiry training class reached 86%. Second, the average ability of mathematical thinking in the class of inquiry training is higher than the average in mind mapping class. The mean of inquiry training is 81.61 and mind mapping is 76.35. Third, the implementation of inquiry training activities including good category. Students with kinesthetic learning styles included in the category of students are creative and creative enough. Students with visual learning styles included in the category of students are less creative and not creative. Students with auditory learning styles included in the category of creative and highly creative students. This research is useful to enrich the sense of insight of the application of inquiry training model and know the classification of students' mathematical creative thinking ability based on the learning style.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce teaching material for human skeleton material in 5th grade class Elementary School Mahad Islam. The research used research and development models (R&D) with ten stages, i.e. (1) potential and problems, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revisions, (6) product trials, (7) product revisions, (8) usage trials, (9) final products, (10) dissemination. Comic are declared valid by obtaining scores from media experts, namely 4.0 with good categories and obtaining scores from material experts, namely 3.91 including good categories. Comic are declared effective by obtaining a score of learning interest that is 86% including in the high category. N-Gain measurements show a result of 6.7 including medium category. Learning outcomes of students classical completeness has a percentage of 90.9% already above 80% requirement. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the comic material with the material of human skeleton in science subjects is valid and effective so that it is suitable to be used as teaching material. In this study, comic teaching materials has the benefit that are creative, innovative and fun for students.

Abstract

The study was based on students' high motivation for gadgets but low in learning. The renewal of learning based on active, innovative, creative, efficient and fun learning (PAIKEM) that is the Flipped Classroom model and additional variables (motivation) is required to improve the process of critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness and influence of the Flipped Classroom Model towards the ability to think critically and student science learning outcomes of students by increasing their motivation. The method used in this study was an experiment with the Control Group Post-test – Only Design. The sample comprised of 121 students from 4 elementary schools in Pati. The data collection consisted of performance tests to measure critical thinking skills and learning outcomes while questionnaires to measure student’s learning motivation. The data were analyzed using the average difference test and single line regression. The analysis result of the average difference test showed that Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 and result of single line regression Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 (sig < 0.05). The results in this study showed that Model Flipped Classroom learning is effective in improving the ability of critical thinking, science learning outcomes and student motivation, there is positive influence between learning motivation and critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes science.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of PjBL model by using Science KIT to improve students' confidence and problem-solving skills. This research is done by using a quasi-experimental design with a type of non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects were 50 fifth grade students from Elementary School 02 Krompeng and Elementary School 01 Kalirejo. Data on students’ self-confidence and problem-solving skills assessment are collected through observation and tests. Using N-Gain analysis and t-test. Research results show that there are different results in terms of self-confidence attitudes between groups of students who follow PjBL model with Science KIT and the other groups of students who follow PjBL learning model, obtained a value (tvalue = 37.12 > ttable  = 1.68), there are differences in learning outcomes as well, in terms of problem-solving skills between groups of students who follow PjBL learning model with Science KIT with groups of students who follow PjBL learning model, it is proven post-test result obtained in experimental class is 74.96 while in the control class is 60.72 (tvalue = 19.55 > ttable = 1.71). The results of this research are beneficial for teachers as an overview of condition self-confidence and problem-solving skills that can be taken into consideration in planning the lesson.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) learning model using Number Pocket media on social studies subjects in grade IV Public Elementary School 01 Adipala, Cilacap. The method in this study was an experimental method with a sample of grade IV A as an experimental class and grade IV B as a control class. The sampling technique was applied in this study is research design was used pre-test – post-test control group design. The data collection techniques to determine the increased in the interest using the student learning interest is questionnaires, whereas, to measure the achievement of students using evaluation questions (pre-test – post-test). Based on the results of the hypothesis test, interest data and student achievement showed that 2.805 > 2.06, therefore, it can be said that there are differences in the interest and learning achievement between the control class and the experimental class. Based on the results of the student learning interest data showed that the significance value (0.000 < 0.05). Meanwhile, the results of the student achievement test hypothesis showed that the significance value (0.000 < 0.05). Based on these data, it can be concluded that the application of the TSTS model assisted with Number Pocket media is more effective on students' interest and learning achievement in social studies subjects in grade IV.

Abstract

The global challenge needs people who can solve the problem in everything. Students can't solve the problem well. It caused by the lesson only for memorizing, so student’s critical thinking skill is not yet maximum. This study aims to identify the effect of project-based learning integrated STEM toward critical thinking skill of students. The method of this study was quasi-experimental with pre-test – post-test control group design. Sampling technique was used nonprobability sampling. Data collection technique used description test critical thinking skill. Data analysis used N-gain score test and t-test. The result of t-test student’s critical thinking skill showed sig (2-tailed) 0.002 it means there was a different average in critical thinking skill between experiment class and control class. The average of experiment class was higher than the control class. It showed that the implementation of project-based learning lesson integrated STEM affected towards student’s critical thinking skill.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is one of the abilities of students assessed by PISA studies in terms of formulating, applying, and interpreting mathematical problems in various contexts. This ability is believed to increase if students are given structured training to solve problems close to their daily lives. Structured training can be done with a project or expository approach and both have their own strengths in eliciting student self-efficacy. The study aimed to analyse students' mathematical literacy ability reviewed from their self-efficacy in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model both in project and expository approach. The research was a mixed methods study with sequential explanatory design. There were 60 students, selected by simple random sampling, equally distributed in the experimental class with project based learning and control class with expository based learning. Data of students’ mathematical literacy were collected by using tests and were triangulated with observational dan document data analysis. The results showed that the average mathematical literacy ability of the experimental class is better than that of the control class. The mathematical literacy were influenced by students’ self-efficacy variables of 53.5%. The effect of self-efficacy on mathematical literacy of the way students solve problems was discussed.
