Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by inflammation and cartilage damage. Legetan leaves (Acmella oleracea) have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential that may help relieve OA symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the potential of legetan leaves as a therapeutic modality for OA in a rat model. Legetan leaf extract was formulated into an oral preparation and given to rats induced by OA with monosodium iodate. The positive control group received standard OA medications. Parameters measured include pain scores, joint inflammation, and cartilage damage. Legetan leaf extract significantly reduced pain scores and joint inflammation in rats with OA. Legetan leaf extract also shows a protective effect against cartilage damage. In conclusion, Legetan leaves have potential as a therapeutic modality for OA.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze and evaluate the noise generated by aircraft traffic at Kualanamu airport. Data collection was carried out by conducting a survey directly in the field by asking airport officials about the flight frequency at Kualanamu airport and measuring ground handling noise with a sound level meter. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed using Excel software. From the results of data processing, it is known what variables most affect ground handling noise at Kualanamu airport. Noise measurements were taken by PT. Angkasa Pura II (Persero) in an open area at Kualanamu airport, the noise that occurs is below the specified quality standard value, which is <80 dB based on the Minister of Transportation Decree No. 17 of 2005 (Sultan Syarif Kasim International Airport, while for Kualanamu International Airport there has not been a Ministry of Transportation Decree. Because both airports are international class and are located in the coastal area of Sumatra Island, it can be assumed that they have the same noise quality standards). Furthermore, noise measurements were taken by PT. Angkasa Pura II (Persero) in the domestic and international waiting room area that the noise that occurs is above the specified quality standard value, namely (45-55) dB Zone B, according to the regulation of the minister of health 718 of 1987.

Abstract

Flying fish Cypselurus poecilopterus is a small pelagic fish resource that plays an important ecological and economic role. However, information regarding the structure of its stock in East Indonesian waters is still limited. This study aims to identify stock structure based on morphometric, meristic approaches, and associated with environmental factors. Fish samples were taken during one fishing season (June-September) in 2015 and 2021 in the waters of West Papua and East Seram where the Lydakker line passes, using the method of observation and purposive sampling, then the data were analyzed descriptively and t-test. The results of observations on 23 morphometric characters and 5 meristic features showed a significant difference, so it is estimated that flying fish stocks are composed of 2 sub-populations. Differences in morphometric and meristic parameters are affected by different environmental conditions in the two waters. This information is expected to be useful for the management and sustainable use of flying fish resources.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of self-esteem on impulse buying behavior among students at Balikpapan University. Shopping has become an activity that involves psychological needs, lifestyle, and pleasure. Social, economic, and cultural elements influence consumer behavior, including in the context of impulsive shopping. This research highlights the connection between self-esteem and impulsive shopping behavior among university students at Balikpapan University by finding a significant negative connection between the two variables. Individuals with low self-esteem tend to be more prone to impulsive shopping behavior as compensation to improve their self-esteem. The results also show that individuals with high self-esteem tend to keep their shopping behavior under control. In the face of social and cultural pressures influencing consumer behavior, a comprehensive and collaborative approach is crucial to building effective marketing strategies and consumer interventions. With a deeper understanding of the psychological elements that influence consumer behavior, companies can develop more adaptive and relevant strategies to meet the needs and drive consumer preferences in this modern era.

Abstract

Flying fish (Exocoetidae) is a pelagic fishery commodity that holds economic value among the people of eastern Indonesia. Flying fish are advantageous as they are abundant in Indonesian sea waters, making them an affordable source of omega-3, which is beneficial for human health. However, the high demand for flying fish has resulted in overfishing, which poses a risk of reducing their natural population. Proper management of this commodity is necessary to minimize these risks. Effective management requires adequate information, including genetic diversity data. This study aims to determine the genetic diversity of flying fish in Southeast Sulawesi, specifically in the Banda Sea and Bone Bay populations. Tissue samples were collected from flying fish in the two populations during the study in March 2022. The results show that the genetic diversity values of flying fish in Bone Bay and the Banda Sea were 0.984 and 1.00, respectively, while the nucleotide diversity values were 0.021 and 0.018. High genetic diversity values and nucleotide diversity values were found between the two populations, with values of 0.990 and 0.020, respectively. Based on phylogenetic analysis, the two populations in Southeast Sulawesi are genetically similar.
